Due to story focus and free to play, SWTOR might be the only MMO I actually bother playing more than a day.

Just as I suspected. "F2P" kicking in because of that makes perfect sense, and is a good way to cover some ass for a bit to the investors.

I hate to act like a know it all, but I totally called it almost a year to the date in my Youtube video, "Top Five reasons why SW:TOR Won't Kill WoW"

A lot of things have changed in the game since then (it was still in beta when I made the video) but the basic reasons are still the same.
Sadly I think anyone with half a brian would be able to call it, but hey, at least your diction is good. Reasoning's solid enough too.

Nice amount of dislikes there, bro.

I skimmed through the video.

5) TOR ignores established SW lore.
- No-one gives a shit about SW lore. If the game is good they'd play it regardless.

4) TOR doesn't use KOTOR combat systems.
- I personally don't think the D&D-inspired (combat) mechanics were the sole reason KOTOR was "so fun". They wouldn't work very well in an MMORPG environment.
That said, I do think TOR could have a lot better combat.

3) Bioware make buggy shit that's not on par with expectation of today's MMORPG players.
- True but it's not hard to predict that an MMORPG will be buggy and shit at launch.

2) Dialog trees and VA makes it harder to match WoW (amount of) content.
- True. OTOH many players thought the VA and dialog were the only redeeming features of the game.

1) TOR copies WoW quest design.
- True. But you make WoW sound like it has good quests. In comparison with TOR, they're better, but both suck with very few exceptions (longer questchains etc.)

Here are my top reasons why TOR failed:

Shit end-game. Very little to do besides instanced PvX (battlegrounds & dungeons).
Unbalanced factions on many servers.
Super-linear dungeons/caves etc. When dying is a way to save time, it's badly designed.
No developer-player interaction. Barely any updates on what to expect later in the game's life cycle.

Yeah and one more item: There's an MMO that does this just as well or better already.

I can definitely agree on the unbalanced factions.
The server I was on, I stopped playing the warzones/arenas because of this.

Sith were dominating everything, it was no fun at all.
And because all the Republic players left, Sith soon started complaining that there are no players to play against...

I agree with everything and I think that the biggest problem with game, which contributed to those problems you mentioned, was voice acting. I have no doubt that large chunk of resources spend on this game was for voice acting alone, resources that could have been spent on adding more quests, making interesting worlds, less railroaded space combat, actual endgame content and other things was squandered on something no one cares about. Voice acting was their main selling point, but ironically thats what killed the game, as mentioned every new addition to the game needs to have voice acting, which means longer production time and cost then something their competition can create.

The thing is that your average mmo player dont care about voice acting or else they would not play WoW, they wont to solve quests, look for items of great power and explore the world, and Bioware/EA simply focused on something different things.

The whole idea behind SW:TOR was to attract players other than the standard MMO crowd not caring about story and its presentation, by putting such a focus on dialogues, etc. Plus the normal MMO people, of course.

That experiment has obviously failed. As a story driven-game, real story-driven games beat it easily and due to BioWares ressources being spent on that aspect, other aspects had to suffer.
Oh, well... It was still fun to play for 2 months and I guess I'll return once it is free.

By this point I think I should just post this gif on each page of a topic detailing how miserably TOR has failed.
