I liked this game a lot and I am sad that there's never gonna be a sequel to it.

Maybe not "never". Did you ever think, past 2005, that there would be another Baldur's Gate? Or could anyone predict Fallout: New Vegas once Bethesda got hold of the franchise? Or that EA would willingly give up its monopoly on Star Wars games? Or that the same publisher behind Hitman could fuck up another Thief game so badly? Stranger things have already occurred in the industry.

Am I the only one who wasn't interested in more than a single specific path due to the ways in which the factions and important NPCs are portrayed? In my case, I quite liked the Disfavored as a faction while actively disliking the other factions and their associated paths (mainly Scarlet Chorus and Rebels, with the Anarchist path just being 'meh' given that Bleden Mark doesn't have enough depth as a character and embarking upon his path seems quite schizophrenic both from an in-character perspective and how it plays out in terms of interacting with the preestablished zones shared with the other paths).

Seems to me that the devs have only achieved a shorter game through the game's branching design while not necessarily increasing its replay value.

Mandalore’s review is pretty spot on; great magic system, interesting setting and characters but samey combat encounters, clearly unfinished and no conclusive ending to the story
Such a shame, I enjoyed it much more than Pillars of Eternity

There's no conclusive end since it was only the first part of a larger story. Once again, people - they're not even pretending they're not ripping off The Black Company series. I can guarantee you that, if there was a next game, once you defeat Kyros it would turn out she was holding back an even greater evil at bay. Probably her fucking husband, just like in the novels.

But can you fuck Kyros?

In the novels, one of the main characters becomes her husband, though that's cutting a VERY long story short.

Also, one mod I would SORELY like to be made is one that allows you to visit all the locations within a single playthrough. It's ALMOST possible when doing the Rebel path if you finagle the game enough, but still, I'd like a more direct method.

Yes, that was the joke.

And terrible engine, not to speak about the unspeakable...

RTwP

Imagine this in a Realms Beyond engine with enough enemy variety and good encounter design.

You're suggesting that games should go back to being completely linear.

On the hardest difficulty it starts off incredibly challenging, requiring a special build or lots of cheesing. By the mid game you are an untouchable god who cannot die. I imagine that on the lower difficulties you just start off invulnerable and become even more godlike.

The game is only challenging up to the vendrian wall, because the rebel are the opponent with the strongest skillset (load of CC and some dmg spikes) and you begin with few defensive tool. Both chorus and disfavored strategy revolved around attrition war (via either dot or self-healing), which they will always loose, you just have way more skill to cycle trough.

I didn't even realize the setting was supposed to be in the Bronze Age until I read about it elsewhere. Nothing about it makes sense or aligns well, most of it is left completely unexplored. It's your usual run of the mill globohomo bullshit setting.

We can see that they tried to aimed for a bronze age aesthetic , but it's just that, apart from the iron thing, they did not pay attention to the rest. Literacy is widespread, Verse casually mention trebuchet... Lots of things like which make no sense for the settings.

I'm only halfways through the whole series, so please no spolier toward anything happening in khatovar :). I can see the resemblance between the lady and her miniions and Kyros and her Archons , but it's quite a stretch to call-it a ripoff . There is no status quo before the campaign, and the tier have no chance to defeat Kyros force from the beginning to the start.

Even the aesthetic doesn't fit. It obviously doesn't have to be "real world bronze age culture but with x" but at least take into consideration what a bronze age society was or wasn't capable of. There are statues and buildings and equipment around that simply wouldn't be possible. For example FULL FUCKING PLATE ARMOR.

Dude, there's a guy who can destroy a continent by writing "fuck you" on a piece of paper. Heroes become immortal because people believe they are. I'm sure a couple of aesthetic inconsistencies can be easily forgiven and justified.

Yes, a fantasy setting with high powered magic can excuse everything but then whats the point of setting the game in ANY specific time period? If you want to make it "XYZ Age" it has to have restrictions.

Nope, I'm suggesting that non-linearity should be modular rather than the sum of several linear paths diverging from a common introductory chapter. Which is not to say that the latter can't work in itself (The Witcher 2's split between Roche's path and Yorveth's being a prime example of it being done successfully), but I don't think that Tyranny managed to pull it off properly.

It's up to personal taste though, but I found both the overplayed edgelordism of the Scarlet Chorus and the unironic portrayal of the southern natives as noble savages to be distasteful and not worth exploring through dedicated playthroughs.

Come on, now you're just criticizing the game for the sake of it. You can't really be saying that you have to either (a) perfectly adhere to every single aspect of the time period you chose or (b) not choose any time period at all to inspire your setting. Also, your criticism is valid for every single setting ever created, because picking only certain aspects/characteristics/restrictions of an age is what designers always do. It's not like settings based on Middle Ages include EVERYTHING from that period.

The developers quoted the novel series as part of their inspiration. Kyros = The Lady; The Archons = The Ten Who Were Taken, just to name a few direct inspirations. There's no shame in that - the Myth series was also heavily influenced by the first two books in particular.

Huh, Tyranny is a blatant Black Company ripoff?
And why do you say that like it's a bad thing?

The very short names of places like Azure, Stalwart, Vellum etc. are also inspired by The Black Company, which also had very similar, extremely common-place names for locations (e.g. Lords, Charm, Roses ...).

That said, Myth did everything better with respect to inspiration. I first read The Black Company roughly 20 years after I first played Myth, and even then, everything about the book felt very familiar.

Tranny is the turd that just won't flush. It was riding the wave of woke girl power shit character writing, dialogue and setting. Its failure (or rather lack of impact) is no surprise and a blessing really. The only good things were the magic system and the amount of C&C they tried to implement.

Glen Cook would probably cry if he knew people were talking about Tranny in the same breath as his masterpieces, but I'm sure he has the good fortune to never even know about this abortion.
