And one thing we believe is that latency sensitivity is actually going to increase in the future.
Anyone who's ever tried a haptic interface will know all about this. They're extremely sensitive to latency.

Can't believe that simple and yet broken dota copy-paste rus-fest is the most played game on steam. For fuck's sake.

Look at the bright side. It only has a fraction of the playerbase League of Legends has :smug:

UPDATE: Garry’s Mod creator Garry Newman tweets the appearance of a number of differences on Valve’s staff page seen through Diff Checker. The comparison tool indicates the removal of nine employee bios from the People section of Valve’s company page, listed below:
  • Moby Francke, Half-Life 2 character designer and Team Fortress 2 art lead
  • Jason Holtman, director of business development for Steam and Steamworks
  • Keith Huggins, character animator and animator for Team Fortress 2 “Meet the” video series
  • Tom Leonard, software engineer for Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead
  • Realm Lovejoy, artist for Half-Life 2, Portal, and Left 4 Dead. She was also part of the original DigiPen-turned-Valve team that created Narbacular Drop, the inspiration for Portal
  • Marc Nagel, test lead for Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and patch updates
  • Bay Raitt, animator for Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal
  • Elan Ruskin, engine programmer for Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • Matthew Russell, animator for Team Fortress 2 “Meet the” video series
UPDATE: Valve boss Gabe Newell sent along his response to Engadget: “We don’t usually talk about personnel matters for a number of reasons. There seems to be an unusual amount of speculation about some recent changes here, so I thought I’d take the unusual step of addressing them. No, we aren’t canceling any projects. No, we aren’t changing any priorities or projects we’ve been discussing. No, this isn’t about Steam or Linux or hardware or [insert game name here]. We’re not going to discuss why anyone in particular is or isn’t working here.”

What the fuck is going on? o_O

The First ‘Steam Box’ Will Launch This Holiday Season Starting At $1,000

Xi3's Piston—the first unofficial Steam Box console—will launch this holiday at a starting price of $1,000, the hardware manufacturer announced today.
If you preorder it before March 18, you'll get a $100 discount.

The Piston is the first PC designed specifically to play games in your living room using Steam's Big Picture mode. Valve is helping finance the machine, although the Steam makers are developing their own Steam Box that will also be released this year, according to Valve boss Gabe Newell.

"Clearly, the computer/video gaming market is huge, both in the personal computer and traditional console markets," Xi3 CEO Jason Sullivan said in a press release. "That being said, we believe there is a crying need for a machine that captures the best of both worlds, with the upgradeability of computer gaming rigs and the design and form factor of consoles. We believe our Piston Consoles do exactly that-deliver the beauty and small size of consoles with the upgradeability of computers."

I'll never feel comfortable playing a game from halfway across the room on my television. Also wondering how many games will actually be playable since Valve's version will not include Windows.

Well... yes.+M What I mean is it will be a couple of years of this being viable before most developers/publishers start supporting Linux. Although fortunately most of the Kickstarter/indie projects do so already and, quite frankly, those are the only games I'm looking forward to in 2013-2015ish.

Kotaku is bending reality again...

At the official website you can biuld your own custom unit, starting at 499.00 dollars, NOT 1k. And that shit has close to nothing to do with the SteamBox, it is not focused on being a console and playing on tv, but rather a portable work pc, HENCE no GFX card... And fuck Kotaku.
