Dragonborn, yeah. But Dawnguard? Compared to Shivering Isles or Tribunal or Bloodmoon that might as well have been nothing at all.

Dawnguard does not add some nice new landmass to the map but it is still quite large. Two huge off-the-map areas, a pretty long questline, the best companion character in the game, lots of little new things, a dwarven sidequest, etc. I'm not sure how it measures up necessarily (Tribunal was pretty dinky compared to Bloodmoon as well) but I got my money's worth out of it.

"Hines remains adamant that solo experiences still have plenty of life left.

"Single-player games aren't going anywhere. Bethesda Softworks has been making single-player games for all of our 25+ years in the industry. We're still here, we're still making them, and people are still buying them. Dishonored was single-player and people really loved it, and it sold well. Skyrim was a complete success. A single-player RPG. There's practically a cottage industry dedicated to talking about how that isn't possible or why that won't succeed. Console fans won't get a game like that. Has to have multiplayer of some kind. PC gaming is dead. It's gotta be a shooter. RPGs are a niche. Etc." "

They might be planning to give Redguard away soon, like they did Arena and Daggerfall.
If they actually do some work to get the 3D acceleration working out of the box that'd be pretty sweet. Redguard is a bitch to run nowadays and the game that gave me the most trouble to get running in DOSBox properly.

I had more issues with Battlespire. And when I finally got it to run it was unplayable due to very low fps.

Hah!
Dishonored "sold well" (~2.5milion)
Tomb Raider 2013, Dead Space 3 "sold poorly" (~2milion, ~1.2milion so far, they are much more recent)

Bethesda itself might be doing mediocre or shitty games but they at least do good business:thumbsup:

If you don't know the site (that would surprise me) be warned it is not accurate as it doesn't count digital sales. Thus PC sales and minor games are suffering there. But console retail for AAA should be ok. Everything else is rather estimated based on known numbers.

Uh, I'm more worried about the calibur of said single player games than whether they exist or not. If it's a choice between having a dog that does nothing but spray diarrhea all over the house or no dog at all...

And yes Pete, RPGs are niche. Action games with vikings don't count.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-04-18-skyrim-legendary-edition-to-contain-all-dlc-report
Our friends at Eurogamer Poland have unearthed the Skyrim: Legendary Edition, which is said to contain the core game along with its Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn DLC packs.
This cumulative edition of Bethesda's open-world fantasy blockbuster was spotted at Polish retailer Ultima, where it was given a 7th June tentative release date. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions were priced at 169.90 zł (roughly £35 / $54), while the PC version was listed at 139.90 zł (about £29 / $44).
We're following up with Bethesda to try to confirm the Skyrim: Legendary Edition's existence, date, and price, but a collector's edition with all of the DLC would make sense given that Bethesda recently confirmed that it wouldn't be releasing any more content for its 17-month old hit. We'll update as we find out more.

Potatoes found out that Skyrim is apparently done with DLC. Pretty surprising as Fallout 3 had 5 big DLCs, New Vegas 4, but this only having 2 is quite a shock when Bethesda seems to find new creative ways to separate fools from their money.

Hope its not to redirect the team doign dlcs into the mmorpgs. That elderscroll online game is a guaranteed trainwreck, no need to be a seer to knows it . I see it failing as badly as swtor . It could also they send everyone into fallout 4, and there's also another rumor of an arena remake. Why an arena remake , and not a daggerfall one...

The two for Skyrim are much larger, they said fewer, larger ones from the start.

Yea, Beth is the one-eyed king. The only other 2 publishers who are financially ok are Ubi and Activision-Blizz. Activision is extremely milking any brand and squeezing players' wallets (beside Diablo 3 the Blizz part is quite ok, but they don't make original stuff, but high-polished and well serviced). Ubi is a horrible, horrible piratehunter who fucks all players in their asses with their shitty services. But at least, considering the state of AAA market, they do very original games (Assasin's Creed has no competitor whatsoever, Far Cry is still quite unique, upcoming Watch Dogs is interesting experiment for example). Bethesda is better in all aspects - unique games, no big shitting on users' heads, no extreme milking (horse armor was still more of a joke). Is there any bad thing they do beside not too long support and extreme press-control? don't think so.

hmmm, how about the liars and shit makers (except for Total War) from Sega? Last numbers I see are from 2011.

Yeah, it's not as if they are renown for releasing bug-ridden games that ultimately rely on user-made patches to reach a half-way bug-free level.
Or that the quality and sophistication of their games have been in a steady decline (with Skyrim being somewhat of a recovery in some parts, at least).
Or that they, too, release horrible console ports on pc.
Nope, Beth is pretty flaw-less I guess...

Edit: And let's not forget pre-release Tod-speak. :M

ah, true. forgot that. their UIs suck and they don't bother modifying it for PC although PC sales of their games are quite high proportionally to consoles.

I include bugginess in the short support cycle. It is not a big problem to release buggy game. Bad is to leave it unfixed. They very often fix only the biggest problems (F3 had like 2 fixing patches in 2 months? many things are still broken there). But still in comparison to our beloved pieces (Arcanum, Fallout etc.) their games since Morrowind (incl.) are quite ok bug-wise.

Tod is a good salesman and hype maker. (Though a gimmick lover.) You can't deny that. business-wise, this is good. He should stop designing games though imo.

Overall I agree with the "one-eyed king" rating.
There are not that many companies doing what they are doing and among the bigger publishers, there are worse.
Anyway, I think they could and should do much better. With Skyrim they did show improvements but are still far from being a really good company, imho.
Their big plus is clearly modding support. It's definitely the most important reason why I still buy the TES games.
My problem with Tod-speak is not that he's hyping shit, but that he's using too many outright lies.
Sure, if you got some ambitions, probably not all intended features will make it into the final game. But the stuff he's telling in interviews...
Man, I'd sure like to smoke what he had.

NEW FEATURES
  • Legendary difficulty setting
  • Legendary Skills – Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again. This effectively removes the overall level cap.
