If If Viconia isn't a companion in Baldur's Gate 3, people are going to die. By my hand.

Also, wait till Larian are done with BG3 and get the rights to go back and remake BG1 & 2 for current year.

-I find preparing myself in advance for this sort of thing is usually best.
Larian can do the games justice by fixing several encounters. Instead of being ambushed by that mage at the Friendly Arm Inn entrance they will let us meet with him at the inn's top and maybe learn something about him. Why was he ambushing us? Did he have a tough childhood? Can he be convinced to abandon his cut-throat ways by letting us seduce him? These are the type of things I expect Larian to fix in their inevitable Baldur's Gate 1 remake.

Tarnesh: Hold still, I have something for you.

1: Let me just bend over.
2: Let me help you help me.
3: The monks at the keep used to cast the enlarge and slow spell all the time, so don't be shy with the spells mister!.

Maybe you really can change the world in 20 years. After all, what kind of world do we live in where an entire industry is devoid of high-end writing talent in comparison to what we had 20 years ago...

A note and response to myself, but I'm having a blast by deliberately crippling my character, a paladin with 16 in all of his stats except Wis and Cha (which are at 18 currently, after exporting him to BG2). Sure, playing someone with 19/19/19 in Str/Dex/Con would be easier, but stats are mind-numbingly easy to raise in this game, anyway, if not with potions, then with DUHM :M

BG3 will be a critical and financial success, after BG3 Wizards of the coast will beg me to remake BG1 & 2, sadly I can't polish these old boomer turds....

This is probably stupid and less effective than I think, but has anyone here played as necromancer quickly dual-classed to cleric for that juicy -2 enemy save against necromancy spells (we're talking about finger of death, harm, or holy smite here) and the ability to use wands and scrolls? Or hell, invoker -> cleric with sunfires, sunrays, or globes of blades?

It works nicely for a game like the first BG with the level cap. For BGII and ToB it's just tedious, but can be a bit fun if you meta a lot.

You could, but... do you really want to dual into an inferior class? Not really worth it.

If I can make a mod suggestion, one I would recommend is this. You're supposed to be able to dual into a specialist mage in AD&D, and Bioware actually implemented it correctly in the BG1 engine (only to later screw it up in BG2).

Sure, why not? For all intents and purposes, necro 2 -> cleric is a pure cleric with an option to use magic wandsl and bonuses to certain spells thrown in. And I believe cleric is the only class I never used as a Charname through the saga, so there's that.

I’m a fighter/berserker and I want to duel class into a cleric in BG2, is the best time after level 9 and how does it work? I lose my proficiencies but I can reallocate them into skills that I already have?

When you dual class, you lose all your class abilities until you gain more levels in your new class. So the time to switch depends on what class abilities you want to have in the original class, traded off against how much "downtime" you will have in not having access to your original class abilities and what level the XP cap will allow you to get in your new class.

Often fighters want to go after level 7 or 13 due to multiple attacks. Kensais sometimes want level 9 due to kit feature intervals. I'm not sure if berserker has anything that makes level 9 better than level 7 though other than that's the last level that you get full fighter d10 + con hp, and for the extra 2 points of THAC0.

Generally speaking you should not put any proficiency points into weapons you already have proficiency in because they don't add up, they'll be replaced by your original pips (if greater) when you regain your class features. Otherwise, you're limited to the choices normally available to your new class.

Thanks I’ll duel class at level 9 (technically 8, but would be 9th). Another question is, how are the scimitars in this game. I’m not sure whether to go for clubs or scimitars with Jaheira, or can I do both? Going with Mace’s with Anomen, flails with my main and Keldorn has the swords covered.

You could do both on Jaheira, since she's a multiclass fighter, she can only go up to 2 pips in any weapon, so she'll have more than she needs. There are good scimitars, but not any great clubs IIRC. If you'd like to look up things you might find, this is a decent resource. https://mikesrpgcenter.com/bgate2/weapons.html
There are also a number of wikis that you could look up rules if you wanted to plan out, for example, how many proficiency points you'll get or something along those lines.
I think you'll find that most "standard" RPG weapons are fairly well covered with at least one or two good options.

There is at least one good club, IIRC. Burnblood or something like that. It has acid damage. Nothing like the warhammers, flails or longswords level of crazy, but pretty good.

Soo, I already ran into Bodhi and declined her offer, I still haven’t gone to Gaylen Bale for the 15K discount gold offer yet.

Can I keep him waiting and do questing or do I have to go to him immediately with potential consequences?

One of the fun tweaks to BG2 is to reintroduce the BG1 weapon proficiency classes, which are much more broad than BG2’s (think Blunt in BG1 vs clubs/hammers in BG2).

As these games are all about itemization impacting how your approach encounters and your power curve, it gives you more flexibility to experience the depth of the loot pool. It’s a really fun way to play IMO.

Dual at 7 or thereabout is not about power, it's about ease of use and quality of life.

Generally you dual at 7 so you can play with new class almost immediately, with barely time in lower level, aka less time to be a munchkin.

If you dual at 9, you are going to spend an awful long time to up the new class to 9 to regain abilities. An awful long time to be a cripple, in fact.

That kind of cripple can survive at easy difficulty. But top diff will buttfuck you in no time flat~ You can survive, but the experiences are nothing worth enjoying.

An even challenge is much more fun than going right from cripple to demi-god.
Kensai/Mage is the most boring character I've ever played.

Well, I’m already playing a bit. Would I need to start over for the tweak to work properly?

You can keep him waiting. There is no real time limit in this game.

Can you get rid of Jaheria’a curse? After multiple rests it still doesn’t go away and I have the hair lock.
