Far Cry 1. Meant to play this back around when it came out, but the CDs I borrowed from my friend were so scratched up that I couldn't install the game, and many years passed.

Out of the big 3 shooters of 2004 (Far Cry, Doom 3, Half-Life 2) this one is by far the worst. Doom 3 still plays very well and the claustrophobic interior locations hold up; Half-Life 2 while mostly mediocre as a shooter at least still looks good due in most part to its texture work and great visual direction; but I don't think anything in FC1 stood the test of time. The novelty of the tropical setting with its vista after vista wear off quickly and you realize the open areas are a poor replacement for proper level design, and big, bland open areas are one of the few things that modern games can actually do better. Enemies are boring to look at and boring to fight. The trigen weren't as aggravating as some people made them out to be, in fact they were mostly disappointing as they didn't force me to change my play-style in any significant way. They're also introduced so early in the game that they don't even function as any kind of plot twist or surprise (compared to something like the Flood from Halo). Combat encounters in general range from trivial to maddeningly frustrating, and some parts in particular felt like they had no play-testing at all (the part where you need to man the gun on a jeep while Val drives). Getting through the most difficult segments usually came down to exploiting the AI by placing myself in an area they couldn't easily navigate to, or shooting them from so far away that they couldn't properly return fire, so it never felt gratifying. Lame game.

Enclave 3.3 for Fallout Tactics
Bunch of concepts, ideas and assets, 10 p.rough missions, new vehicles like Verbirds and Abrams tank and fat cliffhanger with no chance for Chapter 2 and further.
Verbirds and helicopters are still ground vehicles that get stuck on every stone with weird controls. Way to kill the promising start.
Still - first mission (prison escape) is a good bait, after that it's just a let down.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
After reaching the ending of Wings of Liberty, I can understand why I have been given rainbows in my previous post. While the whole campaign introduces every unit and the player basically just checks off to find out another unit. The conflict almost never reaches the full potential as in original apart from the last mission, and overall it feels more like a skirmishes merged together to deliver the plot. Tychus was a cool character, and seeing Jim Raynor as a main hero was a wise decision. Although they changed Mengsk and from a cold politician he turned into evil stupid villain. Oh well, time for some break and try the Zerg campaign.

Is the game any fun?

Define "fun".

No, this game is alright. It has a lot of heart but it's held back by some annoying flaws. The best things about it are definitely the art style and atmosphere in general. I'm often reminded of Alice and movies like Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, Les Triplettes de Belleville and such. Graphics and sound design are good as well and the game runs great. It could have used more ingame graphic settings but this being Unreal Engine you can easily edit an .ini to get rid of chromatic aberration etc, if you're bothered by those.

Exploration "puzzles" are ok but easy and pretty repetitive and the platforming itself is sometimes frustrating due to the controls and camera. Stealthing around the grotesque creatures is good stuff but sadly this is not a pure stealth game and detection is unavoidable at certain points. Some of the ensuing chase sequences look fantastic and had me laughing out loud (those fat cannibals ), others were highly frustrating because I knew just what to do but failed some jump over and over due to the game's poor controls. The crappy checkpoint save system didn't help here either.

It's a short game, I notice you get an achievement for beating the main game's 5 episodes in under 1 hour without buying any proverbial farms. The complete edition adds 3 extra chapters. Me, I take my time and I'll probably get at least 7-8 hours out of it. There are collectibles of sorts as well if you care about those.

Worth getting the complete edition during a sale if you like the art style and have a tolerance for frustration caused by some poor game design.

There is also an animated series in the works.

Oh, and unlike many modern AAAAA titles this game has working mirrors:

This one is even breakable and hides a passage.

And it doesn't seem they fixed bugs since release date, damn, not even from Early Access beta.
