The Callisto Protocol - new survival horror from Dead Space creator

A horse of course

Carpenter is a fucking ancient lich who hasn't directed a good film since 1996.
*since 2005.
He did a pretty good short film 'Cigarette burns' as a part of Masters of Horror anthology.
Was that the one with the evil dumb anti-abortion fundamentalist Christians and the noble liberal doctor.

Carpenter is a fucking ancient lich who hasn't directed a good film since 1996. They would have to roll that boomer up on set with a wheelchair and both Kurt Russell and Keith David looking like elderly home patients would make the continuation be jarring as fuck. Like that Indiana Jones flick they're making. The script would ruin the ending cuz the paranoia there was why it was so good. So when Keith David sprouts tentacles and shit when they get rescued that is just gonna be boring.

Actually, JC hasn't directed a good film since In the Mouth of Madness, and that was 1994.

He has no talent left whatsoever, but I don't give a shit, a sequel to The Thing would be great.

Fuck Kurt Russell and Keith David at this point, no way they could explain a 40-year time lapse in their appearance.

Cast Wyatt Russell as MacReady and dye his hair brown, and throw in some random black dude to play Childs [John David Washington (Denzel's son) or Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman 2021), it doesn't matter to me].

MacReady turns into a one man army and goes Ellen Ripley on whatever is surviving of the thing + Childs.

He keeps himself from freezing to death by chugging a whole cache of newly discovered J&B scotch and injecting himself with pure adrenaline snatched from random medkits displaced by the explosion.

Ehhhh, I think I'm close to finishing this game, my thoughts are as follows:
-Melee combat that is barebones and tedious.
-Weak ranged weapons cause guns are for combo thingies to do extra damage.
-Dead space's Spiritual successor yet it's a linear corridor beat them up with sluggish controls. I feel like they should have copied nu-tomb raider style.
-Generic monster design that feels like they ripoff Singularity.
-8 types of mutants that are more or less the same.
-Wasted money on actors for some b-movie tier plot that feels like doom the movie with the Rock.
-The "ultra" gore death animations are kinda shit, I literally laugh cause they felt goofy as fuck (like how the zombie will chokehold you with one hand and punch you with the other ).
-Stealth is literally crouch, press x for epic stab animation.

Disappointing, also why is New game+ and higher difficulty not in the game? Do they expect people in 2023 to replay this game?

Well this game turned out disastrous. And something even worse happened, Morgoth was right.
Fuck no. Everyone was crying big baby tears over stuttering on their poorfag rigs and then The Glen makes that shit run on their souped up Casio pocket calculators. When they can't whine no more over that shit what do people do? Instead of APOLOGIZING like they should they fucking start whining over the next thing.
It ran like shit even on powerful computers. I have a 3080Ti and was getting constant stuttering and framerate drops. If you claim a 3080Ti is a low end or poorfag card, that would make you trolling or retarded, because that's a card that will run basically any game that currently exists without issues, unless the developers / engine do something retarded like doing just-in-time shader & pipeline setup.

Even with the stuttering issues mostly fixed (they're still present, just alleviated) we're left with the problem of that they've tried to make a horror game but made it melee focused. Which, as I've pointed out earlier in the thread well before the game came out, is a bad design decision. My opinion on this was that it takes away from the horror aspect (because there is no longer, as in Dead Space, the idea that any of these enemies can physically overpower you), but as it turns out, not only does it do that, but it's also poorly implemented and not fun.
It runs butter smooth now for alot of people...

Monsters die easy even on max difficulty from range weapons and the GRP, you just have to be not a retard to figure out how to kill the mobs without melee, lol. its shit easy

Yeah, I don't get what is "survival" horror any more. It can't be about not dying because then most games would be of the "survival" subgenre.
Ah yes, the Roguey definition.

Glen Schofield's on record as saying that Carpenter and "The Thing" had been a big influence on his. I'd like to see that reflected in a game outside a few gory FX -- but I'm not holding my breath.

Now that you've mentioned it, the gameplay indeed bears some resamblance.

You understand why that's a really bad thing for a supposed horror game, right? Also, the problem with melee is not being forced into it. The problem is that melee is viable. What fear Dead Space did have largely owed itself to the danger of a Necromorph getting up close to you, grappling you, and chewing your head off. It taps into a primal, instinctive fear of predatory creatures like bears, tigers, etc that can maul the shit out of you. In Callisto Protocol you just alternate A and D and watch as your character effortlessly evades the zombie and then beats the piss out of it. In Dead Space if you got into melee at all, then if you didn't hit stasis quickly you were definitely going to lose some health and the goal was to get out of melee quickly. Because melee was dangerous and it was something you wanted to avoid. In TCP, melee isn't a threat. And that's the problem.

Has there ever been a spiritual sequel that was better than the original?

You should've expected this.

Ok, bros. Technical issues is one thing, but this...

What are they thinking? it's a single-player game. It's their fault for releasing a broken exploitable mess.

This is probably for streaming purposes. No silly memeing on video guys, this is a serious and mature experience!

Ok, so for those who finished the game or saw the ending or the whole game on Youtube, how exactly is Jacob to blame for the Europa disaster?

I think it was just because
Jacob was knowingly shipping the parasite samples to Black Iron who had it escape in a failed experiment in Europa?

But did he know? And did he know that it was a biological thing that had the possibility of causing an outbreak? Like at all? Did he know any of this stuff? It's similar to Ulysses in FONV how he blames the courier for the Divide. It feels like they wanted to justify the reason for that woman being such a cunt to Jacob the whole way.

I'd have to rewatch the cutscene but from what I vaguely remember
Jacob at least knew that the job was fishy but did it anyways, the cover was that he was delivering medical supplies but there's a scene of him opening one of the cases and there's a test tube he looks at with a sample of the NotLasPlagas that clearly isn't medical supplies. His copilot Max warns against doing the delivery as well. I don't think it's explicitly stated that he knew how dangerous it really was though.

I got banned and ranted at by a twitch streamer for saying I already thought this game would be underwhelming after a particular real time gameplay demo I saw. Walking slowly down hallways fighting one dumb monster at a time with unremarkable weapons with no interesting effects or functions. Meanwhile you can sell Dead Space on the Line Gun alone.*

The early sizzle real previews looked good, but it seems none of that made it into the final(?)

*More accurately I just said it looked banalshitboring. Same difference. Codexian language triggers no matter where it goes.

Yeah that's the extent of it. Fishy != guilty. It could have been anything not just a bioweapon. Weird how the game tries to pin that on you.

Sounds like the MC is considered guilty for something he couldn't control due the unwritten law of white male = guilty of "insert cause here" that permeates everything nowadays. For extra hilarity that psycho bitch caused the MC's ship to crash, but of course she gets rescued in the end.

Even as bad as the broad from DS2 was (and even more so in the 3rd game, with the inane love triangle that didn't really exist as she still loved Isaac), it seems this game takes it to a new level. The girl in DS2 was also actually cute IIRC.

An odd thing I noticed is that even though you can eventually get a badass armor, for some reason the MC doesn't get a sci-fi helmet unlike Dead Space's own one.

It's a bit of a lousy M. Night Shamalan tier twist but it's set up at the beginning of the game that your supposed to think the woman (Dani Nakimura) is the terrorist that causes the Europa incident. The copium response is the only person that blames you is her, but it's more emotionally driven rather than logical since she's just been falsely accused and imprisoned for a terror attack that killed her little sister. Really the worst part is this is all revealed in a reconstruction of Dani's memory less than an hour before the game ends and I guess Jacob couldn't remember any of these events because the spinal Core implant causes temporary amnesia?

Probably would've been better without it but it sets up their sequel and DLC hitch IF this game even gets a sequel.
