What about water don't you like?

The Bumping and Texturing is great. The Refraction is good. The Physics feel good (when you are wading then begin swimming)

Oh shut up. Water looks like shit from distance, but water effects and physics are phenomenal.

Physics are good, and the water look great from far distance. it's up close that it looks like gelatin and a lot of repeated textures. There's no current or flow ia river. refraction is terrible. And on low or ultra, it hardly makes any visual diference. On a shalow riverbed, yo still see a dark blue tone that would happen only on deep water.

Maybe i'm spoiled by GTA 5 or Deliverance: kingdom come.

Besides the unimpressive textures, low-detail foliage and disappointing water can anyone comment on the quality of quests/writing/atmosphere ?

As good as witcher 1 and 2 , its exactly the same in some bigger more open areas, adult and entertaining dark fantasy. Its very streamlined , with pre explored maps so its even one step further in the dumbing down than dragon age inquisition or similar games . However you still have to find clues and follow tracks so far its good quest design .

I'm probably getting too old for fast paced combat like this.
This reminds me... Back when I played TW2 I, too, started wondering at some point - is it me? Could it be that I'm just imagining things? Maybe these laggy and unreliable controls are only in my head? Finally I couldn't take it any longer and briefly switched to UT2k4 and boy was it a relief. :)

It's not an e-sports championship. It's just a single-player ARPG - you cannot be too slow for it unless you have a serious disability. The worst part is that CDPR really doesn't have a clue. A lot of people complained about TW2 and they took it as a confirmation that they had come up with a solid, challenging combat system. What a joke! Anything can be challenging if you bind your hands behind your back but it's not the kind of challenge that makes playing a video game fun.

Apparently Geralt is so old and weak that he cannot parry a single swipe from a drowner without getting fucking stunned.

Also, check out this amazing AI.
Drowners are deadly afraid of water. It is known.

Yeah you are right, it was not long ago I played the Batman games. Those games are also fast, but you have so much more control. The combat just works :)

How buggy is this game? Are we looking at 1 or 3 patches before it's fully playable?

It doesn't seem to be very buggy but it's pretty poorly optimized so unless you have powerful hardware or are cool with lower details/FPS it might be worth waiting a bit for some performance improvements.

Okay, I wrested this game from the hands of a crying teenager, and now it's finally installed. I assume I'm finally going to get an explanation as to where the other witchers have been hiding until now (no doubt fucking kurwas and drinking). Ever since that stupid parting of ways in the first game, it's been bothering me that not once were they heard from again.

Bros, I started playing... and the game took a dive deep into fan fiction territory literally in the first scene. Yennefer was never at Kaer Morhen at the same time as Ciri. Critical lore failure. Game ruined. 0/10. Decline. Etc.

EDIT: Also my Geralt has his tattoo from The Witcher 2. Except this scene is supposed to take place YEARS before The Witcher 2.

Game of the year my arse.

EDIT 2: Yeah, yeah, I know it was a dream. Still stupid, because it suggests a memory dream.

I noticed. But Scaleform? Flash? I don't speak that language.

I thought perhaps my Core i5 is not powahful enough for such a krazy game.

Few hours in. While I somewhat like the narrative element so far, the beginning hours have not left a good overall impression. The game has this odd wonky, forced and plastic feeling all around that deters the motivation to go on and find out about things. It's boring... for the most part. Combat feels messy and disjointed, the world feels like filler content that exists for the sake of existing with little motivation attached to looking around it, the quests so far seem to have nothing really worthwhile in them (or perhaps I'm just not digging deep enough right now...). I dunno. Maybe it picks up better further down the line, but right now it's not doing a very good job. The first impression isn't impressive.

I am enjoying myself for now. The quests are better than I expected.

I am taking an alchemy path, which I do not expect will be strong until later in the game. I thought an alchemy path would make the playthrough harder on Death March difficulty. That being said, the highest difficulty is not all that difficult. As a level 1, I took out a level 6 bear without much trouble. So far, ghoul packs are the most annoying, because they will swarm you.

Hard to listen to the game's Blues when you're wrestling with the controls to pick up a friggin herb. Needs a couple patches/mods/tweaks to fix the technical issues, then we'll see.

About 8 meters beneath sea level.

As soon as that tutorial part is over it turns out to be a dream. With Geralt specifically saying she was never in Kaer Morhen. Anyway, game feels a bit sluggish. On high. On my ancient toaster of a machine. Amazing I can get it to look this good. On slightly lower settings it plays nice. They certainly once again nailed the atmosphere that the first Witcher had and which I loved. Folksy. Small villages teeming with ignorant peasants who might or might not pay you to hunt and kill their vermin for them. The attention to detail in the world is stunning. Plus I love the average person's attitude towards Geralt.

My game already froze twice in the inventory screen.

Geralt cannot jump 3 meters down without taking damage. Starość nie radość.

jesus fuck those have to be the worst controls yet in the whole fucking series :negative:

You are not trying to play that with mouse and keyboard right ? Its an xbox one port designed around a controller .Works great with one, the pad even vibrates when geralt detect magic.
