Hmn ok. Anyone noticed how most NPCs have hazel-green eyes? What's up with that? :D
Probably devs was too lazy to make different eye colors, this can also explain overall state looks of npc. *shudders after memories of monstrosities*

Game started good in Edgewater, went to boring in Groundbreak and Roseway and now went back to good on Byzatium. The more I play, the more my general opinion on this game changes with I don't know if thats a good or a bad thing. At least it makes the campaign more engaging because I never know what I will think next, but it will probably make a second playthought hard to come by.

I believe official mod support has the potential to find a great game in here just like it did with New Vegas. A couple of female beautification mods, some combat rebalances here and there. At least modders will not have to spend years fixing hundreds of thousands of bugs just like they did with NV.

Maybe it's because of my poor wording, but you guys are blowing the brothel thing way out of proportion. The developer was just goofing around, which illustrates the point that in 2012 nobody saw brothel as a serious issue. It was simply, players expect a brothel so we add a brothel, conversation over. Whereas if they added one now, all of the Twiteratti would be writing critical essays about smashing the patriarchy, women's exploitation in the middle east and whatever the fuck else.

I don't think TOW is particularly woke and all the whining about evil SJWs is way over the top. But it's definitely sanitized. And that's a problem, because the setting lacks flavor.

Another example is that Firefly inspirations are all over TOW. The Unreliable looks vividly similar to Serenity, Parvati is a copy of Kaylee, and many other obvious references. But Firefly was packed with gorgeous women, it had a hooker crew member and one of the episodes happens in a hooker town. So even ultrafeminist Joss Whedon understood that hey, sci-fi audience is very male and that audience is going to enjoy our product more if it gets to see the titties.

I have no issue with asexual lesbian companion, some strong independent wymen as NPCs and any of that stuff in particular. What I have an issue with is writers catering to their own social bubble instead of to people who are going to actually play the fucking game.

Ultra feminist Joss Whedon also likes to have sex with hot actresses.

Beyond that, the issue I have is that plenty of their character designs and choice to "sanitize" their game goes directly against the themes of their game. An ultra capitalist/corporatist frontier game without sex or gambling? Wtf is this?

I mean if Parvati was asexual in a world where sex was super commoditized then that might've been an interesting angle but now its just boring.

I do not want to spoil the story for some of You lads but Parvati actually was a guy named Frank at first.

And no one is saying that Bioware doing bad things by the way.
Take that Tolkien fans !!!
Luckily i was a R.E.Howard and not a J.R.R.Tolkien Fan and therefore as a multiclass transclassist i transitioned in the ring and gym to a Barbarian / Witch Hunter multiclass.

If the argument was about people being angry about the exclusion of chainmail bikinis I might agree with you but this is this is like saying that having an inn in a medieval city is a political statement.

A chainmail biniki is a political statement to some degree but the mere inclusion of a brothel in the "underbelly" of a medieval city (or any city really) is just a representation of reality.
Two problems with that. The authors of fiction are always in the process of choosing what to be included in their works and you can't have it both ways. Either choosing to represent certain sexualities is political or it isn't, that includes heterosexuality. So by saying "this asexual is a political statment" automatically targets all other sexualities. "Heterosexuality is apolitical, everything else is political" is nonsensical. Heterosexuality means the opposite side of this political dichotomy in this context.

The second problem is that "representing reality" always seems to come with a huge asterisk about which version of reality we are talking about. I'm sure someone, somewhere was an asexual girl mechanic in love with a Chinese woman, so why is that reality an issue, yet a reality in which brothels exist isn't? If we are arguing pure numbers here, then every inclusion of a non-Chinese person should also be a problem, since they are the most numerous race and therefore the "default".

Among all the companions so far, I think SAM is by far the best, and doesn't even come with a related quest (that I know of). Ellie is probably the worst, both by how she's written and her incredibly moronic personal quest.

"Heterosexuality is apolitical, everything else is political"

I really don't want to get into this but i couldn't let that one go without the following comment: simply put because "heterosexuals" aren't a monolithic voting bloc, whereas "homosexuals" (and i include asexuals in there too) are, and allow themselves to be used as political tools. This will probably get split into another thread if we continue talking about it tho.

And yes, I know you will just reply "this person I know is gay and he votes republican so that completely invalidates what you just said!", so don't worry.

Who is your audience? Who is making you money? If your paying audience wants asexuals, then give them asexuals. It is not political, or at least it doesn't look political from the developer's perspective.

If your paying audience doesn't give a fuck about asexuals, but you spend resources to give them asexuals, then there is probably something else going on.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Something that I haven't seen people complain about in this game is the UI controls. It's confusing and unintuitive as fuck. There are some elements of the UI that can only be controlled with the keyboard, e.g. pressing E to buy/sell something, and then there are also things that can only be controlled with the mouse, e.g. browsing the journal. The whole thing feels really half-assed.

I played like 16h+ and still double click to sell the items, repair, sell, etc.

I really don't get why they did this when all their games were pretty good when came to the PC port.

I think I complained about the UI many posts ago. Its clearly made with a gamepad in mind with makes the whole think slow and awkward as fuck, hopefully they improve that in future patches.

If anything , they'll patch some aspects.

Even their flops have massive post launch support.

I hope fix the dificulty, its easily my biggest gripe.

That's a cute theory, but the way it works in practice is the same groups and the same character tropes are automatically included into every cultural product being made. Authors aren't in the process of choosing "what makes sense in this setting?" or "what does my audience want?." They're in the process of "which marginalized minority groups I need to include to avoid a Twitter mob?" or "which group I need to include to look superwoke to my Twitter bubble?."

Vital aspect of creative process is taken entirely out of authors hands and goes into internet pressure groups who demand inclusion or else. And the result of all this nonsense is that quality suffers.

Riddler correctly points out that Parvati would become much better character if you put her into hypersexualized setting. It would create a contrast and contrasts help characters stand out. That's why her personality works in the context of the setting, she's a kind person with a heart of gold, a beacon of sanity in a world gone mad. Her asexuality doesn't work in the context of the setting, because there's zero sexuality in the setting in a first place. Nobody flirts. Nobody fucks. Women dress like men and look deliberately unattractive. The whole fucking planet could be asexual for all I know. And in that asexual environment Parvati instead of standing out is bland and uninteresting.

i dont get the logic behind starvation at all... they survived almost a century on food they cannot process?
or why is an "irreparably broken" skip drive is able to skip after fifty years?
why the fuck does your spacers choice gear never misfire?
...
being able to respec ruins the difficulty.
alternatively being rewarded for lugging around armor/helmet pairs for certain skills is just tedium.
also having so many different consumables doing same shit creates inventory management nightmare..

...which is funny because F:NV UI was actually better than what TOW does with its UI, and F:NV just used lists.

Is it true that exp rewards are BALANCED so if you don't do sidequests and explore you'll get way more exp from main quests?

Everyone's single except Ellie's parents as far as I can tell. Reed Tobson should've had a wife, couple mistresses and a dozen children :P

Said before: The game's bare-bone af and has nothing on a pre-76 bethesda game except C&C/reactivity. Only person I saw who barely noticed/mentioned this was that Dansgaming dude, everybody else somehow ignores everything the game lacks for the type of game it was supposed to be. They even cut corners in narrative, giving characters 1-2 sentences of backstory max. Boyarsky wasn't kidding as he repeatedly said "time & budget".

(Outside of codex)People hate Bethesda atm and for that reason alone they don't wanna criticize Obsidian at all, hope this won't give Obs confidence to double down on how they made this game and proceed to make the sequel with same shallowness in most everything.
