There's a new trailer up. If they could spend that money making an actual decent game rather than fancy trailers, that would be nice. Oh it features lazy voice acting and it also recycles scenes from previous trailers because why not.

Aside from the general awful writing, which should come as no surprise to anyone at this point, we have this nice bit of trolling from SE/EM:

"City's changed... I've changed"

"This is no place for the weak to cling to the past"

"The time has come for a new future... one of industry and progress above all"

"A new dawn is coming"

Lol at the childish political messages.
Evil guy: "We must build industry! Progress is the future!"
Garrett: "Ha! Yeah, right...progress! Taking jobs from poor people...in the name of progress..."

Yeah you go Garrett, stick it to the man! Damn progress...uh wait a minute, are you talking about the same industrial progress that in the real world helped to free billions of people from a life of poverty, malnutrition and feudal servitude? Uh...well, go on then I guess...+M

As everyone else has said the theme is all wrong.

But the killer for me is the Garrett voiceover. Sounds like a 15 year old kid trying to be Stephen Russell and failing hard. Now I wish they'd replaced Garrett with some next gen hipster protaganist for real, instead of doing it in all but name.

"fuck you, thief fans. we're making this for consoletards, and hope people will buy this more than call of duties, and prove that the old thief games are bad because they never sold well, and we don't respect it."

they are not man enought to say that directly to our faces, they aways say the opposite in iterviews.

I bet if someone make a paternity test, they would not find a trace of thief's DNA on this shit.

Yeah, it's really weird to have industrialization painted as a reactionary project benefitting the upper classes of society, when in reality it did the exact opposite. Enlightenment thinkers were also typically very egalitarian, so this Darwinian "we don't need the weak!" creed doesn't fit the Baron.

If it were someone clever and talented making such a juxtaposition, I'd have expected good shit, because you can obviously make it work - Thief 2 actually kind of did it by making its technology unreasonably advanced, and having it slowly replace humans in some instances, which is what we've seen actually happen in modern times - but in the hands of EM it will likely result in a confused mess.

That what happens when you give a promising studio too much freedom.

The new trailer is awesome.
I wonder who that X symbol new cult is.
There is also a strange eye-like symbol on the banner at the start of trailer.
And the baron gets his name! Northcrest! Fantastic.

So the conflict is between industry revolutionist Baron Northcrest (the rich and powerful) VS the voice of the People Orion (the weak, poor and oppressed)?

And there is also a plague. lol. There had to be a plague to reduce population that need to be shown in-game, right?

The last line is awesome! Master Thief is going to pay the price to save his dear City!

A real thief would loot the city while population is too busy running around in circles during the chaos, or just steal back control of the city.

This trailer is fail in so many levels, I questioned an article that said that gamming didn't evolved because most developers quit before they get alot of experience. I think the problem is worse, they quit before developing a working brain because I never saw a more soul lacking piece of digested political mensage to not offend sensitive liberal souls with it's empty, meaningless and disconected phrases that are there just to trick dumb people to think that who wrote that bullshit was intelligent. It is visible that there was alot of people working on this thing only for the money, because it is just souless trash without a grain of personality to it.

You guys do realize that early industrialization (in Europe at least) had a very negative effect on quality of life, right? Only in the long run did it end up benefiting the lower classes. Not that I expect the writing in the game to be any good.
