Jesus they knew how to make dungeons in the old days. Finally getting really powerful, now exploring The Pit and getting my ass severely kicked by Queen of the Dead's and Lich King's. Those things'll kill ya.

Got Divine Intervention and is now running around finding peeps who can upgrade my Archmage's spell-stuff to grandmaster level.

By the way, Archmages can't learn Light Magic, can they?

In MM7? You can only learn Light if you go the Bracade route with the new Arbiter. Which I assume you did if you're fighting in The Pit. Both clerics and mages (isn't Archmage the second mage promotion?) can learn Light and Dark, depending on which path you take.

I've played before, but that was without a Wizard. But I've become an Archmage now and I haven't gained the Light Magic skill, which I seem to remember came automatically to my Priest of Light. Perhaps I just need to visit the guild.

It's not automatic. I'm trying to remember if you need to go the guild or if someone else teaches it to you... maybe Archibald?

He teaches grandmaster AFAIK. I'll just check the guild, something tells me that's where it's at.

For me, VARN was more difficult than Castle Alamos. You need a high level party before going in there, or you might be able to do that place at a level less than 50 with proper diversified spell development. There are some places with small dungeons. Agar's Lab, Dragon Rider Caverns, Icewind Keep, most of the Temples, Shadow Guild with the wierd door setup(easy enemies there). Of course, don't forget some caves/caverns that were related to either promotions or the quest line.

I want to come back to this, Might and Magic is the best series ever, it's just so playable in every way yet so easy to approach.

I'm stuck in the tomb of VARN and too lazy to try to figure out text walkthroughs.

I found VARN surprisingly easy, though I did have to retreat and heal in some areas like the two large connected hallways filled with enemies. By that point, I had enough nuking spells that I could gather most mobs into a group and kill them off in a couple of rounds, and I found it easier to navigate than most of the castles. Not sure what dungeon I found the hardest, but it'd probably be Alamos or Darkmoor.

VARN was a nightmare in MM6 playing in turn based mode. Darkmoor and Alamos was a cakewalk in comparison. I actually gave up on my 100% TB playthrough when I reached VARN. My first playthrough playing real time I gave up mid game. A friend of mine said VARN was only doable in real time using the modern or futuristic weapons (pistols and rifles).

EDIT: Uh...VARN is the place with the robots, right? Not the pyramid?

I'm pretty sure you only get access to the control center (and therefore to the laser weapons) after returning the control cube from the Tomb of VARN, therefore it is impossible to do the tomb with pistols and rifles (definitely sure about rifles, since they're all in the control center).

Tomb's not as hard as your friend makes it out to be. It's tough for sure, tougher than Alamos, but I had an easier time than Darkmoor. It's definitely doable, and unlike Darkmoor there are no eyes dispelling all your magical protections through the walls.

Ah, in that case VARN was not that difficult.
But the control center, with the robot guardians, was a bitch when playing in turn based mode, but according to my friend easier in real time mode using blasters (I think that was the in game term for pistols and rifles).

Oops. I meant Gavin Magnus.

Do Gavin and Archibald train any of the levels in light/dark, or have I got everything mixed up?

Yeah thanks, I had forgotten the right terminology (blaster pistol and blaster rifle IIRC). I can imagine the control center being more difficult in TB thanks to the Terminators and being unable to dodge their eradicating attacks (brought back some good memories from MM3, that). I think at this point I was still using melee, and only switched to blasters after getting out the CC. Going on a rampage through Dragonsand is tons of fun though

Gavin trains GM light magic IIRC. Archibald might train dark, I'm not too sure because he leaves his castle at some point during the game.

I just checked and it is indeed Archibald. You can find him in Clanker's Laboratory in Avlee after he gets ousted from Deyja.

prob because in real time mode they usually gang up in the corners/get stuck on stuff like torches, making it just a trick of peeking around the corner and blasting off a volley of arrows/spells.

thats how i did it most of the time.

I also checked and Kastore teaches both GM blaster and GM dark after Archibald gets kicked so there's no point in seeing archibald just for that.

I hate those robots in the command center because they break your equipment all the time. My patience in dealing with huge mobs is wearing thin, to say the least.

Also is it OK not to bother doing anything with Archibald after I've freed him? Will I get a worse ending?

Yeah good point. Though I like his lines when you visit him in Avlee, especially if you're on the dark path.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can do with him even if you wanted to, so don't worry about it. Him getting away is pretty much a requirement to set the stage for MM7.

Finished. After 13 years.

Man that final fight was a bummer, so easy, and I just hid close to the exit and the devil mob couldn't find me.

The scene with Nicolas at the end is some of the creepiest CGI I've ever seen, those characters models scared the crap out of me.

as long as you get that scroll from him you can forget about him after he's gone.

What the hell is going on with my copy of VII? I reloaded my old save and this is what I get. This spot appears all the time in-game, even when I go to a store or an inn.

This is the weirdest bug I've ever seen.
