....

first off thanks for the more "detailed" posts why twitcher rocks, probably gonna get it next week, though one question goes with that......

.... i d usually go for the uncensored english version, especially as i dont mind / actually prefer english over german language in RPGs. our great german language is perfectly suited for porn/war movies/games but doesnt sound cool with RPG vocabulary imho.

HOWEVER reading that the english translation isnt that great.... any german here have the german version and can comment if our translation is better ?
could care less about the loss of gore if that were the case (though i dont mind it either, the censorship IS retarded, but whether i see gore effects or not doesnt bother me THAT much... )

I also wonder Who will be dumb enough/ignorant to play censored version?

*raises hand* I live in the US and I have this rule where I don't pay money for porn.

I would not really care for that if it would not be done in some ridiculous way like black square that cover boobs, as for gore it would suck to have it watered down.

I watched the full intro for this on gametrailers. It looks like something Blizzard would have trouble paying for. How much did those crazy poles spend on this game?

Well I hope they get their money back and a nice tidy little profit too, they deserve it.

Still can't quite believe how a genre can be in such a sad state of affairs and then gets suddenly turned on its head like this to end up being an awesome time for rpgs (MotB, The Witcher)...but I aint complaining!

The intro was made by Tomasz Baginski, a very talented guy who made an Oscar-nominated animation The Cathedral and e.g. Fallen Art. These are youtube links, but perhaps there are HD versions elsewhere... it's worth cheking out imho.

As far as I recall 20 millions $. But I'm not sure...

Actually 20,000,000 PLN (so about 8,000,000 $) + 50% more for the hype.

Yes, my mistake. And let they profit on this a lot. To grow even stronger and make even better not dumbed-down games.

Add to this the fact that Vader composed a song about the game and They have a stunt crew!

All that money and they still have reviews giving them 7/10. I realy doupth this game will ever sell enough to compansate the cost, is there actualy someone here naive enough to think otherwise?

If they manage to get the "we're a good developer" point across, perhaps they'll manage to break even with The Witcher 2: Scourge of Nilfgaard and start the profit with The Witcher 3: Yennefer's Revenge when all those sites which gave the first game a 7/10 score will praise the third part for "following in the footsteps of the cRPG masterpiece, The Witcher, by which the CDP Red Studio stunned the gaming world in 2007, practically redefining the genre".

(All the time, the series will be funded by the distributing branch of CDP and, of course, by the mobile h&s game.)

Well, tha game IS based on a rather popular book series, yes? Surely it should sell well? Isn't that what licences are for?

In Poland the book series was popular but the recent tv series and movie bombed. It's not a massive franchise.

8,000,000? That's peanuts compared to the 300,000,000$ the development of AAA titles is supposed to cost nowadays. I guess making games in Poland is cheap. Anyway, The Witcher is doing pretty good from what it looks. 7th on the PC top seller list on amazon.de, 9th on amazon.co.uk and 4th on play.com. It got pretty good ratings on both amazons, too.

Now, let's say they make an average of 25 $/copy they'd need to sell 320000 copies to get that 8,000,000. Sounds realistic. (I don't have a clue how much actually get per copy sold though, might be half of it...)

this is very, very good. I'm just went through the tutorial. I almost skipped work for it!

I'm running on a minimum req of 6600GT and 1GB ram. Takes a long load time but man, even on low details the characters still look awesome. A little skippy on the cutscene, but no noticable slow downs.

I haven't seen an intro that took 5 minutes long with not a single credit (Director , Designer etc etc) in sight. It's just Geralt kicking ass.
