Can we stop insulting the real doctors by calling these dorks "doctors"?
They earned their doctor titles in their schools , whether you like it or not.
Doctors, by definition, should have some knowledge and be able to teach. The only thing those fuck ups know and can teach is how to ruin business.
They were medical doctors. Bioware started out as a medical software company.
What stopped them, I doubt they were doing worse than they are doing now.
I doubt that running a small medical company is better than leading a game studio with several branches and multi-million dollar franchises.

Whatever one's thoughts about news like this, or Bioware in general, something that never ceases to amaze me is the sheer amount of spite some people can muster over it.

Nothing against a little bit of humor, cynicism or sarcasm, but sometimes it's getting ridiculous.
Seems they do excel at emotional engagement after all.

I was under the impression that the doctors had already transfered from Bioware to EA, working at marketing if i recall correctly.

I'm fairly sure that them not running anything medicine-related is better for people.

But BiowarEA administers the medicine of emotional engagement and equality! How could it be any better?

How can you even draw that conclusion?

People that have doctor titles aren't automatically gods or even good at anything other than their own field. They may suck at running a business, they may suck at making games, they may suck at socialising and they may suck at everything else but thats not really a good indicator on how they would perform there.

That's what the internet is for! It's not like I spend an hour every day staring at a Bioware poster and thinking about how much I despise them. I keep that restricted to Sundays only.

I also was under the impression that the Good Doctors had already bailed out, taking a nice cushy post in EA along with cash and shares.

http://www.1up.com/news/acquires-bioware-pandemic

Oh, the money. Yes, the money. There's lots of money involved here. EA will be picking up BioWare and Pandemic from VG Holding Corp. by handing over "up to" $620 million in cash and an additional $155 million in equity to "certain employees" of VG Holding Corp. EA has also agreed to lend up to $35 million as the acquisition is closed out.

It's been a long ride, but all good things must come to an end. I am proud to have been a champion of women's rights, and of homosexual activism, however our fans have let us down for the last time by not purchasing enough Asari Sex dolls this Christmas season. Some right wing religious wacko groups have also brought us under fire unfairly for our advocate of consensual relations between men, women, and boys and girls of any age and for the involvement of many of our employees in poly-aged sex activism. When Chri Priestly was arrested for pedophilia dor consensual sex with several teenage male fans of the series we were shock and outraged. Yes, shocked and outraged that 20 years into the millenium this kind of draconian control of who can touch who continues on. Well, I promised you we would fight til the bitter end, and we have.

You are all laughing now, but in 50 years or so it's likely to be true. I bet people 100 years ago never even considered a marriege between two men possible. As long as gay phedofiles keep running our countries the decline continues :decline:

Yet in 'great warrior land Sparta', sex with women was viewed as only suitable for reproduction, whereas only man-on-man could have the capacity for monocle-intellect and manly-romance needed for true love.

Most of the time, they'd be shagging the boy that they'd raised from near-birth. It was encouraged for military tactical reasons. The Spartan used long spears (2 hands, sometimes buckler but no shield), and would use a tactical formation where they would hold an ultra-strict line, working on a tactic of alternating movements across 2 halves. Each group would thrust then block across to deflect anything directed at the guy next to them. The two groups would be staggered so that while one group was thrusting with their spears, the guy next to them would be sweeping and protecting them from any attack (hence the long spears and ultra-strict line formation - meant that they could just sweep across and down without having to worry about the multiple angles that a closer-range sword combat would have opened up). They encouraged the paedo-sex because the guy who raised (read: 'shagged') the kid would be deliberately put next to them in battle. The belief was that if you had been raised by a guy, and spent your whole life with him as your one love, you sure as fuck weren't going to let some Persian pike get through your block and kill him.

Regardless, the Spartans were pretty much the uncontested dominant land force of their time. The Athenians completely wiped the floor with them, but that's because they were so much better culturally and scientifically that their ships and siege equipment were lighter, faster and could transport more men. Think of the Mediterranean and Turkey, and then think about the Athenians having utterly uncontested naval dominance. The Spartans could march to attack Athens and the Athenians could send their ships, kill everyone in Sparta, leave the Spartans without a supply trail and be back in Athens before the Spartans were halfway there.

Of course, eventually the Athenians pissed everyone off so much that all the other city states said that they'd agree to pay taxes in return for a vote in the Athenian senate. Athens said 'fuck you, you'll pay us taxes and you won't get no fucking vote in our senate anyway' (or words to that effect). Then every country in the (then) known civilised world attacked Athens at once and occupied them long enough for Sparta to actually land an army in Athens without Athenian ships assraping them on the way.

Anyway, moral of the story: no point in citing historical expectations as evidence for your personal worldview. There's always an earlier example where people held the opposite view, and did well with it, holding it as central to their explanation of their own success (ala Sparta believing women were too shit for anything but recreation, true love only being between men, and homosexuality improving military bravery).

Your arguments suck bigtime.

I know your gay arse wants to see the mighty spartans as gaylords, but they weren't. Gayish activities were not considered immoral, but something completly natural like having a shit. To their defence I can say that pretty much the entire world (including arabs, persians...) thought the same way, but than there were a lot of other things considered back than as completly normal and would be considered now as an absolute evil shit like having slaves. Spartans had lots of slaves, they never did any actual work as it was done by the slaves (they were realy evil bastards, unlike they are portraid now).

Thuthermore your entire argument sucks because spartans NEVER had any gay marriagies.

News seems very untrustworthy. It should be a thread in GRPGD, not a new item.

But anyway, even if (likely) untrue, it doesn't matter. Bioware is not for long anyway. I doubt DA3 will be made. A new ME trilogy might be announced, but it will likely not get made. All resources will be put into Old Republic. The fate of that game is what will determine Bioware's future. If Old Republic succeeds, Bioware will survive and even thrive as a MMORPG company. If Old Republic fails, then Bioware will be put into the same graveyard with all the rest of EAs aquisitions, probably getting a grave right between Origin and Westwood, Bless their Souls.

Anyhow, while EA is shit, true, keep in mind they did not do hostile takeovers. They bought the company's with the owners (very willing) permission, and paid the owners huge sums of money making them quite happy. So if you wanna blame someone for the decline of the old company's, blame the owners first and foremost for selling out.

And Azrael the Cat, dude, you seem like an educated guy. Read what you wrote. Do you honestly, seriously, believe that ridiculous bullshit about Spartans having gay sex just so they could fight better? Really? Do you imagine the Spartans were having gay buttsecks in the turtle formation while battle was raging around them?

Spartans being gay is as ridiculous a myth as Alexander the Great being a fag. This could very likely be the work of homosexuals to try to portray faggism in a positive light by tampering with history. Alexander did not marry not because he was a fag, but because he was too busy trying to fucking conquer the world!! Some ppl have more on their minds than their dicks y'know. They have a destiny to fulfill and all, etc etc.

No change with Ray Muzyka. "

As announced in May Greg Zeschuk the reorganization of [Bioware Austin], he also talked about his plan to return to his family in Edmonton to take a much deserved vacation. Greg also announced the new [general manager] of SWTOR Bioware Austin and Matt Bromberg. Greg is still at EA. He is now back in Canada, where he takes a break and thinking of new projects. Come on guys, it's not like they're chiropractors. They were real doctors.
Real doctors are the phd chemists, mathematicians, and physicists who invent things like the MRI.

The bioware founders were the guys who looked at a picture and said you have cancer, here take this pill. They didn't unravel and master the primal subatomic forces of the universe. They were just physicians.

Yep. But they are doctors nonetheless. Why argue about which doctor is the real doctor? Since the medical doctor and the physicians are both doctors.

Your confusion is common in people. That is why I point it out.

A medical degree is not a PhD, which "typically requires the submission of a substantial body of original research".

Med school has more in common with law school or an MBA than a PhD in most fields. Using the term doctor to refer to a physician is a bastardization and dilution of the word doctor. It originated in the united states at columbia university in the 18th century. I feel the need to point it out because the majority of society at this point will use phrases like "yeah but you aren't a real doctor" when referring to a PhD of Chemistry. Ironic, since that person usually deserves far more respect, having made an original contribution that slightly increased the sum total of human knowledge. A med school graduate on the other hand has just memorized the work of the chemist and biologist.

Even the United States Department of Education and the National Science Foundation do not include the M.D. or other professional doctorates among the degrees that are equivalent to research doctorates.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctorate

And yes, I am aware the some physicians also earn PhDs. They can call themselves doctors.

They're called Doctors by Demos but they don't have Doctorate from University. This is only honor title like calling every schmock Lord (Pan) in Potatoland.

I know that they are not real doctors, in a sense that their doctor title is not PhD, and not from research. But I say if they earned that in their school (even if it is not as hard to get as a PhD), let them use it.

Obviously as an academic I'm going to agree as wholeheartedly as possible with the MD =/= a true doctorate. But I should also point out that at one of the bio-docs is a doc in the full sense of the word. I forget which one, but one of them did get his PhD.

Secondly, for doctors who work in 'teaching hospitals' (major, largely government-funded, hospitals that carry out a lot of research as well as training of med students/interns), many do go on to get their PhDs simply by submitting their career findings in their speciality over a length of time. Work as a neurosurgeon for 5-10 yeears and you'll find out enough new stuff about the human body that you'll be able to easily submit it as grounds for a PhD if you can be bothered writing it up (or even - in that situation, being a strictly non-humanities doctorate - paying someone to write it up for you).

So yes, they are different things. I'm not going to talk about one being better given that I'm more likely to rely on the MD to save my shit if iI have a car crash, but yes, a PhD has made a significant contribution to human knowledge, and many doctors do (and many others could) submit their own work findings as grounds for a PhD. Hell, when I had an elbow operation a couple of decades back, my orthapoedic surgeon asked my permission to use the knowledge gained from the operation of 'shit that can go wrong during routine surgery' (not the official title) for academic submission.

But then these days there are so many unis that exist because of the demand for vocational training and the lack of unskilled jobs, meaning that you don't even really know whether an individual's PhD is truly deserved without talking off-record to their ex-supervisor (you'd think that the institution itself would tell you, but there are good researchers who can't afford a good uni in a country that privatised its tertiary sector, and there are shit students who sometimes get passed because their supervisor has clout - it's rare, and good unis are still very rigorous when it comes to PhD's - more than what you can say for undergrad degrees where admin fucking stomps on us if we give a shit paper a shit mark.)

That's funny because in German medical degrees are a lot more prestigious than titles from other scientific fields and a doctor (Dr.) is usually harder to get in this field than in others because of all the stress and risk involved with this job.
