Now it's official. Eidos Montréal never wanted to make a Thief game. They were making something but their masters forced them to tie it with an existing IP that they had the rights to. Thief is now officially keeping less than it's removing, and it's no longer justified to call it Thief or the character Garrett. There's nothing about that character backstory that fits with Garrett.

This forum is like one of those 4chan photoshop threads. We ask "EM, can you please do this, and not that?" -and without exception the response is always "Trololo we do that."

This is all our fault. Thief went downhill so fast because we were giving too many directions uphill to the troll who was in the wheel. We are like liberals are to the republicans. The opposite of everything we say needs to be implemented.

As bad as it feels admitting it, I guess contrarian was in our side afterall. If everything he advocated would have been taken into consideration by EM, they would have produced the opposite of it all, and thus made the perfect Thief game. We all should have been trolling the troll that is Eidos Montréal, so that it would have taken the bait and given us what we want by accident.

Platinumoxcity is a quality poster and would make a fine edition to the hive mind. I know Viktoria tried to silence him once before with a temp ban but he isn't afraid of her split personality, anti depressant bullshit.

"In a way [we are] expanding on the essence of what that kind of character archetype is," Gallagher said of writing a "new" Garrett. "I think Garrett is unique. And I think a lot of people connected with the old Garrett. It's a very compelling thing to try and get you to empathize with this guy."

Yes, a lot of people connected to the old Garrett. So why change him? And if you're going to change him, why change him into an emofag? An amnesiac emofag to boot, if the quote below is true:

Garrett wakes up in a city crumbled under corruption, greed and an unjust rule. His friends tell him he has been gone for one year. And this is where the Garrett of Eidos' Thief begins.

Absolutely EVERYTHING about Thief that was different, unique and stood out is being dragged out, whipped, beaten and shot. Can someone destroy this abomination of a game already and put these people out of a job they clearly do not deserve?

That's some Twilight-fanfic level of writing here. I'm pretty sure the Garrett I use for my FMs, who is faceless, selfish and arrogant, sometimes careless and who doesn't give a damn about anyone, has more in common with LGS' Garrett than EM's Gorrett.

Gallagher demonstrated how Garrett stands in most of his promotional art, and viewers can see glimpses of his fluid, graceful movements in the handful of available trailers: the thief stands with one foot out, crossed at the top of his other foot and taking up a small amount of standing space.

"I've said this before and sometimes people misunderstand me," Gallagher said, "but there's a certain amount of the feminine in Garrett, he represents a lot of both [male and female.] The strength and elegance of the feminine, as opposed to the chest out, legs apart, 'I will save the world' [attitude]. He's not a savior by his own definition.
Well it was obvious from the pictures, but NuGarrett being a metrosexual is now confirmed. :) Good fucking god this whole thing is so utterly bizzare. Admit already EM, you've been reading these here forums for the last months and years and made it your goal to develop the ultimate game to troll the 'dex.

That's because game development is full of people who can accurately simulate the movements of a human eyeball, but only a small handful who can (and are allowed to) write above the level of a bodice-ripper. This is where technology-fetishism and corporate disdain for the consumers' intellectual capacity has lead the industry. Not even movies are as perversely contemptuous about the people who buy and consume them.

Gotta let the hate ferment a little while longer. Bioware fanboys were mad about ME3 ending, too.

So lemme see if i got this straight... The gamers are divided on the new Thiaf:

The Fans, who played the series back in the days and loved it, are offended by the brutal rape of the franchise and will not buy it.

The Casuals, who never played Thief and never heard of it, think it looks shitty because its just a "Dishonored/Assassins Creed Rip-off" and wont buy it either.

So basically this game is going to flop, since they arent appealing to anyone in the market...?

I'm really kind of impressed they are still putting more PR details out there, I mean, holy shit this is just bad. A blind man would be able to see this is bad. They should just go completely silent and push it out as fast as possible, but I guess they've wasted too much money to do that?

This is going to be the flop of the decade.

Its going to be a flop even if it sells well since Square Enix will set it an impossibly optimistic sales target that it cant possibly ever meet.

Considering the budget they've blown over the past 7 years I can't even imagine what Square Enix is setting that target as. 8 Million units? 10? They'll be lucky if this sells 2m at best.

The quoted sales expectations of Tomb Raider was 10 million. Yet they sold around 2.5 million and rushed it to sale on steam to make back as much as they could. I would say their internal target is still massively warped based on them selling it on two console generations. So lets say 6 million.

With luck it will be enough of a crater that it will take Eidos Montreal with it.

It does kind of remind me of the ending of T: DS. Although that was a little girl, not a prostitute.

One does not exclude the other. Garret is now her (effeminate) sugar daddy. and then beacuse he's a very emotional character he is hurt when she changes and leaves him.

fuck what a brutal rape. It's funny how right skyway was about this from the begining

how long untill standalone The Dark Mod?

Boy, if they are selling us a $60 game, sell 2.5 millions of copies, and still bicker about losses... well...
I doubt that they put $150kk in the fucking Tomb Raider. Even if we divide that number by 2 (returning money to the investors, distribution crap and everything), I still doubt that they put that much money in there.

Tomb Raider was in development for not even 1/3rd the length of time that they've been wanking over this turd. They must be looking to clear at least 10m units just to recoup the investment, let alone profit.

I bet Thief has cost at least 50 million to make so far. It's been in development for years. 100 million is probably closer.

To be fair, I doubt the game had a full development team for the entire period. It's like how Dragon Age was in development since 2004

My understanding is actually that the stupidly high sales targets Square Enix sets for Edios games are a result of the Japanese side of the business basically bleeding money due to the insane production costs their Final Fantasy et al games have. Obviously, them pouring 7 years of development into a game that won't recoup its losses is a bad idea, but it's not like Eidos games are selling poorly - just that the amount of money being thrown at them and the expectations for the brand performance are way too high considering the (nowadays) modest followings those properties have.
