It sounds like the game is more bosses-centric than Soulsborne. Don't know if I'd like that. I get too stressed with bosses and need the stroll of levels to relax.

On the other hand, combat sounds more "technical" in a way, with distinct techniques prone for different situations that the player must assess correctly. Makes sense?
It's not so much boss centric as it is that getting from idol to idol is really easy and then when you do get to a boss everything comes to a screeching halt.

No From. You didn't create a very tough boss that needs TWO rare consumables - TWO OF EACH - to beat so after 3 failed attempts you're out of luck and you'll NEVER beat this boss. I refuse to believe it.

which one?

Headless?

I need the anti-fear thingy and also the confetti, i.e. transient curse. I've only found 3 confetti and 3 anti-fear pops. 3 failed attempts, all spent, I'm fucked.

Guise your treasure carps are alright? There are two at a certain castle location, I kill them, get the XP but not the scales. And they respawn. They aren't supposed to do that are they?

I've killed some carps that didn't give scales in the ancient dungeons. Some are probably just environmental hazards.

Has anyone beaten the guy in the Ashihana dojo? How?

Also where to go, forgotten ruins or serpent shrine?

Second try. His twirly combo is easy-ish to block (gotta press block RIGHT after the short flash) and it does a fuckton of poise damage.

It's bird feathers or some shit. Lets you basically teleport anywhere when an enemy attacks you. You can grab it in the memory where the purple samurai is at (you have to do the consecutive wall jump climb to reach him, right after the river).

By the way are you playing on PS4 or PC? I'm actually wondering if it's one of those "60fps breaks the physics engine making jumps shorter" scenarios that plagued Dark Souls 1.

PS4 Pro also has 60 fps (well, kinda, closer to 40-50).

Maybe 15 attempts at the Seven Spear dude. Protip - you have to damage his health first and the best thing to do that is throw firecrackers. Then be aggressive, stay on his dick. Also have at least 3 attack pawah.

I just beat the guy who cuts off your arm. Oh my God can this get any harder? 3 phases, tests you through and through on dashes, jumps, deflections, everything and with some bullshit sprinkled on top. Died like 30 times, went and killed 4 or 5 other bosses to get prayer beads, like they were nothing, came back, 5 tries or so later he was down. This guy TRAINS you. God I love this game.

For everyone raving about Lady Butterfly ... blablabla ... ring the Demon Bell and then try to fight her.

The boss is not twice as hard, it's more than that. It's fucking insane.

I've spent 3 hours trying to kill her and I lost it at one hit. Then I reversed the Demon Bell effects and I've beaten her on 1st try without taking damage (*almost).

That's the difference between normal and Demon Bell difficulties. I cannot believe it.

Oh damn I haven't run into that yet.. Getting my ass handed to me by the

guardian ape

I blew all my firecrackers in the first phase, was so happy to see "shinobi execution!!!" then the motherfucker picks up its head and runs at me with a sword :negative:

Very cheap putting the violet ninja in that tight cave.. I'm not saying I can beat him, but the camera is making the fight even harder

Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
10 hours in, not entirely sold on the stealth mechanics. I mean it IS fun to instagib fools but ultimately it feels like it cheapens the whole game.

The fat boys are case in point - what a waste of a potentially good mob. I just sprint away if I'm discovered, come back later and try to instagib them. Which feels incredibly lame, constantly running away like a bitch. The big boys are doable 1v1 but they're SO much pain in the dick. How about scrapping stealth and making some mobs a bit more manageable? Eh.

This is like playing a merchant in AoD and getting upset at the lack of combat options.

Those are just regular carps.

There are only 4 confetti in the game, you prolly mean something else. It's called Divine Confetti.

And the anti-fear thing is called Pacifier. Don't remember where I found it.

anti-fear thing is called "Pacifying Agent" you get it in the abandoned dungeon

also pretty sure you can buy more of those items from vendors once you've found one in game...

After a number of hours in, I've found it to have improved a lot. Like lots of skill tree based games, you start off in a castrated unfun state, once you get a few upgrades (the ariel stuff, the grappling hook attack, and the shuiken stab) in the combat improves markedly.
A lot of it is still pretty jank though, especially after jus playiing DMC5. That Flaming Bull boss was just shit. Yopu have to get the bull into a corner, control the camer with your chin and dodge round it cutting at its ass and occasionally spamming firecracker. Just terrible. Souls bosses were fun because you had the mutiple appoaches that an RPG offers. As we get closer to core action the more it appears lacking. However the Horse Rider boss was pretty good so idk.

So how good would you people say the game is right now?

It's a good game buried under some seriously obtuse design decisions that will absolutely infuriate you constantly in the beginning hours and often later on.

eg: the game tells you about its rock-paper-scissors blocking system: block a stab, jump a swing, and dodge a grab. The tutorial and tip system will beat this into your head.
Then the game immediately introduces a miniboss with a near-instagib long-range lunging grab that can only be countered by jumping; WTF From?

If you can get over the heavy trial-and-error-based method of figuring out how to do things then you'll find a good game that will give you the same sort of enjoyment as Dark Souls. However, I do struggle to recommend it even though I am still playing the game because when you get stuck, you really get stuck and it's not a hell of a lot of fun. Compare that to another ultra-hard game like God Hand and even there when the game was kicking your ass you always felt like you were making progress because you would get that little bit further each time.

With Sekiro it's all: You picked rock when you should have picked laser-scissors, fuck you. Go spend 5 minutes stealth killing guys for another chance to get instagibbed in 5 seconds for trying something new.

The 83% rating on steam is not entirely unfair, I'd probably give it 85% although it feels wrong considering how much love they put into it.
