I enjoy video LP's. Commentary is fine as long as you aren't one of the countless idiots who feel the need to fill every other second with jabber, make awful jokes and spout memes. Example, I find this guy pretty good:

Oh, let me know if you want to record some Shoot Many Robots multiplayer. Think my guy is around level 25ish. And the best part is I don't have a mic so I won't be talking!

I'm level 43 so I may be grossly overleveled to play with you, but that might not be a bad idea. SMR levels are short enough we could probably grab a whole level in a video. Might be kinda fun.

I really need to scrape some shit off my hard drive for more breathing room. Plus I'm not sure if there's a way for me to get rid of that 15 minute limit on Youtube without a cellphone.

jefmajor is awesome, probably has the most watchable B&W LP on the internet

the codex might like http://www.youtube.com/user/Kikoskia as well
a very nice fellow who also happens to almost, almost never swears for some reason (I've only seen it happen once and it was the phrase 'we're fucked', while mimicking what a character would say). He also does a lot of what I would call 'dad jokes'.
Also his page says he's 26 but he sounds like an eccentric british uncle with a fairly high voice.

I would suggest starting with his U7 LP

ah, wondrous internet, thank you for making content like this possible

Ready yourselves bros, encoding an ironman Bejeweled 3 let's play. Things get pretty tense!

I suppose I should make a thread for dumping shitty videos in instead of crapping up this one. Maybe. Possibly.

Yeah I've watched Kikoskia some and he's pretty good. Sometimes it's a bit off putting how he tends to play really really old stuff and pretends he used to play it 'way back when' when there's probably zero chance he actually did as he would have been like... eight at the time some of the shit was released.

these things are funniest with commentary really, unless you're a bejewelled god and are taping the video to show something like a perfect run

you need to be a very good stream of consciousness commentator though to get the proper "AWW HELL YEAH JEWELCAUST INITITATED THAT'S FIVE COMBOS BABY OH YES EMERALDS I SEE LOTS OF YOU NOW THERE WILL BE NO SURVIVORS THIS I SWEAR TO THE EMPEROR"

or you can go the smooth operator route and calmly explain your strategy while demonstrating it fluidly in real time "now some of you might notice on the left that there are three potential matches there, I'll get to them once I...yes, that sets them up perfectly"

I got the Kung-fu Strike that looked like a fun button masher. Me being a huge kung-fu fan an all. Too bad it crashed my PC after 5 minutes, couldnt even ctrl-alt-del it lol.

Hmm. Not sure what's up with the Bejeweled video. Noticed it while recording too. Way jerkier than Alan Wake. May be because Bejeweled doesn't let me adjust the fullscreen resolution, so it was recording at 1920X1080, whereas with Alan Wake I set the game to 1280X720. Could be my computer/hard drive doesn't have enough oomph for 1080 video recording.
KNOWLEDGE GAINED. Soon I will be making that Youtube money because of my pure Bejeweled 3 footage.
(don't watch the video, it is bad due to the jerking (even though it is some professional bejeweling))

Commentary!? COMMENTARY!? Maaaaan you expect way too much from me.

Edit: Hmm. Just deleted 15 gigs of Bejeweled video off my hard drive and it's saying I have 5 gigs free total. What're you up to, computer?

Edit 2: Just tried Darkness 2, same issue as Bejeweled. Seems like Alan Wake recording well was an anomaly, which is really weird since Darkness 2 runs way better than Alan Wake usually. Either that or there some other devilry going on here I'm not yet aware of.

yes yes good you are beginning your path to minmaxing your gameplay recording experience

soon you will be adding commentary and talking about whether it was hard getting the audio balance for the particular game right whilst singing along to the ingame music

"This has been MHC plays, thanks for watching and remember to visit my steam wishlist!"

man I want to hear skyway let's play kotor

now there's a sure sticky for the playground

I got some leftover Paradox hardware... Warlock, Crusader Kings 2, Majesty 2, Majesty Gold, and the Magicka series if anybody wants.

PM me and I'll see what I can do tomorrow. (A friend of mine gets first dibs, but he won't want everything, or possibly anything.)

Everything's been handed out except Victoria II and Majesty Gold -- but I think I'm gonna keep those for myself as I've never played them.

Enjoy everyone; I think they are all great games.

Dicked with FRAPS more today, not entirely sure why apart from the fact that I've got a bug up my ass to mess with it now. Probably why I mess with configuring Oblivion mods to work smoothly together and then don't actually play the game once I get everything working.
Anyway, messed with it some more. Initial L4D2 test before dicking was as follows.

Decent performance until a few spots where it flips out, then settles down again. After some fucking around I disabled Windows search indexing in the FRAPS folder and set FRAPS to update the FPS counter once a second. Haven't encoded/uploaded the second L4D2 test video yet, but it seemed to work a fair chunk better. Maybe those tweaks did it.
Also did a hard drive benchmark with a read speed of 55 mb/s and write of 51 mb/s so it could also just be it's too pokey.

Edit: And here's after doing the tweaks.

Another thing I thought about Borderlands 2 preorder... by the time it releases (Sep 20th or so?) Torchlight 2 should finally be out... hopefully... eh... probably not.

Slowly downloading Orcs Must Derp 2. Let me know if you want to do some co-op MHC. I might have to even join the infamous Diversity Squad.

I'd probably be up for that, most likely fairly late in the evenings though. My gaming time is spotty elsewhere and usually involves pausing as I go do unspeakable things.
How do you wanna handle the skull drops? Grab what you can, or gentlemanly skull sharing? Sounds like you get skulls for finishing missions as was the case in OMD1, plus skulls will sometimes drop from enemies like health potions and gold. Way more to spend skulls on this time around though apparently, a lot more upgrades available for traps and more traps themselves. Kinda afraid of it getting Dungeon Defenders-y but hopefully it's mild enough.

And Torchlight 2 in 2012? Look at you, Mr Optimist!

Haven't really given the skull system much thought. I'll play around in single player a bit now just to see how it works. Also I'm sure what you earn in single player carries over on the same character.

Played like 3 maps solo and 2 maps co-op with Mr. Metro. They definitely bump up the difficulty for co-op (Heavily armored orcs on the first map) and have the score goals for 5 skulls set higher apparently, as the two maps we did we didn't let any orcs through and only got ranked 4 skulls.

Fun stuff though, the deeper customization looks far less grindy than Dungeon Defenders (Especially since it looks like you can respec without any fee/penalty) and while there's trap and weapon overlap between the two characters it looks like they've probably both got some unique items. I think. Wasn't paying super close attention if they can spend skulls to buy the other character's stuff.
Only real complaint off the top of my head so far is it looks like it may be shorter than OMD1. Didn't count the number of maps in comparison to the original, but scrolling on the list it looks a bit shorter. Kind of a shame but endless mode should be a kick.
