Been playing this for a few hours and beginning to doubt my choice of trying to be impartial towards the Disfavored/Chorus. Is "neutral judge" even viable in this game, story-wise? I thought that was the whole point of being an agent of this Tunon chap, but the game seems to be trying to push me towards picking a side.

Four sides (with a couple of places where you can switch allegiances) are available - the Disfavored, the Scarlet Chorus, the Rebels and the Independent path.

How can one into independent path? Basically, you have to favor one faction over the other to build loyalty and then give the command to the other faction? Or is there another way?

You have to pick the [Betray Alliance] option when you're attacking the Fortress at the end of Act 1. I've also seen the option elsewhere in other chapters of the game, but I don't know what happens if you, for example, suddenly decide to go Independent while you've been supporting the Scarlet Chorus, or the Rebels, the entire game beforehand.

Tyranny is is a much MUCH better game than Pillars of Eternity. It kept my interest until the end, special items were interesting ( although too abundant), dialogues well written, engaging combat but difficulty could be even higher, interesting characters/ world building and replayability.

I hope this game will outsell the shit named PoE so they abandon the franchise and continue to make sequels for Tyranny only.

Welp, finally done with the game. I like what was there. The setting and characters were interesting enough, took till about lethian's crossing and the magebane helm to really pick up for me though.

It was really fun bullying sirin. You could really feel the sorrow in her voice when you came to talk to her with high fear. Just kinda wish that persisted through her other dialogue options though. Its really jarring to have her sounding like she wants to die and then sounding like she actually still has her soul and excitement when being added into the party. Really took away from the impact of beating her down. In a similar vein I wish you could talk to the companions more, especially about big events that just happened. Once you exhaust their dialogue thats kind of it for them except at some minor junctions.

Edit:
forgot to mention that sirin goes insane in like most of her endings. I loved that. I liked most of the companion endings in general to, especially eb and verse's loyalty ones.

Finished in 35 hours. I repeat again that whoever said this is 25 hour game is full of shit or skipping content. I had two spires left to unlock and several unvisited locations still.

Really enjoyed the setting and atmosphere of the game, and I hope they make a sequel and expand on some of the mechanics like edicts, your own spires etc.

Also, do the arder settings affect mob composition like in PoE?

Too bad we probably won't get a lot of extra content since the game is even more niche than PoE

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I'm guessing that we will at least get one expansion. This is after all, paradox we are talking about.

Finished it. The ending is really bad and unlogical. One of the most powerful characters according to the lore submits without any reason and the last decision is forced and might go contrary to the choices done during the game. But the rest of the adventure was good. I liked the combat better than POE even if it becomes too easy and repetitive at the end. And the loot becomes stupid at the end with tons of useless artifacts and masterwork items. Archons are a joke in hard. I crushed them in one try without using any combos....But at least I did not have to force myself to continue (unlike POE), the companions are good (they could still be expanded) and the writing is decent.

"I did not have to force myself to continue like in PoE" seems to be popular opinion around. This alone makes it better than PoE.

They're likely going by their memories of 1.x.

And right to do so. I know you're a big fan of 3.0, but who fucking cares about patch that comes after everyone had time to play 6 times.

That if they can force themselves to play again.

They only have themselves to blame for not being as patient as I am.

Only because Tyranny was piggybacking off the work done on PoE. It spent less time in development.

I take that last part back, it actually spent four more months in development than Pillars 1.0. Yet still cost much less to make, roughly half the content, and a fraction of the bestiary. :M

Age of Empires II had a patch last year or so. Did you wait to play that until 2015 as well?

Expectation is for game to work as intended on 1.0. Comparing relase state to release state is the only honest way.

 Release date RPGs might as well be called Early Access. The developers only release them in that state due to lack of money. Tyranny literally had two acts cut from its release state, I doubt Obsidian was perfectly content with that arrangement.

In a perfect world, sure, but most complex games, even older ones like Fallout, often require extensive patching.

Age of Decadence had several patches which changed things and added new content, yet few people here complain about that - but somehow PoE is the devil for doing the same.

Infinitron Occam's Razor would suggest that those cutscene slides were repurposed into ending slide artwork after the acts themselves were cut so that they wouldn't go to waste. The idea that ending slides would be (intentionally or erroneously) referred to as Act IV/V and then just Act IV is too convoluted to be the simplest explanation. As noted by a Steam review

There's not a doubt in my mind that act 3 was planned to be much longer as the game gives you a whole new piece of UI with massive effects on the world, a new resource to manage it with, the ability to research improvements for it, and then the game ends about 30 minutes after it's first use.

They couldn't even be bothered to make portraits for NPCs, but create a GUI for a mechanic you'll have access to for approximately 30 minutes, sure, great use of time.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
just finished the game

1. where is it that people say verse show her soul-catching ability ala soulcatcher voice of nerat?
2. is it only verse and barik that have combo with other person other than the PC?
3. so how much paradox will rob us to continue the story?
4. how many variation are there? honestly, it surpassed my expectation. it isn't as deep as AoD, but the amount of exclusive dialogue feels really quite alot. picking ashe/nerat alone in the beginning locked you up a chunk of dialogue with the opposing archons
5. can you not take all the 5 spires?
6. is there a way to not kill the sages, the beastmen and other oppsing factions? i played disvavored until the end of act 3, then made ashe bend knee to me
7. any way to go trough act 3 without killing anyone? who's free to go? any way to be declared not guilty by tunon?
tbh having little expectation made this game quite enjoyable. it has flaws, like the retarted skill levelling up ability, but i kinda enjoy this more than PoE tbh. the writing is lot better and i find the setting more intriguing. the combat is okay. in that aspect, pillars 3.0 is better. it could be better, but held back by idiotic design choice like no friendly fire, TES level up sytem, lack of variety, etc.

the story is pretty good, but cut short either they want to milk the series into a trilogy or something, or it is the good ol' obsidian excuse "waah publisher didn't give us enough time and money we have to cut 90% of act 3"

but if there are really a sequel announced, i wouldn't mind we explore the rest of the continent and make our way to defeat kyros.

Even with latest patch, despite recommendations to replay, I couldn't be bothered to get past first village area...so I did a ToEE+ run once again. I have no idea how I did a full run on PotD difficulty on release.
That said, with Tyranny, the mechanics were so fucking shit that I stopped at the red dudes camp..and..well....kinda did another ToEE+ run instead :)

I'm ashamed to say it but with how bad their systems is, I'm kinda hoping for a "story mode" difficulty setting, where you automatically succeed and win all fights/conflicts immediately, and just get on with the story. Only way I can be bothered...

Sounds like a case of "turn based combat/D&D good, real time with pause/non-D&D bad" to me.

I thought so but realized that I can play BG/BG2/IWD/IWD2 no problem. I really just have a hard time with their system (it's just bad and too nit picky just to be nit picky) and flashy shit.

And I realize that I fucking LOATHE "abilities" and "cooldowns". It makes NO fucking sense whatsoever and makes everything gamey as shit, which I despise.

Use cheat engine or edit savegame to set your lore to 250, cheat all spell sigils, and make a few spells with max AoE, damage and bouncing or some other boost. On the lowest difficulty, any encounter is finished in one or two casts. It's about equivalent to a skip combat button. It's the only way I could manage to finish it, if only to see how the trainwreck ends.
