Wait, so Greasus gets his unique weapon without a quest battle? Are there even quest battles in the game?

So ogres need to watch food as well as attrition and chaos corruption when in the realm of chaos. What a fun mechanic.

Food is incredibly easy to manage, though, and allows you to make a meagre offering for +20% movement so that you may zip around the chaos realms and be done in no time.

So, bought this as soon as preorders opened because I was expecting Chaos Dwarves. Anyone knows of any news on this front, like from data mining on files from the game?

Easy solution to the problem - remove spells that cause (direct) damage.

C'mon man. It has to at least have some semblance of the tabletop Warhammer.

Apparently the game runs on DX12 by default due to a bug, you can go back to DX11 by adding -dx11 as a start string in Steam.

They removed the "search ruins" option I just noticed. Not that I really liked it but seems weird.

Sieges are now pretty much Tower Popamole. Bring Furies to destroy a tower, by the time they're done with the first another one is already up and running again. :hmmm:

More thoughts after sleeping on it. Technically, there is a fourth mechanic when playing as Cathay - attacks on the Bastion. It's not so much a mechanic as a thing that happens periodically and has its own UI element to show you when it will happen. When you are playing as Chairwoman Miao, it makes sense, she's the castellan of the Bastion. When playing as her brother, however, it kind of seems not your area of expertise. You start way to the south in a desert and have a bajillion other things to worry about, but that UI element still clogs up space and there are huge popups (seriously, porn sites don't assault you with as many popups) saying "THE BASTION IS GOING TO GET ATTACKED SOON". I'm like "ok, what do you want me to do about it?", I'm not within walking distance of the gates. Zhao should have other mechanics, both because of lore reasons and because of his starting position. It seems like they created his sister first and just copy-pasted her shit onto him and now it doesn't make sense. It's also not clear what the game expects me to do when playing as him. It gives me quite a different starting location, yet it wants/encourages me to be at the locations his sister is at. Everyone going for the demon souls is bad, like the Vortex campaign was bad. They didn't learn a thing.

The other thing I want to mention is how the game disincentivizes sieging, especially on very hard campaign difficulty. It's a combination of the AI being able to field quite large armies, the new map layouts, and the annoying tower defense they've got crammed in there. The attackers are at quite a disadvantage due to the map layouts. Line-of-sight obstructions, crammed corridors, towers attacking constantly, barricades stopping your movement. Those things are manageable when against a similarly-sized army, but when you are outnumbered two to one and even more they become a problem. So the more advantageous thing to do is start sieging the city and let the AI attack you because they have the numerical advantage (and they will always attack you in this circumstance), which means you fight outside the city as a field battle, making it muuuuuuuch easier and painless to destroy them even with a relatively small army. It's then very easy to mop up the garrison with an auto-resolve. So much for the siege rework.

Chaos Dorfs, Dogs of War and a Nagash faction are pretty much guaranteed as DLC. CA has only passively aggressively written off Araby and Nippon AFAIK.

Do we really need feudal Japan in this? Would it really be so much different than Cathay? I'm sure the first race DLC will be Chaos Dwarves, then probably Dogs of War, but after that is a mystery. Did they add new landmass in WH2 to accommodate new races? I don't remember. Also, where are they going to put Araby? Remember that all DLC has to be incorporated in the WH3 map somehow. Unless they don't give a fuck anymore and release DLC only for the Immortal Empires map that requires you to buy 2 other games.

It'd be distinctive enough if they'd focus on Sengoku Japan's social structure and I'd wager that most players would enjoy the aesthetics of that period being represented in-game. It'd be to Cathay what Bretonnia is to the Empire, with a general population of grimderply oppressed peasants being ruled over by a delusional warrior aristocracy (i.e. a caricature of historical samurai ethics and literary tropes on steroids, akin to the caricature of knightly ethics and literary tropes that define Bretonnian high society). And just as Bretonnia has its neat Arthurian & Celtic-inspired stuff, Nippon can have its share of neat Shinto-inspired stuff.

I'm sure they are planning to milk this game for at least 5 years like they did with WH2 and they will run out of races very soon. Seriously, they have 2 "legit" options left, Chaos Dwarves and Dogs of War. They have to put in Nagash and Neferata at one point, but they'll probably be considered a Vampire Counts lord pack. What happens after that? Probably the races they said they'll never put in the game.

This map is in the game files and it is literally called WH3_COMBINED_MAP.DDS (aka Immortal Empires)

They already planned IND and Kuresh as you can see

The game is good enough for dicking around a bit and having some fun with the new races and units, but the campaign, while looking good on paper, is an exercise in tediousness thats somehow almost as bad as vortex. You can get a maximum of two souls per rift opening (much more likely to get only one), the AI gets absolutely retarded boni while in the Chaos Realm which means they can basically zig-zag right through it and steal the soul from under your nose, kicking you out of the realm in the process. You experience everything the game has to offer by about turn 70 and after that its just boring. No need to either buy or pirate this, as long as Immortal empires is not released really.

Chaos realms concept is interesting, one problem I have is that there is no boon for defeating the army guarding the demon prince's soul thus claiming the soul. Right now it feels extremely punishing with no rewards at all. I do enjoy the campaign being a general downward spiral however, with demons fucking up everything and there being attrition everywhere. I similarly enjoyed that "survival" aspect of Attila Total War. In this campaign you cannot expand much, between having to defend from chaos incursions and having to spare your best army to go to chaos realms, as well as general corruption taking place. It is definitely something, I'll probably keep playing it occasionally but I'd really prefer if claiming the daemon soul gave something else beyond the "win objective".
