Wow sounds like the real question is how did they even manage to make one good game out of these terrible books?
By retconning them . Geralt coming back to the Northen Kingdoms at all is a retcon, the books are clear that he’s never seen again after dying the first time. If you’re a lore autist then CDPR has been dumping on the books with every game. Ciri is special because she’s unique, but they introduced another Child of the Elder Blood in W1 with Alvin. The fact that it takes until W2 for anyone to tell Geralt about Yen and Ciri is insane if you’ve read the books, that would be the first thing Dandalion asks about. All the monsters that are so prevalent in the games is lorebreaking, by the time of the books the only thing left to kill for Witchers are Drowners and nekkers. Yet somehow a freaking Kraken shows up in W2. Monsters are all over the place and there’s plenty of Witcher work to be done - because it would be boring as hell otherwise.

And then there’s W3 which is utterly inreconcilable with the books. Ciri being Emhyr’s daughter was a secret he was prepared to kill Geralt and Yen at the end of the books to keep, he wasn’t going to make her his heir. His plan was to marry and impregnate her because her son is supposed to be the one who will save the world from the White Frost. That’s also why the Wild Hunt elves want her, their king was supposed to impregnate her, but he couldn’t keep his cock hard because he hates humans so much and OD on asporadic (no joke this is legit what happens) to compensate. Yet in W3 everyone knows Ciri is Emhyr’s kid and no one talks about the prophecy regarding her child. There’s no way to reconcile that with the books.

Oh and letting you have the choice to break up Geralt and Yen for good in W3 so he can shag Triss is the kind of thing that would put ol’ Sap in his grave if he gave a damn about Witcher beyond using it to make vodka money.

Point being if you’re being autistic over them breaking with canon - these games have never been anything other than fan fic. Well made fan fic (occasionally), certainly better than Netflix, but no less willing to break from the books. Far as Sap is concerned the story ended with the books, Geralt, Yen, and Ciri were never seen by their friends again after they left, and that is the end.
It's actually beyond stupid that they're planning a trilogy about Ciri, and they've completely written off by default the whole thing about her child (since she's now sterile due to the trials). At least if at some point it went full Xena, raising a kid destined to become a great destroyer or someshit while being a wannabe monster slayer to the side, it could've been if not a new take at least an interesting and midly daring one. But no, i guess that's way too weird for any female character written to parrot a man 24/7.

Would be funny AF if she has a kid in TW4

Single mother, business woman.

“There was no father. I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him, I can't explain what happened.”

:troll:
Oh, 100% it would be immaculate conception. Even if in the books she only ever shows attraction towards men and just happens to get raped on repeat by a woman, these days that's grounds enough for casually turning a character bi/lesbian for rainbow points.

obviously the new lore, as it was in the games, is that being a witcher is kickass and killing all the plentifuls of monsters is cool and exciting, there's nothing in the games that makes it look like something people wouldn't volunteer for
with witcher 4, it's become another cool male hobby being invaded by femoids because the gatekeepers have been sleeping on duty

Um, akshually, that's only true if you take the events in the epilogue of SoS as a dream.

If main antagonist of TW4 is some elder blood carrier (what else could it be on threat scale after Wild Hunt?) you could do an Alvin in reverse where its maybe her son from the future trying to backstab her through time. If she is just a Witcher like Geralt and has no offspring than it breaks the lore and limits you even in potential adversaries. You can't just fight Bob the Wizard after King of Wild Hunt.

Tomb Raider started with a woman as the protagonist and kept a woman in the role of protagonist with every subsequent game. That courtesy doesn't often extend to franchises with an established male lead these days.

They are often retired or killed off and replaced with a woman.

You can go to various DEI pages for various companies committed to the cause and read through their policies of subversion. Sometimes it is subtle. Other times it is not - though they love and frequently seek to shove women into roles that do not suit them at the expense of men.

To the point where many games, even those not obviously compromised, now have women serving as city guards, blacksmiths, engineers, construction workers, military leaders and so on. Do exceptions exist in the real world? Certainly - but they are very few and far between and it is overwhelmingly men who shed blood, sweat and tears.

I know a decent number of men who do not care for the idea of playing as women in video games as a personal preference, myself included. Though there is a healthy balance to be struck and one that is no longer respected. In recent years there has been a sharp rise in the number of female protagonists. A game that goes the fan service route like Stellar Blade will sell much more than Concord or Dustborn by virtue of not having an ugly protagonist but it still won't prove as successful as, say, Black Myth: Wukong which has a monkey as a protagonist because...again, most gamers want to play male characters.
Lara is selling point of Tomb Raider. Geraldo isn't the selling point of The Witcher.

Listen chuds, Witcher was always about men being part of the problem.

Trailer is 50% killing monsters trailer and 50% of it is from witcher series(it was very similar to that opening manticore fight with fog and the creature itself). So I expect the game will also be 50% Geralt's witcher and 50% their witcher, at least it won't be unplayable like failguard for those who want to play it, rejoice!

I refuse to believe he's a genuine retard, a lot of his posts come off as trying too hard to look retarded.

That's what I thought but then I decided that if you're retarded at this level of consistency for such a long time without even a single deviation, then what's the difference really? It's retarded to have such an undying, single-minded devotion to feigning retardation.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
That said, this is really a striking example of a big flaw in AAA games. They are creating a game that may take 3-5 years to produce with today's politics in mind. Kind of like all the current year failures, these games were developed and they guessed (wrongly) that they would align with current year cultural attitudes.
Not to reply to my own post, but I've been thinking about this. Maybe the real flaw with AAA games is the amount of time they are afforded, not the politics. That is, they have all that staff, all trying to justify their existence, with nothing but time on their hands. Given 5 years, the slow drumbeat of time mercilessly evolves in to dipshittery. Maybe AAA games could be redeemed by 12-18 month production cycles?

Not sure what this thread is doing in RPG subforum though; alas, the definition of RPG is as murky as ever, but counting this series of GTA-like action games as RPGs? What's next, Far Cry is RPG too?
RPG is whatever Infinitron wants to shill.
Everyone should have been aware for years about Codex policy that, in Current Year, any game is considered an RPG if it identifies as one. :M

Wasn't it explained in the books (or was it the games? I forget) that Witchers aren't even needed anymore anyway due to the advances in technology, magic and formation of professional armies and monster extermination teams? Iirc witchers were created out of desperation following the conjunction of spheres, which just flooded the world with magic, monsters, and even worse, elves.
So give it a couple of decades or so and you could probably have a fairly successful non-witcher monster hunter, using a combination of tools and alchemy. Basically fantasy monster-hunter batman with a blunderbus loaded with sanctified silver flechettes.

But naaaah that would be interesting. Easier to just mimic Disney and shove a chick in it and make her gay.

Also monsters are dying out. It's been said a few times before in this thread, but even during Witcher 3 it was well past waning, so by the time of Witcher 4, Ciri is just going to be some loon desperately asking people for monsters to slay.

Of course, they could just do the stupid thing and be like "x happened, and now there's monsters everywhere again!"
Even in short stories published in the 80's there were mages caring about preservation of endangered species against the will of unwashed masses.

See - Sapkowski was woke before it was cool.

They made her eyes into two black holes basically with that excessive makeup, maybe so that the cat-eye effects would look more prominent. The rest gives an impression of extreme weathering, her skin looks like saggy, parched leather. You see faces like that on relatively young women who have taken to drinking.

You know the writing will be terrible just going with what was shown in the trailer. Before nu-Ciri kills the big bad demon he tells her she can't change anything. 3 doritos later and the girl is dead. Meaning the demon was actually right.

Instead of reflecting on her actions in the face of obvious failure she lashes out on the peasants with the "you're the real monsters!" line. You just failed the mission, go back to Witcher school and learn to wipe your own ass before trying to lecture anybody. But at no point there's any sign of regret or guilt, is all about ME and how COOL I am. Psychopathic behavior.

If they can't be consistent in a 6 minutes trailer, there's no way they will be able to write an 80 hour-long story without it falling apart.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
The funniest part is that normal women also don't like playing as women in action games. What I hear is "What if I want to be a badass guy, punching and shooting people? What if that's my fantasy?" or "I don't want my female character to be mid-looking, I want to make my character look like a heavily sexualized bimbo on high heels and pony tail dual wielding pistols, why am I not allowed to have my girl fantasy?"
If you want to stare at Geralt's ass another 1,000 hours just say so
No, I prefer your AI girlfriend from the mobile app. Does she look like Panam?

What "amount of time they are afforded"? What "nothing but time on their hands"? What are you talking about? Developers notoriously have to cut or scale down their ideas, because they don't have time or resources to put all of them into their games, or they have to delay releases or crunch. There is no such thing as enough time when working on a game. The proper way of thinking about it would be by asking "Where we put our time and resources in?", because that is where they can easily be wasted and that waste often has to be made good by spending even more time and resources.

What failure? She killed the monster that required sacrifices. No more sacrifices.

Can just pull her old cinematic self at that point

Personally don't even care that much about her look beyond the fact that if she's indeed 10/20 years older then how she acts in the trailer is wholly pathetic, but then again the constant outrage coupled with the chubby cheeks and souless eyes makes a good self-insert for tumblr subhumans so who am i to judge.

Though if she's like a day older, shame how time disfigured those pixels but i guess it still would give some joy to subhumans who can't even handle good-looking pixels because it reminds them of mother nature's cruelty (and also the five happy meals sitting on their table).

I remember when “they should make Ciri the new protagonist” was a fan theory I used to openly laugh at, because it sounded complete nonsense and too retarded to work both narratively and mechanically.

A character that comes with all the restrictions and limitations of the previous one in terms of being already too tied to pre-established narrative to be really flexible, PLUS she brings her own baggage of being too “lore-unfriendly” to work in the role of roaming witcher.

Congratulations CDPR, you are operating at “unhinged fanfiction” level at this point.
