Nah. It's lost much of the 'cool factor'. The primary target audience for medieval fantasy RPG's is men. Of those, a significant portion prefer to play as a cool guy rather than a woman.
Oh, so that's why all those Tomb Raider games failed spectacularly...
Add in the complete mess the company is in due to doubling down on ESG/DEI and that further erodes interest.
Unless it actually influences game's story or design, few people will care about the inner workings of a corporation. Most CDPR audience is not composed of chronically online clients of rage-baiters.
The game will sell decently but of those who do buy it, a lot will openly mock it if it has anything even remotely similar to Taash from Dragon Age: Veilguard.
All DAV marketing materials posted online were ratioed into oblivion. This is not the case with previevs for the Witcher 4. There's totally different energy around this title. Outside of some youtube rage merchants who need next fodder, because their 107th video about Veilguard doesn't get as many views as the previous ones and nobody (including Obsidian, it seems) cares about Avowed.
Given that they've already confirmed that Ciri will be able to partake of 'non-traditional romances' then that is highly likely.
literally nobody who knows the source material was surprised by this announcement. You're grasping now.
The company is currently in full on damage control. Putting out panicked statements about not working with Sweet Baby Inc
there was no official statement, simlly a responce to a comment on X:

Fake news like the ones about CDPR working with SBI need to be quickly addressed since there is not fact-checking on this portal :)
or even knowing what the consultancy company is until recently. Naturally the comments were brutal, proving that it was a lie by linking the company's own creepy videos expressing their commitment to DEI/ESG as well as pointing out that one of their more controversial employees has strong ties to SBI and Kotaku.
CDPR hires what, 1000+ employees and also works with thousands of contractors. There will always be some bad apples. However the question is the degree they can influence the project.
Given that this was a company that had amassed a significant amount of good will over the years it is unlikely they will reach that point again. They've chosen to double down rather than reverse course and the market and consumers will react accordingly.
We shall see. If CDPR assures the launch of their next game isn't a buggy mess of Cyberpunk proportions, I don't see them failing, but only the future will tell.

So when Bitcher 4 underperforms, what's it gonna be?
  • DLC/Expansion where you play as Geralt
  • Announce Witcher 5 super quickly where Geralt returns
The leftist cucks will never admit defeat by returning to Geralt. Next witcher game will either let you make your own witcher of either sex or have a preset male and female witcher (which might still be Ciri).
The trilogy will most likely be focused on Ciri, they won't change horses halfway through a journey.

If the online Witcher game will ever be released, most likely it will feature character creation. There doesn't seem to be a way around it.

And returning to Geralt doesn't make any sense. After 15 shirt stories, 7 novels, 3 games and 2 game-size expansions for Witcher 3 the guy earned his retirement. Let him grow old in Corvo Bianco with a female companion of his choice.

Lol Ciri triology will fail extremely hard. Being forced to play as a woman lesbian with resting bitch face and super angry attitude is recipe for financial disaster.

Tomb Raider is no where near the success of the Witcher and no where near the success CDPR wants the Witcher to reach. You cannot achieve their desired GTA level success with a woman protagonist game. And besides that Tomb Raider is an outlier, not the norm for adventure games. And even then according to ChatGPT unchartered series (male tomb raider) is more critically and financially succesful than the Tomb raider games released in the same time frame despite the latter having a longer longevity.

Some of you here are delusional if you think having Ciri as the protagonist or being able to get into lesbo action with her will make any dent in sales. If something tanks sales, it will be the game being a buggy mess like CP 2077 again (journo faggots know they will get lynched if they don't mention this time), the writing going to complete shit (doubtful, CDPR is on steady decline in that regard, but it's still miles above average Western games """writer""", the next Cyberpunk game made by American studio is where we'll probably see dogshit writing), or if they actually make Ciri and other females total goblinas (unlikely imo).

I'm not buying it either way, because I've been fucked over and lied to by CDPR too many times. First they make GOTY edition of TW3 cheaper than expansions alone, spitting in the face of early buyers, and then of course the whole fiasco with CP 2077, from the technical side to the game itself (goes for custom protag, keeps yapping about how it's "YOUR V AND YOUR STORY", and somehow ends up with someone more defined and limited in role-play than fucking Geralt and Mass Effect 3 style endings). If I end up playing it, it will be on high seas. I don't have high hopes, though, instead of going further in the direction of RPG and refining TW3 formula (ideally borrowing stuff from old Bethesda, like world simulation and interactivity), they'll probably just keep pushing the Hollywood cinematic angle more, with Ubislop gameplay as an add-on.

It will, just not a massive amount, certainly not Veilguard levels of depletion.

Trends mean a lot with sales, and Witcher 4 has been bracketed as another woke game because of Ciri being the protag, even by normies on the likes of X & Facebook.

Witcher 3 sold 50mil units, I still reckong Witcher 4 will sell around 30m-40m, but her inclusion has definitely put some people off buying it and the "hate-woke" train is really starting to gain some momentum now. There's literally millions of people coming out of the woodwork attacking any sign of wokeness who would have been banned from the likes of Facebook over the past 10 years or so, and those trends will affect anything caught up in the storm.

With games like: Kingdom Come 2, Alkahest, Dawnwalker, Archolos 2.0, Monomyth, Of Ash and Steel, ExeKiller etc, I couldn't give less of a fuck about Witcherella and CD Projekt Rekt. CD stands for cross dressing. If at least 1-2 out of 7 games I've mentioned is good, why the fuck should I give 1oz of fuck what Warsaw dildo riders & soy drinkers do with, as far as I'm concerned, finished story
What if W4 has a quest that allows Ciri to transition, so it wont be about cross dressing but full on magical gender transitioning
This is a brilliant idea. :incline: If the transition takes place during a prologue, the game can then proceed straight into a character creator menu where the player chooses Ciri's body type, appearance and new trans name (we're not dead-naming former Ciri after transitioning, right?).

It's not delusional and it will.

Most gamers want to play as a male character. Either as a set protagonist like Geralt or one they can create themselves. In almost every game with character customisation the most common pick is some sort of male human fighter archetype.

Gaming companies, especially progressives, have been whining about that for years now. So they have shifted to trying to force more and more games to have a female protagonist - but at the same time, they tend to alter them to not be conventionally attractive to avoid the 'male gaze'. Either by outright subversive picks like an ethnic lead or by aging them up to resemble middle aged women.

That you are not capable of pattern recognition at this point does not mean those speaking out are 'delusional'. The penny simply hasn't dropped for you yet.

1) Since when Tomb Raider games are considered RPGs?

2) Tomb Raider was sexy (or what passed for sexy at the time). You won't see that in your typical modern "strong" female protagonist, because for whatever reason a woman is not allowed to be sexy. This takes away an important factor for men to stomach playing as a woman.

A fixed protagonist is a fixed protagonist, both in an action adventure and a rpg.

This is CDPR we're talking about. Regardless of how Ciri looks in the cinematic trailer, I'm sure they'll make her ingame appealing, just like in Witcher 3.

Even if Witcher 4 succeeds by some metric, it's only a matter of time before the franchise goes defunct based on the choices that CDPR is making.

Just look at Dragon Age or even outside the gaming industry like Star Wars. Name recognition can only go so far when almost every choice you make pisses the goodwill you've built up down the shitter.

Eventually the normies DO cotton on.

That's not an argument for Tomb Rider being an RPG though.

We shall see. This is the modern CDPR we're talking about. One fully committed to ESG/DEI, at least on paper.

Yeah, cause that's how CDPR has written their games so far
I and many others can look at the evidence, read signs and recognize patterns, its not an out of the blue opinion. Ofc CDPR is or was better than most about being subtle when it comes to preaching but I don't believe that's staying that way when they do shit like hiring a woke game journo(who hates the audience) and make him their lore master + all the ridiculous Ciri decisions.

read signs and recognize patterns

Signs and patterns lead to different conclusion. The last piece of narrative work they produced was released 1 and a half year ago, and it was absolute quality.

iring a woke game journo(who hates the audience) and make him their lore master

You should be more concerned about the fact that he liked the Netlfix series more than any "woke" idiocy. You can be woke but also competent, and for a lore master it doesn't matter being woke or not.

all the ridiculous Ciri decisions.

Which are? We know nothing about Ciri in this game, only that she's mutated

I use "woke" for brain rotten progressive types, not for every lefty and I didn't know that he liked the Netflix crap but am not surprised. Thanks for immediately validating my argument with an example lmao

Which are?
91 pages of Ciri bitching.

That's already enough to be sceptical, no? CDPR will need a very good explanation for that, because it makes no sense.
