We are currently planning, writing a game design document, developing engine-agnostic systems and putting together a team to develop a game prototype.
We're currently looking for talented concept and 3D artists[...], specialists (programmers, tool creators, etc)
We are currently working unpaid, until we acquire funding

Glad to see this is finally happening. Get something presentable and this will be a seven figure crowdfunding campaign for sure.

Make the Codex Great Again!
Cauatiously optimistic, but if Underworld Ascendant taught me anything, it's that a dream team does not necessarily translate into a dream development team.

Agreed. I've been asking for this for awhile, so I'm super psyched that it's actually happening, with the original developers and all. Really interested to see what they come up with as a modern spiritual successor.

I watched a few videos by him, and liked them. But who is he, Ian, actually? Was or is he a game developer?

Hear me out: collaborate with Hello Games. They've been doing some fucking incredibly stuff with No Man's Sky and Sean Murray has expressed some interest in a procgen fantasy game set on a single world. They have a proprietary engine that looks and runs great, tons of valuable experience with not only procedural generation but asynchronous multiplayer (which was part of the design for TES Chapter III Tribunal from what I heard). They have great artists and it's a really efficient studio. Last I heard they have 20 people on payroll across three projects one of them being No Man's Sky which is still receiving major free content releases.

I hope they stick with the scale of the planned sequel to Daggerfall. Daggerfall was too fucking big but this is 1247km (775 square miles, probably about 500 square miles without the whitespace and the water). Perfect.

We're currently looking for talented concept and 3D artists that are passionate about the creating a new game in the vein of the deep roleplaying, dynamic storytelling and quests v and gigantic open world of games like Daggerfall. We will also need specialists (programmers, tool creators, etc) as well, but our primary need right now is artists.

So, what do they bring to the table?
They can't even claim to be "idea guys" because the idea already exists. They pointed to a game then demanded some people make them a sequel for free.

Wouldn't say this is an instant RIP for a game. As an example Ready or Not, the upcoming tactical FPS in the vein of SWAT 3 and 4 was started off by unpaid workers who worked for a little over a year and after they released the reveal trailer they got a private investor to come onboard and fund the game, and today it's close to finished and in a presentable state.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Pathfinder: Wrath
Indigo's videos on TES and the Jensen interview in particular are excellent, but I don't see this project going anywhere. They are far better off getting in touch with Daggerfall Unity and integrating with that. Joined the Discord nevertheless.

I hope they don't use Unity.
It'd be pretty cool if the graphics/art was similiar to daggerfall, with sprites and stuff.

I like their idea, I'm just not sure who is going to give them money for that.

Indigo gaming is a good channel, untainted by low standards, post-modernist cuckoldry and hipsterdom. If they are behind this they have my support

Legendary role-playing game design for both newcomer and veteran RPG fans...

OnceLost Games is an independent game development studio dedicated to reinvigorating the role-playing game genre with much-needed new ideas. Founded by veterans of two generations of gaming enthusiasts and experts, we aim to meet the gap between the deep, complex design pillars of games from the 1990's, with the production values, improved controls and quality of life features in games today.

We're hard at work on our debut role-playing game title, which will be a massive open-world fantasy adventure, and will boast revolutionary technology and game design by some of the most celebrated veterans of computer gaming, who have created multiple Game of the Year-winning titles.

We'll have an exciting announcement by the end of the year, so to stay tuned, please sign up below be notified about our game announcement as soon as it's ready!

https://www.oncelostgames.com

While we’re getting financing for our project, we are in preproduction with the help of a dozen very talented artists, designers, writers, coders, and producers who are dedicating their time and effort to this passion project. We have all agreed not to divulge any additional details of the specific work being done and features being considered until we feel they’re ready to be discussed.

The principal game pillars are inspired on classic RPGs including those on our collective experience:

• A huge dynamic world to explore
• Rich lore to be discovered, through NPCs and in-game books
• Non-linear and branching endless quests, which evolve the world, like a great virtual gamemaster running a pen and paper campaign
• Robust character generation and advancement

As much as I hate modern Bethesda, Arena and Daggerfall were kind of fun to play at least until boredom set in eventually. Their thing is that they have the lead designer of Daggerfall. That's pretty cool even though Daggerfall wasn't really that great. This could turn into something good. Not having artists for a game like this is a pretty serious drawback though. It's not a text game so art is really just as important as programming. Pretty much nothing will happen with this at all unless they can find an artist. And they don't have money to pay one I guess. It doesn't help that their real goals are so vague. 'Spiritual successor' doesn't tell you that much. They should be more explicit about exactly what kind of game they want to make. If it's going to be like a Daggerfall 2 or Daggerfall expansion then they should say that. Maybe they should try to learn to do some modeling themselves.

Original Developers of FALLOUT, IWD working on a BG SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR! TAKE MY MONEY!

Original Developers of FALLOUT, TORMENT working on a TORMENT SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR! START THE HYPE TRAIN!

When are you gonna learn, guys? It's pathetic.

How many people worked on Arena & Daggerfall?

I'd like to think the lesson behind your post is that getting a handful of the team, even the head guys, doesn't mean you're going to get the same old magic again.
