Maybe since I don't have any but.... well, those hands just look huge and distracting to me. They seem to take up way more screen space than necessary.

And T3's ending delivered the perfect opportunity for a new character, while keeping Garrett as her mentor.
You could've had Garrett stay in the game as an NPC, while making the new character into a more assassiny type or whatever without changing the old Garrett. Continuity would have been preserved, and everyone would've been happy.

But noooooooooooooo
Yeah, it seemed like such a nobrainer to me. Garrett's arc ended so neatly and all, can't have that can we?

Shiiiiet. It was the perfect set-up for a newshit game, the new main character being a woman and all.

In the second screen the hands look kinda weird too. The way he holds his fingers. Who the fuck would hold an object like this? His left hand is just hovering behind the top part of that bottle-like thing with weirdly spaced out fingers and not touching it. Lolwat.

It's probably because of the minuscule FOV, but aye, he's pretty much holding them up to his face.

Kinda like this but even closer to the face.

Having the girl from Thief 3 ending be a playable character instead of Garrett would make fanboy rage even worse. Instead of "leave Garrett in Thief 4 ALONEEEE" we would have "omg no Garrett in Thief 4? MEGAFAIL"

As I said, you could keep Garrett as her mentor, therefore keeping the old Garrett in the game without changing his original personality and character, while being completely free to model the girl in any way you'd like. They could make her into a more assassin-y character without problems, the young one who thinks her mentor's methods are outdated or something. Everyone would be happy. Garrett would still be there and the player character could be some reckless bastard without making Garrett into something he is not.

Based on where these shit graphics are headed, I predict that in the future we will have TO monitors instead of RGB.

As much as I wanna cut them some slack I'm inclined to agree. Thief 1 was the lowest tech looking version of the City (And looks lower tech than these Thiaf pictures) and it was low tech in a more "Magic replacing technology" way. Thief 2 fairly dramatically changed the look of the City with even more "Magical technology" from the Mechanists, and then in Thief 3 the City looked a bit more like the first game with some remnants of Mechanist shit still around but in definite decline.

By comparison Thiaf seems to be going for more steampunk/Dishonored vibe.

"We've come up with a new dynamic leaning system that automatically leans when Garrett is hiding behind 'cover'. We also found that leaning forward wasn't really that useful so we've removed it."...."Playtesters struggled with manual blackjacking so now you just need to be about 15 feet away from somebody and a prompt comes up allowing players to perform visceral takedown maneuvers.".... "In the old games, you just right clicked an item and it went in your inventory with no fanfare. Now we've placed motion captured animations to properly show the molestation of loot. These vary from 15 to 40 seconds."... "Being able to drop items could lead to players with special needs accidentally losing track of important mission critical loot or keys. So we removed it."..."To clamber up onto ledges we instituted a realistic stamina system that requires players to level up in the online multi-player mode (DLC required) to climb faster. It also has a unique and immersive QTE where you jam on one button for 20 seconds."..."Expert difficulty was way too draconian what with no killing and some levels even requiring you to not even knock enemies out. We came up with a 1998™ mode (DLC required) that only allows you to kill a maximum of 20 guards per level. This should give those TTLG poindexters a real hardcore™ challenge."..."Players can now try to Spook™ a level. Spooking™ has players see how many people they can kill, thus creating Spooks™."

Hahaha, I thought that was serious for a second. They could very much include some bullshit like that in the game though.

"Receive thy pounding".

That's what I will be shouting at the future THIAF retards when they complain about the old games, as I chase them through a badly lit cathedral, furiously hammering away with a croquet club.

Only if you don't play it at the highest difficulty, which is the only proper way to play Thief. That said, getting in sword fights with more then one guard was occasionally entertaining.
Once my objectives are achieved, I usually try to get as many guards chasing me as possible while running to the "finish" point. It's funny having the Mission Completed screen come right after getting hacked to pieces.

What's with this trend of every. single. decent franchise getting raped and, well, dishonored, to a point beyond recognition? They are doing something different altogether, but not entirely enough, it has to be a fucking retcon / reboot / you name it. Or is the process of inventing a new title, or protagonist, so crippling to their feeble minds they cannot move around it?

It's almost like those conspiracies and theories to unmake the world/universe by destroying its pillars/towers/symbols that make up for the foundations one by one and then reshape it into dystopian twisted reality.

EDIT:
Also apparently the style of architecture and clothing is now more late 19th century like.

Well, Dishonored was such a success because it was (relatively) original, so I bet we can achieve the exact same success and make the lightning strike the same place by ripping everything from it that made it unique! What can possibly go wrong?
It's about marketing. The old-school method of making something, selling it, establishing a brand, gathering a fanbase, building on that fanbase through quality and creativity, and thus earning money over time and for the long-term - yeah, that's all shit. The new thing is to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible, and if that burns the IP, so what? You'll just ditch it and get a new one.

So, a company decides it wants to sell a copy/paste Dishounored/Assassins Creed game to the casuals. But breaking into a market already dominated so heavily already with an original IP is hard work. Hard work which translates to a large outlay of money for marketing, since you have to make people aware of your copy/paste, and then have to somehow convince people those that your copy/paste is worth their time and money. But if, instead, you slap the skin of an old and famous IP on that game, you get a bunch of FREE publicity. All the gaming rags mention it. People debate the old vs the new. Everyone who has talked up the old games over the years has spread a bunch of interest in the series amongst people who never played it. And so on and so on. All of that publicity at absolutely NO OUTLAY OF MONEY FROM YOU!

Plus, some of the old school fans of the franchise will purchase the game too, even though you're not actually making a game for them, which means even more money for you!!!

So you get free publicity and some free extra sales from the old schools, while you take a dip into the huge money market of the casuals. All by just slapping a different name on your product. What's not to love?

Thing is, what made the Thief setting unique was the combination of a medieval atmosphere with dark-ages like occult stuff and Hammerite and later Mechanist steampunk technology, the visual design of which was done in a way that didn't break the medieval atmosphere but enhanced it. There wasn't even a big contrast, the themes all fit perfectly into each other, and language was used effectively to reinforce the setting, with Hammerites being all faux olde-English ('Twas probably just the sweet tingling of a boiler) and pagans speaking in their weird, slightly childish language.

Now they apparently took away most of the medieval atmosphere - the clothing looks more Victorian as does some of the architecture, there is more "modern" tech (like typewriters) that wouldn't really fit into the setting of TG and T2, I wonder how they want to implement the Hammerites into that setting. Previously, technology was something that only the Hammerite and Mechanist orders worked with, and when anyone wanted to have some tech stuff for his home they'd hire one of the orders to install it. Now tech seems to be more commonplace and not something that is an exclusive thing of those Builder-worshippers, which definitely trivializes the role the Hammerites have in the setting.

Oh gods I hope they're not going to do any bad things to the good old Hammerites. :(
