Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
I don't like The Witcher 3 that much and the Polish fan boys annoy me. But it's still the best game I've played last year, even if I don't consider it particularly amazing. It still deserves a 5 from me for the good optimization, the great graphics, acceptable combat, great, alive world, interesting and varied characters, exploration and above average writing, and the surprising amount of choices and consequences.

I think rating it badly is intellectual dishonesty. It's like rating PS:T badly because the combat sucks, Dark Souls badly because it's not turn based or Grimrock 2 badly because you happen to prefer story RPGs.

It's even more impressive because, believe it or not, despite the triple A budget, The Witcher 3 is still technically an indie game.

Bottom line, we got a lot of good games in the past 4 years which is a lot more than we can say of the previous era of decline.

Witcher 3 winning despite its flaws just goes to show that we've had good, but not classic games. It has big flaws, but so do all the other quality titles released over that time period.

Can someone make a matchmaking algorithm for dating based on this data, so we can find our true, albeit neckbearded love?

That's really gay.

Age of Decadence had 245 5/5 votes, but 57 came from that group. And no, these users didn't downvote AoD. Quite the opposite, actually.

He doesn't call himself the lurker king for no reason, y'know.

I would never do that. It's a matter of principle. I can't vouch for Goral though. :shittydog:

Is it really a surprise that I liked PoE?

I thought you had become a genuine monocled grognard. I was wrong.

Is just goes to show that we've had a few classic games, but people ignored that because they are retarded and prefer triple-A garbage

Fixed.

Great job both on the poll and the interpretation of the results, was suprised to see some of the them.

Go plagiarize other people's art someplace else, creep.

After looking at the full data, it's clear that people tried to manipulate it.

217 users (27.13%) have fewer than 10 posts, and 142 have 0.
70 users (8.75%) registered in January 2017.
The Witcher 3 had 265 5/5 votes, but 87 of them (32.83%) came from users with <10 posts.
Age of Decadence had 245 5/5 votes, but 57 came from that group. And no, these users didn't downvote AoD. Quite the opposite, actually: only 3 out of 217 gave it a 2/5 and 11 gave it a 3/5.
Tyranny had 45 5/5 votes, but 22 came from that group.
Divinity: Original Sin had 5/5 votes, with 69 from that group.

The top 10 results wouldn't have been too different with some form of vetting, but the rest changes a lot. Here's what the top 30 would look like with a minimum of 10 posts and registered since December 2015:
  1. The Witcher 3 - 3,80
  2. Age of Decadence - 3,79
  3. Underrail - 3,78 (+1)
  4. Divinity: Original Sin - 3,77 (-1)
  5. Shadowrun: Dragonfall - 3,73 (+1)
  6. Dark Souls - 3,69 (-1)
  7. NEO Scavenger - 3,45 (+1)
  8. Dragon's Dogma - 3,42 (-1)
  9. FTL - 3,40 (+1)
  10. Legend of Grimrock II - 3,39 (-1)
  11. Fallout 1.5: Resurrection - 3,36
  12. Shadowrun: Hong Kong - 3,35 (+1)
  13. Dark Souls II - 3,31 (+3)
  14. Dark Souls III - 3,299 (-2)
  15. Dungeon Rats - 3,298 (+2)
  16. Heroine's Quest - 3,29 (+3)
  17. Invisible, Inc. - 3,282 (+5)
  18. Expeditions: Conquistador - 3,276 (-3)
  19. Xenonauts - 3,274 (-1)
  20. Valkyria Chronicles - 3,267 (-6)
  21. Blackguards - 3,263 (+7)
  22. Tales of Maj'Eyal - 3,260 (-1)
  23. Might and Magic X: Legacy - 3,24 (+6)
  24. Legend of Grimrock - 3,233 (-4)
  25. Stardew Valley - 3,266 (+2)
  26. Shadowrun: Returns - 3,22
  27. Lords of Xulima - 3,21 (-2)
  28. Wasteland 2 - 3,19 (-4)
  29. Grim Dawn - 3,18 (+1)
  30. Pillars of Eternity - 3,17 (-7)

Biggest swings compared to the original top 30:

Blackguards (+7)
Pillars of Eternity (-7)
Valkyria Chronicles (-6)
Might and Magic X: Legacy (+6)

Interesting how PoE is the game which benefits the most from inactive/new user votes. :M

Twitcher3 still on top, doesn't make any difference. Let us acknowledge the popamoleness that is Codex2017.

It's actually worse because it sends Serpents in the Staglands down the list.

Wow didn't think TW3 will be first. I predicted top 3 but mine was AoD,Under,TW3.

Thoughts:

DS3 vindicated. DS2 faggots screeching. Yup.

Pillars hit harder ceiling than others. I predicted top 20 but not top 25-30. Also 75% people played it. That is a lot.
Looks like over time hype died down and people realized what most of people were talking about. Main story has problems and balanced gameplay design isn't that fun compared to BG.

Divinity:OS proves on other hand that despite autistic people here saying dex is all about storyfags gameplay reigns supreme. What DOS shows is that dex doesn't tolerate mediocrity. It is better to be great in one thing and fail in other than being mediacore in all. Which isn't surprising considering TW3 is #1 game criticized for game-play but praised for writing.

AoD and Underrail no surprise.

Can you guys stop confusing "RPG game made in japan" with "JRPG"? It really makes my head spin. It's fucking retarded to pretend Wizardry clones are the same as Final Fantasy clones. I have no bones to pick with the rest of the post, just thought I'd point that out.
Fixed.
It's an RPG made in Japan, hence jRPG is appropriate I would say. Just because it doesn't have chocobos it doesn't mean it's not a jRPG. inb4 "what is an (j)RPG".

I suppose I'm showing my age, then. When internet was young, JRPG referred exclusively to games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, etc because that was most of the output coming out of japan. Referring to niche dungeon crawlers as JRPGs really triggers my autism, but I guess I'll just have to learn to let it go.

When you were young, there was no fucking such term as JRPG, unless you were young during the Xbox 360 generation.

Where expecting basics is considered perfectionism
If Obsidian isn't the most important gaming studio in the world, then who else is?
I have choice of three:
Iron Tower Studio
Whalenought Studios
ZA/UM

Like, I care about them approximately fifty times more than Obsidians.

What did Hannah and Joe ever do to become more important than Obsidian? Serpent in the Staglands was a weak game. You can clearly see it in the results as well.

A partial list of shame of the individuals who gave “Pillars of Eternity” a 4:

Zed
Felipepepe
Jedi Exile

Deuce Traveler
Mastermind
Lady Error
Morality Games
Violet Shadow
Cosmo
Tigranes

The following disgusting individuals gave “Pillars of Eternity” a 5:

Crooked Bee
I have a huge nick
Roguey
Irenaeus
Tom’s Baker Arse

Elhoim gave Shadowrun a 4, and Darth Roxor a 5. What the fuck is wrong with you?

DISGUSTING!

I stand by my four rating. PoE was a very good game during the first half. It just completely falls off the rails the second half. Just because I might have felt bitter about the overall experience doesn't mean that it didn't have enough solid moments to justify giving it a better rating than a mediocre 3.

Obsidian is like the Byzantine Empire in 1400, the last remnants of a once noble and all-powerful RPG empire, that now just runs on the fumes of past glories and memory, just waiting to be finally nailed into its coffin by the savage barbaric hordes of decline.

The ones he listed are the new kids on the block with new aspirations, new hopes, new dreams, a destiny in the forward position rather than the backward/staid.

Easy...remove console ports from the list. That gets rid of Dark Souls, but also removes Dragon's Dogma and Valkyria Chronicles. Not sure if it removes Witcher 3 or not.
