The Brigmore Witches has a much more powerful Thief vibe than Thi4f. Ironic, heh. :salute:
Now I want to actually play Dishonored.

From what I have heard through my grapevine of industry connections leading to inside the studio, SquEnix considers EM to be their single largest none-core money sink at the moment and Matsuda is angry. If Thief isn't ready for February (they've been given an ultimatum, they have no extensions left), and doesn't recoup the money invested (unlikely, after 6 fucking years in full time development), they will be shut down.

These are all personal sources so take this with whatever dose of salt you wish.

Would be a shame not to let the DX:HR team have a go at a proper sequel. What a fucking waste.

Thief 4 should never have been "a thing". It should have been a cheap "slam dunk" title re-using DX:HR's engine. That would have allowed them to create a pure niche stealth experience and still recoup their investment.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
What if I run out of noise arrows and want to jump in order to attract the guards and slip past them? This shit is laughable. Human Revolution was a good game, Deus Ex or not, but Thiaf sounds like shit, with fundamentally flawed approach to design.
But that would be a player-driven sandbox mechanic instead of one not immediately anticipated by the game's developers, thus you're not allowed to do it. Because of course, games like Thief, System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are all about restrictive mechanics within a tightly controlled framework which must be mastered solely as designed.

I'd love to see Eidos Montreal take on Terraria or Minecraft next.

Actually, their swoop mechanic could be a nice popamole thing (if they done it right, ffs).
It could be used to give a slight boost of speed when running away from the guards, if they detected you (like, you run forward, then you need to quickly run backwards (or turn in some opposite direction) and you want to avoid losing time to stop and gain speed again). With some weak points, of course (if you stumble into a wall, you'll get a speed loss, for example).
But hey, it's too hard for a cuntsole player to think while playing.

There's a new trailer up. If they could spend that money making an actual decent game rather than fancy trailers, that would be nice. Oh it features lazy voice acting and it also recycles scenes from previous trailers because why not.

I don't know which verbal diarrhea is worse; Garrett and his SOCIAL INEQUALITY yammering or, what I assume is Baron and his AM I EVIL YET speech, both of which could be summarized in two sentences instead of wasting a trailer on them. But then again I really don't know why I'm surprised by hamfisted writing when I can imagine writers probably admiring each other's fedora and complimenting themselves for political statements and RAW RAW FIGHT THE POWAH.

Long time ago in this thread i and someone else said that this would be a playable game if it weren't for the Thief title. Now i'm not even so sure about that.

Bunny hopping produces sound so you would not use it unless the level is cleared but at that point who cares if you are jumping or not? I mean does that guy seriously think the Thief gaming population bunny hops everytime everywhere?
I remember when i was little i played Duke Nukem 3d for the first time. Unlike Doom i could jump. This impressed me. It was a clear progress. But this, removing a jump is just the opposite of that. What is the word for opposite of progress?
Oh there it is:decline:

Maybe the game doesn't do real sound propagation and it would be obvious the first time the player jumped and none of the AI gave a shit?

Or maybe the AI can't see 'above' Garrett's head (in fact, I seem to remember reading that the player is nearly invisble when up high), so jumping away from the guards just results in a series of: "Where'd the taffer go?" "There he is," "Damn, lost him," "Aha, I found him," "As soon as I find you, you're dead," "To arms, all!"

Wouldn't it become obvious anyway once the player produces any other kind of environmental noise? Like picking up an object and dropping it on a stone floor?

I am, of course, assuming that you can indeed pick up various props like you could in all the other Thief games...

Only if your "thief vision" allows it, if EM past precedent tells us anything.

Ok, I might've passed some news about incoming Thi4f, but fuck me, this is just awful.
Where are the Hammerites? The Pagans? Wasn't the plague part of DS "plot"? Since when Garrett gives a flying fuck about revolutionary beliefs?

I could hope this game dies, but then again I'd love to check if it's more awful in comparison to the first two than "Absolution" to "Hitman" series.

As an aside, did EM cease and desist Sneaky Bastards or something? They had by far the most negative preview out there and their hosting has been "suspended" since just after it went up...

The best part is it sells itself as deep, dramatic and awesome. Garret's "lost innocence" moment where he says "stealing never affected me... until I got stolen from!!1" is so facepalm-worthy I have to imagine even the developers were laughing their asses off but said "leave it in, it's great!" in a sarcastic manner. It's such a gigantic cliche it's impossible to take seriously and I can already predict the exact story beats of the game based entirely on the trailer.

Seriously, if the plot isnt:
  • The Baron ruthlessly tries to industrialize the City in the name of "progress"
  • Garret is on "just another job" when he becomes involved with a woman (probably a prostitute)
  • The woman is killed/raped/life ruined/etc. and Garret has a "now it's personal" moment where he becomes disillusioned and he vows to take down the Baron
  • Garret becomes involved in an underground resistance movement (later revealed to be the Keepers) who plan to overthrow the Baron
  • As its leader, Garret performs a number of thefts and surgical strikes to weaken the Baron's influence in the City
  • The Baron, in his desperate attempt to stay in power, reveals that he has been influenced by dark magic combining both Hammerite and Pagan gods into an unholy fusion, and turns his castle into a massive fortress of evil guarded by undead
  • Garret's new mission becomes to hunt down a holy magic arrow that will separate the dark magic and allow him to attack the Baron directly
  • At the end of the game, the Baron becomes a demigod capable of ridiculous magical feats, while Garret has to defeat him in a conspicuous arena full of shadowy areas, rope arrow hooks, etc., using said magic arrow, before beating his face in with his blackjack
I will be really surprised.

Actually, fuck that, that's probably a better story than what's in the game already.

Being able to pick up random props breaks immersion. A master theif would only pick up important items, so Thiaf innovates on the old games by only letting you pick up important props.

Don't worry though, when you push the loot button, if there are no lootable objects, Garret does something AWESOME.

Finds a pencil, turns it into a diamond, then loots it?
