Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
So. I went hard/oddities.

Str 7
Dex 6
Agi 3
Con 7
Int 7
Per 3
Will 7
In retrospect I could drop a point of int and pick up dex or str, as I doubt I'll actually take any of the int 7 feats, just some of the int 6 ones. Oh well.

Main skills are, melee (aiming at knives feats later on), throwing, hacking, lock picking, Thermo, Mechanics, tailoring. Gonna grab biology until 25, then switch to chemistry.

Starting feats were, stoicism and conditioning, then grabbed opportunism, after that mainly stuff that either a.) improved knife fighting b.) stuns/poisons c.) improves thermo and d.) armor crafting bonuses if I get the chance. Was tempted to grab juggernaut but it seemed kind of counter productive with stoicism.

So far so good. Biggest concern has been robots, need to buy a lot of emp grenades. Opportunism and those ice shards that freeze things work great together, as expected, the fireball is very nice.

What are my chances to finish the game with that build?

Ummm... not good? There's going to be some fights that will just fuck you up.

Seems too much of a "jack of all trades" character. How far along are you?

Yo that's pretty shit build, you kinda need max dex for knives, since every -AP is golden. Besides you don't need str at all I'd say.

Going for a Psi melee build. unarmed kinetic with evade/dodge.

stats would be 3 10 6 3 3 10 5

But cant decide if its too much will and if 3 of those points wouldnt be better served split between agi and int. Halp

Were you in there when we were discussing it in Shitbox? I think dropping will a bit in favor of agility is smart. Get fancy footwork and better evade/dodge.

Basically - the boost you get from will for force emission I think is offset by the other bonuses.

INT , and crafting skills you need it to craft psionist tactical vest and headband. 10 will for locus , mandatory.

i go for infused siphoner leather armor instead, as cost of my psi is mostly static and psi headband doesnt need int.

over 2/3rds of my damage come from psi powers tho, with emission + proxy. So its really more of a debate damage or survivability.

Couple questions re
Oculus
questline:

I just spoke to Wit Nosek but he died and I didn't find any documents on him. I then went back to report my findings to Azif who gave me a reward and then basically told me to contact them if I uncover any further clues.

Does this questline pick up anywhere else from this point on? I haven't been to the Institute or Deep Caverns yet and Azif is stingy with the clues, so I'm wondering if I maybe missed something.

Can you proceed further without angering Faceless blockades? All they do is tell me to fuck off. I've been trying to find alternate routes with no success whatsoever.

I also tried to wear Tchort armor as a disguise, so I can kill the Faceless blockading without repercussions, but Alas, Faceless is all knowing.

Any crossbow specialists have any luck against enemies with crazy-high mech armor (like the industrial bots)? Even my 175% (+Critical Power) crits aren't breaking single-digit damage, though they were just fine for almost one-shotting plasma sentries. Elemental Bolts helps a bit, but it still takes a ton of acid/shock bolts to take out those monstrosities. Bladelings were a similar problem, but at least they weren't immune to burrower poison / bleed.

The right answer is probably 'just sneak past them'... I was just wondering if I'm missing anything obvious.

You don't think you are missing anything obvious, heavy armor is a pain for crossbows, especially when you can't just fill them with all sorts of poisons. Let us know how it goes.
To be honest, I was worried about crossbow viability against some DC enemies during beta (I like playing with crossbows myself), but I wasn't tasked with testing that and the devs assured me it's fine. :/

bati yes, there is something else you can discover.
Did you talk to Nosek about his assistant yet? IIRC you can discover some relevant documents on the computers of Panacea Lab in Upper Underrail and more afterwards in the Coretech Research Facility at Core City.

Have you acted friendly towards faceless before entering DC? If not, they probably won't be your friends now. Best keep culling those faceless freaks.

So far it hasn't been TOO bad when combined with stealth (at level 22). My build is similar to Pope Amole's arbalist, only I picked up pack rathound early and deferred ambush until later... also focused heavily on crafting, though my crossbow and stealth skills are still maxed. Gear is infused cave hopper armor + ninja tabi for kiting, switching between 15% crit and 36% +special damage goggles depending on enemies. I'm using a quality 115ish zephyr with super string and anatomy scope (the +50% crit damage one), and have a secondary precision-scoped pneumatic zephyr crossbow for landing debuff / CC bolts.

Without spoilers, what I can say is that it works for most situations... and where it doesn't, you gotta stealth (non-stealther crossbow builds may be in trouble, unless they have a secondary weapon skill). Maybe there is a higher tier of elemental (esp acid) bolts inside the DC that makes things easier, though.

So far I cleared Arke and a few surrounding zones. I was a bit afraid of cuttlesnails based on what I've seen from a previous run, but they're effectively similar to bladelings: kite, bleed, poison, win. They're vulnerable to the elements as well, so it's not too bad. Arke itself was manageable. Plasma sentries die in 4 non-crit shots, and a crit one-shots them or brings them to near death, depending on which shield they have. More importantly, a stealth build barely needs to fight them at all...

However, industrial bots are a huge pain. There's nothing I could find that would do significant damage to them (shock bolts did 'eh' damage, everything else was too weak, including standard acid and mk 1-2 incendiary bolts), so Quick Tinkering with lots of acid blob traps ended up being the answer. I was able to chokepoint them near the entrances of the small rooms with a combination of acid and bear traps, and slowly whittle them down (8-10 turns) with the usual "pop out of cover, shoot twice, pop back in, end turn" strategy while the rest of the bots couldn't get LOS on me. Each of my hits was a crit between 20-45 damage, but I think the brunt of the damage was done by the traps themselves.

In Arke specifically the two static spawns are easy to avoid completely, but the two in the IRIS encounter must be dealt with. There are a few industrial bots in surrounding zones as well, but I was able to avoid fighting those (though in Warehouse 2 it's sort of a PITA since it patrols directly through the shelves with lots of stuff).

I've been to Panacea and Coretech before I got to Wit Nosek, I posed to him as his assistant Al, he mentioned a few things about dna sequencing and whatnot but nothing beyond that. Oh yeah, he dropped dead after our convo, I uh, neglected to mention that before, lol. I got the Huxkey from Azif as a reward in the end and he told to come back if I find anything else. Does this questline continue after you come across Six again? I noticed he's missing from the Oculus so I quickly checked wiki which lists Institute as one of his possible locations. That's going to be my next destination soon. Speaking of the institute - can I continue working for them up to the moment where Tremors start and only then go all buddy-buddy with the Faceless? I've been friendly with them at every chance I had so I'd like to maintain good diplomatic relations.

While throwing is a good addition for most characters, you have too much with melee and throwing and metathermics. At the beginning it doesn't matter much, because against low level critters even a weak fireball is enough, but later on it makes a difference in how quickly you can dispose of your enemies.

If really want a knives and magic kind of guy, I'd stick to just throwing (as you can use both throwing knives and grenades) and metathermics. Stats would go between dexterity and will. Consider the following: with high dexterity you can take the ripper (increases critical bonus damage based on missing health) and fatal throw (automatic critical if the target is below 25% health) feats, and you get more attacks with throwing knives.

For psi feats the important one would be psionic mania (you need psychosis for that), because it makes a spell an automatic critical and premeditation, since it is basically another free spell in a turn.

Open up the fight with a critical fireball (psionic mania) and another aoe spell (premediation), and then finish off whoever is left standing with throwing knives. And you can always throw flashbangs, emp grenades and cocktails as a cherry on top. ;)

As crossbow user with no biology those things gave me nightmares, haven't killed a single one.

On the topic of heavily armored robots, shock bolts and emp granades/quick tinkered mines do wonders. There is not that many spots where you have to engage Industrial bots anyways.
As far as i understand final fight in Aske power station is skippable if you have enough mechanics but i did it anyways. Those small rooms are godsent there.

Well, if Nosek dropped dead, I suppose that concludes your affairs with him. I haven't found any continuation to the Oculus questline, but there could be something in DC...

The faceless should forgive your transgression at the institute (and even give you a warning before the invasion begins) if you have been their bro.

Yeah, they're a pain to kill. But they can be well worth the effort.
If you had biology and chemistry, you could craft corrosive acid bolts/traps from their acid glands. Corrosive acid deals a good bit of damage and the corroded armor debuff (-7% resistances/thresholds, stacks 10 times) is a godsend against anything with thick armor.

On a scale of 1 to "you better restart if you don't have this perk", how important is Toxicology in DC for a crossbow user? I got Elemental Bolts already so if things can be set on fire/soaked in acid I'm good :obviously:

edit: How the fuck do I brofist some of the useful posts? I'd ask in the newfag section but I'm too lazy.

I only used shock and incendiary bolts (with some acid bolts i found without crafting), did not use biology. When planning a character i thought those two cover both living things and robots, in retrospective i should have probably gone for poisons too since they work great with bear traps and some heavily armored living things can be a true pain in the ass.

No kidding. I think it's the combination of being immune to traps and LOS abuse (due to being stationary burrower-types) and they regenerate 75 HP ever so often, so attrition tactics don't work either.

They did seem to be somewhat susceptible to fire, but I'm not sure I can kill them fairly 1-on-1... maybe I should've used my super steel to create dog leather armor instead. AOE seems risky, because all those grubs go aggressive as well.

edit: OTOH, stealthing past them seems to be fairly simple, as long as you don't bump into anything

You get initiated after a year. The initiation ritual involves proper fisting.

Eh, there isn't any single feat that's absolute must-have. I would say the most important thing is the ability to make your own special bolts. Self-sustainability is the key for long trips into unknown.

Donate your jewgolds to codex to gain more facebook features and access to :obviously: hidden subforums. Or wait a year.
