Bros, Lords of Change are unreal. On VH/L, 13 Lords of Change defended against 10 Cathay armies spread across 2 battles, which included Miao Ying, Zhao Ming, and mainly composed of high tier Cathay units (Terracotta Sentinels, Celestial Dragon warriors, crane gunners, etc.). I didn't have a full army or an optimal setup of heroes with keymaster trait; nor do I have amazing micro. Furthermore, Lords of Change are bugged and do not rank up beyond level 3, so these lacked the max redline trait and additional stats. Nonetheless, these things ground several armies to dust with Kairos casting regrowth occasionally.

Yet, I still do not understand why. Their stats/traits don't seem to explain to just how durable these things are.

Not sure how many.

It's just... there's not much to say at this point that hasn't been said already.
And now people are waiting for the "real" game to come out and/or patches to fix the damn thing and/or mods.
In its current state, the game just isn't fun. Too much broken shit. I haven't even played all the factions yet because what I've seen of those that I played was more than enough to convince me to wait.

The game is currently very much on a "wait to see what happens" for lots of people.

How you can have such a surefire success on your hands and bungle it as much as CA has is truly a modern day miracle.
Praise Ranald!

It's Rome 2 all over again. They had the chance to show they care by patching it quickly and missed it. A patch with minor and begrudging changes in maybe a month is too little, too late.

I finished my vh Cathay campaign and I am seriously fed up with fighting stonehorns. My next campaign will have to wait until 1.1.

Kairos Vh/L is done. I didn’t use changer of ways, since I thought I would need to conserve tomes for the end game. In hindsight, totally unnecessary measure. Would have just made it faster.

I am torn between Zhao Ming and the Tzar/third Kislev lord. I find myself wanting to play Bretonnia or Dark Elves in this campaign instead.

Also, I read on Reddit that alliances actually make your allied AI weaker. That’s some bullshit, if true.

The game has a massive anti-player bias, so yes, allies are largely worthless. That's why you get an endless Chaos Tide when playing Kislev but when you're the Daemon Prince all the other Chaos factions turn into retards.

I don't think so, mine stick around just fine. The issue is that playable AI factions always cheat in autoresolve vs. unplayable, but your minor AI factions will fight other minor AI factions just fine.

I read that too. Still, I may experiment with it on another playthrough and strictly maintain non-aggression pacts.

I'm pretty sure its the playable lord/major faction boost because right now Snikch is in Cathay and he gets absolutely shit on vs. in WH2 he almost always takes over half the map unless he loses to the greentide. I even gave him free settlements as Tzeentch (in the awful red areas where they are hard to hold) to make him as a border holder vs. Zhao Ming and he completely shit the bed.

You are probably right Average Manatee. It would be such a trap if alliances did that.

Your post also had me thinking if Cathay is just a bad match up for Skaven. While I do not view Cathay as strong, it does seem to have similar tools (jezzails/crane gunners, artillery, magic, both disposable and mid tier infantry, monstrous units, etc). In hindsight, maybe I fail at Cathay, because I was trying to play them like Skaven.

Not sure how much any of that matters for AI vs. AI since it's all autoresolve. Snikch and Skaven in general normally wins because of their ability to ambush on the attack and spam endless trash armies. Seriously in WH2 he'll have 3-4 full stacks of skavenslaves running around by turn 30 and he'll always know exactly how far they can all force march to be next to your army when he goes for an ambush.

I remember a time in WH2 where the minor factions didn't have penalty against major factions and it created very interesting situations. Then they removed it...

Also, i read somewhere in the total war forum that if you do a military alliance the AI will lose its "cheating bonus" (don't know if true or not).

That just seems like a carry-over of some features I saw in vanilla Rome 2. No-name factions wiped out the major ones and tiny allied Athens stayed tiny for 50+ turns until I lost the savefile.

Eh it is also something that I always mod in when playing WH2. In some way it makes game more interesting. Minor faction still get other penalty regardless iirc, so having at least the auto resolve logic to be balanced shouldn't make minor factions suddenly becoming too strong.
