Elite Knight Armor's a very good set with a good balance of physical and magical protection, weight and poise.
Plus it can be found really early in the game.

Yeah, you just gotta beat the Taurus Demon and go on from there.

Or if you have the Master Key you can take a shortcut, but if you do that you gotta dodge the crystal golems and Havel "The Rock" Johnson on your way there.

Ravel the Hock can be backstabbed into Elder Scrolls IV with the Rapier sold from the undead merchant. 2 hand the rapier, have decent mobility (he will one hit kill ya so armor/shield will do ya no good) and proceed.

I don't think it changes the backstab damage whether you two hand or one hand a weapon?
Two handing increases backstabbing damage. Also the rapier has the highest backstab bonus of all, so it's a great means of dispatching Havel early game and get his bling.

Two-handing multiplies your strength by 1.5 in DS1, which means if a weapon has any strength scaling at all two-handing will increase riposte and backstab damage. It can be a really big difference with a strength scaling weapon like the MSGS if you are going from like 27 strength -> 40 after the multiplier, because each point of strength adds a lot of damage.

Doesn't work in DS2, although I never actually lost the reflex to two-hand after a parry before doing the riposte.

I have found out that high mobility, a rapier and a katana are a highly recommended combination against Ornstein&Smough. Always 2H, run and do the piercing dash against fatass, then when Ornstein goes uber switch to katana, stay at his legs and slash away.

Also, target locking is a no-no for this fight.

Target lock is okay if you know there moves. O&S tends to throw people off because the urge is to stay away from massive enemies. If you get right up in there faces (errr feet) it's a lot easier to avoid their attacks. And nearly any weapon works fine given O&S's relatively slow-ish recoveries after a swing/combo.

Are you guys using DSfix? It seems that at home it will only run using compatibility mode. Is there any way to fix that because in compatibility mode my frame rate drops 50%.

I actually died to Pinwheel on my first try. It is a source of great shame for me and my family.

By comparison though I beat Sif on my first try, plus a bunch of other lategame bosses.

I haven't played the first one in a while, but from a first time fighting perspective, Abyss Watchers and High Lord Wolnir are easily as easy as Pinwheel. One you can just stunlock/riposte/backstab constantly and the other takes 20 seconds if you attack the glowing rings.

No, they're not even close. Abyss Watchers has been giving a lot of trouble to many people and for Wolnir, you still have to pay attention to dodge attacks because no, you're not going to destroy all 3 bracelets in "2 seconds". Not even close to Pinwheel/Congregation/Deacons.

I said 20 seconds and if you can't dodge his attacks, you have the slowest brain in the entire world. Took me 3 hits per ring with a +4 weapon.

Abyss Watchers = run around like an idiot for 1st phase while they kill each other. Second phase = dodge, spam attack till out of stamina and just repeat over and over again. Honestly the easiest fight outside of gimmick bosses like Wolnir in the series for me. It was basically like fighting a Lothric knight with a lot of health.

What do I care if other people have problems with the fight? People have problems with every boss fight in the series.

to me it was actually easier than the average Lothric knight fight because those at least have shields 90% of the time, did more damage with their attacks and have a few moves that can stop you from circle-stabbing them. Abyss Watchers is a hilariously easy boss (which is a shame. if it was only parriable and not backstababble and staggerabble, and if phase 1 was skipepd entirely, it would've easily been one of the top 10 if not top 5 bosses in the entire series) and when i helped there more people died to the 2 darkwraiths than to the boss

I highly doubt it. Pinwheel is a boss that takes three hits to beat even from my newly made character that I am playing on now and can be beaten in 30 seconds. I like it though because the boss fight is a relief of fresh air from the annoying ass wheel hollows and the giant skeletons afterwards.

Yeah, I used DSFix because without it, I get a locked 15 fps.

Sif is such a bitch on my first playthrough and my current melee character. I used to try and block which worked but meant I didn't have enough time to attack. My magic character didn't work as well using the melee strategy in which I rolled towards her attacks, because magic is supposed to be long range. Eventually I figured it out.

Got the elite knight armor and drake sword. I did kill the hollow merchant to get the katana. Is it worth upgrading and keeping as a knight class? I heard it will get better with upgrades. Now I am at the capra boss after ringing the first bell. I tried fighting him but of course he immediately blocks me with his annoying dogs. I even tried throwing feces at him before entering (seen a yt video). Should I try to summon or go another way with the master key?
