It's not intended to be a direct sequel is it? (I never played it)

Ugh. I hate what I have become from this. Bitter and suspicious and negative. And the community as a whole all comes off this way, which damages our credibility and provides justification for the devs to ignore our concerns as rabid ranting. And the awful truth is that it's Eidos that made us this way, with their long silence interpreted as disinterest and disrespect. And when they finally broke that silence it was to confirm our suspicions that we were not being listened to and in fact the game was not being made for us at all.

Eidos is not suddenly going to start listening to our wishes or addressing our concerns. I think if we all try to accept that then we will stop being disappointed and angry and maybe we can break the cycle.

This sounds like something from DX:HR pre-release. It's a shame the Thief fans didn't figure out their beloved franchise was going to get raped just like Deus Ex. System Shock's about due for a good raping isn't it?

There won't be a System Shock sequel anytime soon since Looking Glass' insurance company (or whatever the hell they are) is sitting on the rights and nobody seems to want to buy 'em.

Its a stark contrast to the early days. We were all so positive and must have given them the blueprint and syntax for the ultimate Deus Ex game on those forums. Only for them to not give a damn until it came time for marketing to milk us for $60. The Thief forums are an exact copy of the DX forums in the run up to launch with even the most loyal supporter becoming jaded and dejected. And they only have themselves to blame for it but they are to damn stupid to figure it out.

It's a sister board for crying out loud! I don't understand how they could miss it!

Funnily enough, the expectations for DX:HR were so abysmally low here on the Codex, that some people actually ended up liking it after it was released. Good for what it was, as we like to say around these parts.

Expectations on the DX forums were also low until the steam press demo was leaked. All most everyone downloaded it on the forums and they even set up a thread for feedback. It changed a few minds and lightened the hate posts a little.

Because they just don't care. They want to make the game they want to play, but they fail to take into account the 10 million other people that Square Enix expects them to sell the game to.

You guys are from TTLG, then? That used to be a cool place. I remember Terry Pratchett posting there a long, long, long, long time ago.
I think they're from the Eidos forums. You can tell by how traumatized they are. Only official forums do that to a person. :M
And earned my place in Valhalla for it as well.

I believe EA also owns part of the SS IP, it's a total clusterfuck.

And God bless them for that.

Also, there is nothing worthwhile in the System Shock franchise that doesn't come from the creative environment at LGS/early Irrational: the plots, locations, even the ''crazy, powerful AI looking for vengeance'' are all worn-out SF clichés. The genius is all in the actual implementation, and that was all in the people who worked there at that time. Give the franchise to another design team, and they will give you Doom 3 or Aliens: Colonial Marines even if they will spend $3 million trying to breed authentic psionic monkeys to ''get the DNA of the franchise right''.

Better dead than popamole.

Funny thing, expectations...I ended up liking Unreal 2 and Invisibe War do to my low expectations of them.

"[He] kind of inspired himself as basic premise: We took his personality and [figured out] what he can't handle."

Gallagher shared more details of the "new Garrett's story," offering a deep look into the world of Eidos Montreal's Thief. The game will star a Garrett haunted by loss and determined to never kill anyone unless it was necessary. Gallagher said Garrett's story begins with Erin, a young woman who has fled the servitude of a brothel and taken to the streets. Garrett, seeing her skill in pickpocketing, takes her under his wing and is determined to make her a master thief. But Erin is quick to kill and actually seems to enjoy the act, so after several years of pilfering partnership the two part ways.

It does kind of remind me of the ending of T: DS. Although that was a little girl, not a prostitute.
