I also wonder Who will be dumb enough/ignorant to play censored version?

*raises hand* I live in the US and I have this rule where I don't pay money for porn.

Well, the sex scenes so far didn't show anything. They're more like slightly humorous/awkward intermezzos. The little cards you get are rather innocent as well. Just partially naked woman in slightly provocative poses. Nothing that I would consider pron. The cutscenes also add to the story and gameworld, so I wouldn't want to miss ém.

Then again, I'm always amazed on how being able to butcher things and people in new and amazing ways in popular culture is so much more tolerated than sex. While in real life the sex thing is obviously much more apreciated.

Add to this the fact that Vader composed a song about the game and They have a stunt crew!

All that money and they still have reviews giving them 7/10. I realy doupth this game will ever sell enough to compansate the cost, is there actualy someone here naive enough to think otherwise?
It's not *that* much money, when comparing to AAA games by Western developers. With this first title we (CDPR) plan to introduce hero/world/IP rather than make trucks of money. I imagine it may be a little frustrating for world publisher, tho. They release two solid RPGs (MOTB and The Witcher) and they both get 70% (in days when the typical rating seems to be in 9.675-9.783 scale or whatever). Wont comment on our game, but arguments like: "It really isn't for anyone other than the devoted western-RPG head" (when reviewing an RPG!) are retarded.

yeah its really a shame, whats even worse is the hypocrisy here in germany.
a few months ago i seen various game "journalists" making posts/blogs/colums about "good old" cRPGs like PS:T and BG2 and how its a shame there is soo few of them.

now we have MOTB and the same german magazines/sites give it 10 sentences roughly translating "more of the same, but great if you liked the original game" with the usual rating that is equal to the original game. doubt these retards even played the expansion, because it really isnt "more of the same" and exactly what they were praying for a few months back. such a bunch of douchebags. MOTB sells pretty shit in germany as well, but at least i m seeing it high on US sales.

cant comment much on the witcher, will buy it tomorrow, actually twice, one copy beeing a perfect birthday present for a good friend. with all i read so far i m certain i ll enjoy it.

Which one was that? Gamestar?

Recently read some shit in gamestar where they said in a Witcher preview that some of the quests are a bit illogical. Yeah, might be, but they never noticed that in Oblivion or any other so-called RPGs.

Illogical? Do you know something more specific? PC Action should praise it if only because of the sexual content but I pretty much expect Gamestar to give CD Project a kick in the balls for not being a major developer.

Just wow. Two legitimate points (dialogue often ends abruptly even though there is still a lot to say and there is a lot of running around the countryside) and a lot of bullshit. That's just a preview though, the review *might* be better. What I don't get is the "good" at the end of it because she didn't say anything good about the game. She could at least be consistent. And how the fuck did she manage to bring in catholics and god?

"magie und christlicher glaube gehen in einer rauen, mittelalterlichen welt eine ungewohnte symbiose ein. die hexer, eine magierkaste, glauben an gott, machen sich aber arkane maechte zunutze."

looks like the missing logic comes from her not understanding the least bit about the setting.

It is a preview, they said the review will maybe come in the next issue.

....

thats gamestar for you, soo full of bullshit and inconsistency you could write a (very long) book about it.

i remember their vanguard test (never played vanguard but a good friend of mine did and he couldnt stop but telling me how full of shit gamestar were..... of course vanguard is also fucked- from what i heard - but that isnt the point). someone found out the character of that ugly she-thing who wrote about witcher above was only lvl 10 / 10-20 hours played, i.e. most MMORPGs dont even start before that, yet she had the balls (ahem) to write a review about a game she hardly played.... or bullshit like complaining it takes too long to get a horse (you get a horse at lvl 10 where its lvl 40 for WoW..... ).

that just beeing one of MANY examples. how anyone still buys that shitmag is beyond me. even PC-action which is basically "we want to see more tits in games (but at least honest about it)" has a lot higher quality then gamestar (that doesnt make them remotely good either though....)

PC action is at least amusing to read. Gamestar is only stupid mainstream-dev cocksucking biased crap, and it always seems to me as having less actual content than other mags. I just picked that one up by accident as I browsed through the gaming mags at the kiosk and saw something about Witcher on the front page. The Gamestar is also too expensive compared to other mags.

Well, it might not end up too bad. This game will probably be a cult classic in a way. From all the forums I've browsed, the word is definately getting out about this game being pretty good.

I admire you guys for bringing a new refreshing IP to the market and really hope you get enough back (money) to continue. Also important is the hope the publisher has enough sense to see the long term potential of this.

Yo know the thing is that The Witcher wasnt financed by Atari. It was fully financed by the owner of CD Projekt Red Studio. And the owner is CD Projekt, the lead distributor of games in Poland. So it is not in the sense of Atari as a publisher to continue the way CDPRD took with The Witcher.

I got this game, and just very briefly started it up (didn't even get through the tutorial yet) to see how it looks and plays. Looking forward to playing more tomorrow.

-But seriously, that has to be one of the most drawn out intros I've ever witnessed. I never want to see that again.

-Combat seems like it could be a fun idea for an action-RPG such as this.

-Writing (or I guess the translation) is a bit iffy as I expected. Kind of a shame since I think the voiceacting I've heard so far is actually pretty good.

-Like what they did with Aurora engine from a visual standpoint. The way cutscenes/dialogues works seems to be pretty effective, and there is nice detail on people. The game auto-set all graphic details to the highest option for me. Performance seems to be all-right, but it did stutter a bit here and there. Any tips on what graphical options use the most juice?

-Had a bit of trouble steering the camera. I think it's mainly due to the fact that I've been playing NWN2 for a rather long time now, and I just have to get used to this system (they are similar in some ways though).

-Boobies and chesthair (though not on the same character).

Looks like it could be a bit of fun this. Could it be that we are blessed with two good RPGs (this and MotB) within such a short time-span...

I still can't understand how jurnalists got so lazy these days. A couple of years ago there were 200 games coming out each year and atleast half of them were as long or challenging as the Wicther. Yes they didn't review every single game, but it showed that they put all their effort into testing and sumarizing those games.

Nowadays you got like what? 50-60 games out each year and how long are they?

Maybe, but they obviously still needed Atari for global distribution otherwise why go with them? So they needed some partner....I hope they (Atari) or somebody else in the future supports them, because I think this could be a very good franchise/IP

Is it stuttering during gameplay, or just during cutscenes? Cutscenes have a system-intensive "depth of field" effect, which seems to knock off a good 10 frames per second. I think it looks great, though. You can turn it off in the Advanced Options menu if you prefer.

If you're getting stutters during gameplay, you probably ought to bump the shadows down to medium. Either that or bumping down the lighting should take care of things, so try both, but I really liked the high lighting settings (bloom isn't excessive, except on Geralt's hair, and walking around with at night with a full moon is just beautiful), and didn't care much about the high end shadows. Your mileage may vary.

I found switching the grass off entirely made a huge difference to my frame rate. It didn't make much difference going from high-medium-low, but off it did.

Got about +10 fps in the big areas from the grass alone.
