Using keyboard + mouse is the biggest mistake. I started like that and dropped the gaem entirely after ~5-7 hours. Tried 2 years later with controller and found it to be the best game of the last 10 years.

You could also go through it blindly, finding your footing with arrows or prism stones. But fighting in the dark is a bitch.

You can also trade some items for them to Snuggly. But that is pretty far into easter egg/spoiler/metagame territory. I'd recommend just trying to find your own way through.

This is the only non-platform game I play with a controller. And I hate platform games. Re: Tomb of Giants there's a held item that illuminates stuff. I guess you could have been unlucky with drops, though. The helmet you aren't going to stumble across until later unless you do things in a somewhat unorthodox order.

Bros, Tomb of Giants is dark as all fuck and completely unplayable for me. What do I do? Is there a torch somewhere in the game?
Are you going to Tomb of Giants to save a girl? If not don't bother. Actually, you should save girl before finishing Depths. In worst case, you'd get a light after talking with Trusty Patches...

BTW other source of light can be found after you massacre Hydra, and return into area... (Which also kinda unlocks DLC.)

Yes, I am trying to save 'the girl'. Which Hydra would that be? I killed the one in Darkroot Basin. I can try going back there.

Snuggly is also an option, but I would rather avoid checking the wiki on what to trade.

I will only return to Tomb of the Giants without a light (to get whatever light source is there) as a last resort. I would prefer to get something in advance.

It's true.. but unfortunately it's kinda down hill from here..
- The Catacombs are pretty fun, but the Tomb of the Giants is just annoying.
- The Archives are okay, but the Crystal Caverns are kinda dull.
- New Londo is rather short, and the enemies there are not all that inspiring.
- With Lost Izalith they just ran out of time and resources, and it really shows: the enemies are boring and repetitive, there's little to do there, parts of the level are just not there (lotsa holes in the world) and the boss fight is based on luck rather than skill.

Ah, that old meme. The memesters! When there was no DS2 and one couldn't whine about "muh miyazaki touch" yet, you dipshits whined that the second part after lordvessel was somehow rushed and lacked quality. But when DS2 came out, it took the game 20 minutes to convert you into Miyazaki fangirls after the Last Giant and Pursuer made you their bitches. L2p crybabies.

So you prefer DS2?

Return to the Darkroot Basin and travel along the left edge of the water, past the waterfall. Kill the golem there and rescue Princess Dusk. After going through a loading screen or restarting the game (this was a bit of a design flaw in my view, so I have no qualms about spoiling it), return once again to Darkroot Basin and look for a Summoning Sign (you don't have to be in Human Form) along the bank south of where you fought Hydra. Summon the Princess, who acts as a spell vendor.

However, if you're not already using or planning to use Intelligence for your build then I shouldn't bother putting points into it just for a Light spell. In that case, try exploring Catacombs instead.

Alternately go get the lord soul from under Blighttown before going into ToG, you'll probably get the most convenient light in the game in passing.

I really missed the torch mechanic last time I tried to play some in DS. It's one of those things where it's a game but you're like set a stick on fire so I can see in these corners dog.

OTOH not having torches is probably a big reason why DS1 seems to look better than DS2, because you can't see giant walls of poorly tiled textures everywhere instead of rubbing darkness on that shit

A weird thing is that the DS2 beta was a LOT darker. You couldn't even see the walls of the cave in Huntsman's Copse with your torch lit...

nah. they were just smarter with their tiling and there were much fewer big, flat surfaces with tiled textures in DaS1, or at least they weren't visible during normal play. in DaS2, they were everywhere and hard to miss

I really liked stepping into the ash tower DLC and getting the big money shot view of the whole level at the start, then panning the camera down slightly to see that they had an awful tiled low LOD texture going down a huge blank cliff face

So, I tried to explore The Great Hollow, got cursed ( :( ) and used the opportunity to visit New Londo. Big fan of the place. Would love to build a cottage there, with all the cuddly ghosts and shit.

Mommy, I am scared, take them away!

There is an item you can use to hurt ghosts, and there are a select few weapons that can hurt them without said item.

Also, do you know how to un-curse yourself?

Yes, already beaten the damn place.

By which I mean I opened the flood gate that allows me to reach the lower part without going through the fucking ghosts again, as I do not want to enter the fog door just yet.

Cool that Ingward can reverse curse for humanity because purging stones are pretty rare/expensive.

All it took was the right approach (being too tired to care) and weapon (titanite catch pole is pretty fast and one-shots ghosts).

Ah, you got a Titanite Catch Pole. Those things can be a bitch to get. But before you go through that fog gate, have you encountered Sif yet?

Half of fun is going into Tomb underleveled, and looking at lights, then when it seems you are really fucked, finding a light and finally see. Then it of course the only remaining thing is that incredible PITA to get out even when light shows the way.
