Hello there!
We hope you enjoyed last week’s deep dive into the first Legendary Lord, Astragoth Ironhand, from our upcoming Forge of Chaos Dwarfs DLC for Total War: WARHAMMER III. This week we turn to our next cunning combatant: Drazhoath the Ashen!
Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs will be arriving in Total War: WARHAMMER III as part of Update 3.0 on April 13th. You can pre-order it here – and if you do so by April 20th, you can grab 10% off the launch price!
Ready? Let’s do this.

We always keep a close eye on our official feedback channels to ensure WARHAMMER III is heading in the right direction, so please use the links below to make your voice heard on everything Total War.

DRAZHOATH THE ASHEN

Drazhoath the Ashen, the Sorcerer Prophet of Hashut, is the Lord of the Black Fortress and the commander of the fell Legion of Azgorh. His mastery of magic and engineering grew stronger throughout his time in exile at the hands of Astragoth Ironhand, and now he seeks a return to the fold of Zharr-Naggrund.
chd_drazhoath_01.jpg

Being equally as proficient with his axe as with sorcery, Drazhoath is a formidable presence on the battlefield, be he on foot or atop his trusty Bale Taurus, Cinderbreath.
He’s equally as daunting outside of battle, too, being an industrial juggernaut and the best in class when it comes to generating armaments and developing settlements.

NARRATIVE

The Chaos Dwarfs are a merciless race of killers and torturers. After straying far from their kin, the Dwarfs to the east were cut off from the western lands during the Great Catastrophe (the emergence of Chaos into the Known World). They sought refuge in Hashut, the bull god of fire, greed and tyranny, who laid his dreadful blessings upon them.
Corrupted with access to powerful magic, hellish forces and the fires deep within the earth, the Chaos Dwarfs demonstrate their industrial prowess with hell-factories spanning miles across the Known World. They’ve engineered infernal war-machines unlike anything the mortal world has ever seen, with Hellcannons so bloodthirsty they must be chained to the battlefield to prevent them charging into the conflict.
All of this is in search of one thing: The Blood of Hashut. To acquire it, the Chaos Dwarfs must build the Great Drill of Hashut. The Chaos Dwarfs must collect and corrupt four Dwarfen artefacts. They intend to bind these to Daemons, forging them into components required for the construction of this Hellish drill. Once complete, they intend to dig into the fabric of reality and breach Hashut’s domain.
But… the Dwarfs hold grudges. They aren’t happy about their precious heirlooms being tainted with the forces of Chaos. And they will seek vengeance.

HELL-FORGE

The Chaos Dwarfs are well known for creating some of the most nightmarish machines of war known to man, and they never cease to improve their tools of destruction. Never satisfied, never satiated, the Dawi-Zharr’s infernal industry will stop at nothing until it forges the mightiest military possible, regardless of the sacrifice demanded by this roaring fire.
While powerful, there are limits on the number of available Chaos Dwarfs and other units beyond the labourers at any one time. This cap can be raised through the further spending of armaments to craft additional weapons and armour in the Hell-Forge.
As the unit cap grows, so too does the Hell-smiths’ proficiency, unlocking further upgrades.
When the Chaos Dwarfs can’t build their units wide, they most certainly build them tall.

INFERNAL GUARD

chd_infernal_castellan_concept.jpg

Among the most legendary warrior-cults within the Chaos Dwarf Empire, The Infernal Guard has the sworn task of defending the citadel from any that would assail it, and to exert the will of the Lord of the Black Fortress – without question and to the death.
Stricken by shame and humiliation, the prideful nature of the Chaos Dwarfs eludes them. As such their faces are sealed shut behind iron and bronze masks, only to be torn from their flesh once they achieve great glory, leaving the faces of scarred warriors visible once again.
As high-tier troops of the Chaos Dwarfs, the Infernal Guard can wield a variety of weapons in battle including great weapons, an axe and shield combo and fearsome Fireglaives. Both relentless and cruel, these warriors will stop at nothing in their hunt for redemption.
chd_infernal_guard_01.jpg

K’DAAI FIREBORN & DESTROYERS

The Chaos Dwarfs certainly have a daemonic side. Nowhere is it better illustrated than through the monstrous K’daai; Chaos Daemons that were enslaved and bound in iron war armour. They are the Scions of Fire, and they serve the Daemonsmiths of the Chaos Dwarfs.
chd_fireborn_01-scaled.jpg

First up, we have the K’daai Fireborn – mighty daemonic fire-elementals, forged from daemon essence and the hot magma beneath the surface. They are mindless creatures of destruction, made too powerful by their creators’ desire for power, and are the stuff of legend.
As monstrous infantry, the K’daai Fireborn launch flaming attacks upon their prey, using their blazing bodies to increase their own physical resistance while reflecting damage back at enemies. Their intensity grows stronger the longer they spend in melee. But use them wisely, for the brightest flames often burn out the fastest – once shattered, the runes that maintain their Unbreakable attribute are rendered inert, leaving them susceptible to Demonic Instability.
Those mad enough to crave more need look no further than the K’daai Destroyers – giant constructs of burning hatred that’s fueled by the blood of sacrifices.
chd_fireborn_concept-scaled.jpg

As the biggest and most expensive unit the Chaos Dwarfs could ever conjure, these monsters are a rare but terrifying sight. With Anti-Large and Wallbreaker capabilities, the K’daai Destroyer lets nothing stand in its way. Its size allows it to charge across the battlefield, sending units flying as it shreds those who stray too close.

ULRIKA MAGDOVA (FREE DLC)

Last week we took a look at Gorduz Backstabber, the sneaky Legendary Hero arriving as a part of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC. However, he won’t be the only heroic addition.
Ulrika_a.jpg

Transformed into a vampire against her will, Ulrika Magdova of Kislev is the ultimate hybrid combatant. Proficient in melee combat, deadly at range, and a spellcaster, Ulrika can fill any role on the battlefield, boasting the best traits from Kislev and the Vampire Counts.
She bites.
Ulrika Magdova is included as a free addition to the Kislev and Empire races of WARHAMMER III in Update 3.0. A free CA Account is required to claim her. Once that’s done, Ulrika will be available for recruitment in the campaign after completing her personal quest chain.
You can go ahead and create an account right now to ensure you’re ready to go the moment she’s available. There’s more information about CA Accounts right here.

Lokhir is pretty fun with his new start position. Even got to ally those Undead Cathayans so I have Undead outpost units.

Yeah and he is probably the strongest DE mechanics wise, he really snowballs fast with each port you conquer.
I grow weary micromanaging after 15 Black Arks and 3 land armies. Nothing could stand against my corsair and shade swarms at that point.

You'd think Alith Anar would be the least cringe high elf LL, but nope. Helves are extremely boring in general.

If I like Total War and want a fantasy version, but I think Warhammer's retarded, what're the odds of me liking Total Warhammer?

Norsca is a fuck now. Worse than Lustria. Kislev from the south and other Chaos factions from the north. You don't even have time to go raiding because you're always fighting a two front war. Holy hell.

The fact that every elf/empire/brettonian AI can just casually sail up to norsca and destroy you really sucks. There's really no way around it, and Noscan settlements are so far apart that defending them is nigh impossible. Of course they are totally happy to leave their homelands defenseless for like 20 turns as their full stack is up there razing your settlements.

There are mods for that iirc, waging war to closer enemies first

ZHATAN THE BLACK

Zhatan.png

Zhatan the Black, the Commander of the Tower of Zharr, is a servant to Ghorth the Cruel, providing bountiful labour and sacrifice. But don’t let that distract you from his own propensity for unending violence and suffering.
Zhatan’s high weaponry demand means the workshops can barely keep up with his bloody expeditions. There is method in his madness, however – for the fiercest fires forge the hardest steel…
chd_zhatan_concept_a.jpg

As a melee-first Lord, Zhatan can smash bones to bits on foot, soar through the skies mounted atop a Lammasu, scorch the lands from a Great Taurus or pin prospective new labourers with his Sadistic Snare net. Alternatively he can utilise an intensifying aura of Boundless Cruelty to strike fear into the hearts of those who oppose him. After all, the only thing louder than the screams of his broken foes is Zhatan’s gloating laughter.
Armed with The Obsidian Axe, the Armour of Gazrakh and the Chaos Rune Shield to enhance his combat abilities yet further, Zhatan is one cruel customer.

FLAMES, TRAINS & WARMACHINES

chd_iron_daemon_01.png

The Chaos Dwarfs’ commitment to unparalleled engineering is well established, and one of their most unique units on the battlefield is, of course, their trains.
The Dawi-Zharr use trains to conquer territory in a way never before seen in Total War: WARHAMMER III, chugging around the battlefield on their menacing locomotives.
As for the locomotives themselves, there’s the Iron Daemon, a smoke-belching powerhouse that blasts shrapnel at enemy forces when loaded with a Steam Cannonade. Then we have the Skullcracker configuration that crushes fortifications with ease thanks to the hissing, grinding arcane-mechanical conglomeration of iron hammers, hacking blades and brutal picks.
chd_iron_daemon_concept-scaled.jpg

chd_skullcracker_concept-scaled.jpg

While the Dreadquake Mortar can be used as an independent artillery piece, it can also be towed into battle by both the Iron Daemon and Skullcracker locomotives. Being among the largest and most effective siege weaponry deployed by the Chaos Dwarfs, this mighty bombard will rend the earth and smash fortifications to dust. Powered by immense steam pressure, the Dreadquake Mortar is a slow-firing juggernaut that must be loaded with unique (and hugely powerful) shells to prevent self-destruction.
chd_iron_daemon_01_back.png

But that’s not all!
The Chaos Dwarfs come with two independent artillery units:
  • The Magma Cannon: A divine combination of artillery and furnace, it was originally conceived to take down the ravening Trolls and other adjacent horrors that multiply in the Dark Lands, but has since found a new purpose on the battlefield. Take cover. Or better yet, run away. Really fast.
  • The Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher: A diabolical contraption and one of the most destructive weapons ever created, with its munitions housing an unruly fire-spirit harvested from the cinders of Hashut’s sacrificial ashes. Launching shells high into the sky, the rockets from this beast will burst in mid-air, showering those below with fire and destruction. And let us not forget the alternative shells, Demolition Rockets, that explode upon contact with foes. This hulking piece of artillery is named for its horrific shrieks that emerge from within its grizzly innards. Although they’re nothing in comparison to the screams of those that face it, of course.

CONVOYS

The Chaos Dwarfs have access to a somewhat familiar Convoy system, letting them send out armaments in return for riches. Along the way they can, and most likely will, get dragged into all manner of scrapes and battles as those nearby attempt to pillage their wares.
But fear not, as the Chaos Dwarfs’ main resource – Labour, Raw Materials or Treasury – are also up for grabs on these expeditions, helping expand the already expansive economy that the Dawi-Zharr have at their disposal.

CHAOS DWARF WARRIORS

chd_warrior_01.png

Clad in iron armour, the Chaos Dwarf Warriors are the foot soldiers of the Dark Land’s very own Industrial Empire.
In addition to their skills as either a craftsman or an artificer, these warriors are disciplined, resourceful… and furious. As a mid-tier unit from the Chaos Dwarfen roster, these grumpy fellows are likely to swarm the battlefield en masse, bringing a selection of weapons in tow.
Whether they’re holding the line with axes and shields, crushing armoured foes with great weapons, or gunning down the opposition with their blunderbusses, the Chaos Dwarf Warriors spread dread among whoever’s unfortunate enough to encounter them.

UP NEXT

And that’s a wrap on our trilogy of introductions to the Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs campaign pack!
But the train isn’t running out of track anytime soon, as we’ve got another showcase on the way where you’ll get to see Zhatan the Black in action, and we’ll be back next week with yet MORE announcements!
We’ll of course have a full suite of patch notes dropping alongside Update 3.0 and Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs, as well as another maddening surprise or two to go with it. Keep a close eye on all our official channels for further details, and we’ll see you on the battlefield!

I wonder what kind of surprises they have on mind! New regiments of renown or something else, as the vampire lady hero ain't really a surprise anymore?

I think it's that Mirrors of Madness crap that got leaked. Seems to be something similar to what the laboratory was for WH2.

I predict moving labour from one province to another will become tedious and overly micromanage-y. The music is also becoming very generic, there are better ways to simulate industrial noises with the orchestra and it will be more interesting. Like this f.e. -

I know it's not exactly about WH3, but I guess it shows where most of CA's devs went and why, besides being a crap initial release, work on more content is going so slow.

The guy has a channel about European martial arts, so I'm guessing Medieval 3 is incoming?

Isn't there a cycle between full game - saga - full game - saga going on? What step are we on now?

Oh God I hope no. I'm tired of slightly High/Late Medieval Europe. There is so many eras and places to discover come on!
Which one is guaranteed not to fail? Troy, despite being the best contemporary Total War, flopped hard; Three Kingdoms allegedly performed poorly, at least poorly enough for them to prematurely cut its support; Thrones of Britannia is set in an early-ish Medieval era and is considered the worst of the bunch; Rome Remastered barely scrapes 1k players a month although it also is one of the better TWs out there atm. CA even got a mini-heart attack witnessing WH3's disastrous launch. Soooo what era do you propose they do? I know nothing of this has anything to do with historical period, but good luck convincing CA that's the case. I'm sure they'll develop the safest TWs possible from now on. And tbh, I don't necessarily blame them for it because they did try to do something else numerous times and failed each attempt.
