Why don't they just make a new FM instead of adding new content to a remake of a 30 year old game?

Probably because Square Enix neither develops or publishes these remakes. It seems like Forever Entertainment licenses out the Front Mission rights from Square Enix to do these remakes.

It would be cool though if Square Enix made a new Front Mission.

Wow that's pretty :negative:

I thought they were making them themselves and I've also heard that they cancelled their FM mobile game so maybe they were planning to do something decent with the franchise but I guess not.

Considering how well these japanese 2.5D RPGs have been doing, it's mind boggling why Square hasn't released a new Front mission tactical rpg.

Too busy remaking stuff. Dragon Quest I+II and III are not far away from dropping on Switch, PCs and probably other platforms for example.

Tried the Mercenary update for the FM1 remake. Very mediocre: You get a bunch of scenarios with premade units and pilots, with some new things, but you can't save mid-mission, not even suspend save (while you can do so in the main game), which SUCKS, even if the missions are short. You play as a group of mercs in 6 new scenarios which are fun to play (or at least I played the first one) but the game's price doesn't justify these extra missions. On the other hand, this is literally the only new content the franchise has gotten in decades. Shame the FM1 game is so clumsy compared to the other sequels.

New Front Mission won't make hundreds millions of dollars to keep the stakeholders happy
