So, how is this Hack,Slash,Loot?

I really want a competent, gritty rogue-like but keep getting these "goofy" piles of shit I can't trust enough to purchase.

No. NO. Seriously, no. Hack Slash Loot has almost no strategy at all, extremely simple combat, and is really punishing only because 99% of the game is pure chance. Wouldn't recommend it. Dungeons of Dredmor is a far far better goofy pile of shit.

On a brighter note I'm currently playing through Death to Spies. It's a fairly solid Hitman clone albeit the controls are a bit wonky at times and the AI can be kind of retarded (sees through doors).

I too have been dabbling in Death to Spies. For a Russian clone it isn't half bad :incline: . The cutscene things between missions are abysmal though, I am not sure why they bothered including that shit.

~5 hours left to take advantage of the 75% off id titles sale. Return to Wolfenstein is $2.50 and well worth it if you never played. Arguably the last good game id published.

Well I thought it was all leading up to a 'framed by Stalin, you then have to escape the evil Soviets' kind of thing what with you dragged out in the middle of the night to explain yourself but it didn't. The problem though is that it has no relation at all to the sequel which is a 100% total rip off of Hitman Contracts. Even your character stopped looking like a Slavic drunk and got the Agent 47 look. A shame. Good thing that the missions in the sequel are in many cases even better and there's a lot of opportunity to kill KWA and Limeys....:smug:

Oh and controls are easier in the sequel too, you have an instawin knock out button if you sneak up on someone now. So for those who find the controls a bit too 1999 they'll be pleased about that.

Well, played Rage for about 2 hours today and so far its....meh. Not much going on, some ARPG-like questing, shooting, but the story hasnt even started yet. And its kinda lame that even early enemies require 3 headshots to die. And invisible walls FTW. Incline only in graphics, it looks hella nice, its a joy looking at the surroundings.

It's basically a prettier version of Borderlands with a tenth of the content and even more shallow ARPG elements. I finally finished Death to Spies and it's... 'okay.' Some of the later missions get really tedious in terms of waiting on patrols and the right timing such that I just wanted to start off with some grenades and a machine gun and fight my way through. Certainly worth the twenty-five cents I paid for it but nothing exceptional... or even solid. Best to stick with the Hitman series.

I started to to try Space Rangers but something bugged out on the tutorial after I went through a black hole and my only option was to exit. So I might put that aside for now and go with Dark Star One instead.

Same here, I spent my first 2 hours with config files to fix the texture popups, and the next 2 hours fucking driving a car without shooting anything. I'm sad, and I didn't listen Codex advice to not buy it. But I'm a big fan of Borderlands, so I didn't listen.

I'll try to play some more, but I probably will end up doing another Borderlands run.

Launch Set of "Software" Titles Coming Sept 5

Aug 8, 2012 -- Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the first set of Software titles are heading to Steam, marking a major expansion to the platform most commonly known as a leading destination for PC and Mac games.

The Software titles coming to Steam range from creativity to productivity. Many of the launch titles will take advantage of popular Steamworks features, such as easy installation, automatic updating, and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space so your files may travel with you.

More Software titles will be added in an ongoing fashion following the September 5th launch, and developers will be welcome to submit Software titles via Steam Greenlight.

"The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games," said Mark Richardson at Valve. "They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests."
