From what I read the engine has a... limitation. You can't merge servers.

Don't know how much that's true.

Hero engine can merge.. it would just mean peeps would be without gametime for a significant amount of time (weeks apparently according to DHater 'experts' and TORWARS 'analysts')

Mostly i don't like anyone to fail, it's kinda sad. But in this case i have a smile of little satisfaction on my smug face. Corporate assholes need to finally learn, that there can only be one. All you can do in mmo market is to find some profitable niche. If that's not what you want - GTFO and do something else.
I mean it's not like Blizzard even will let someone kick them out. By the time it gets somewhat dangerous, they'll just release WoW II or something. With all the cash they got, i would not be surprised if they already have something in the making.
