did you fight magar?

Yeah, that fucker was OP as fuck. During one reload, he one-hit me from full HP (over 700 at the time) through Fend and Lemurian marine armor.

The key for me was to land a spear throw at a good distance. That nuked almost all of his HP. He then ran into my traps and I stabbed him a few more times.

During every single reload, my Expose Weakness missed him, of course.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The new expansion maps: many people (myself included) find it a boring slog, while some think it's not so bad.

It's most definitely a slog. There can be no doubt about it. The locusts are by far the worst of it, though. There's also a lot of loot to be had, so for reward-driven players, the slog may be worthwhile for that reason alone.

It is a slog, and it annoys me, but much like DC that doesn't sour me to the whole experience. There are many good things, such as exploration in and of itself, much more tileset variety, the Ladelman and what's-his-name dialogues, The Dude, tootling around on jet skis, the expanded backstory/lore, the new toys and character mechanics, etc.

The most fun I've had so far was actually genociding the natives on their home turf, and those have also been the most challenging fights. I was chowing down on drugs like they were Halloween candy, abusing corners like a bitch, and could not defeat the chieftain without deploying traps (traps were my "final extracurricular skill" this playthrough, not a core skill of the build). That's on Normal, though my build is fairly unoptimized, especially with the expanded mechanics.

quite a fight on hard for stabby build. After perfect positioning and sneaky picking lone enemies ive dropped boss eventually. At lvl 25 had sub 60% hit chance + he blocks 40 dmg. Immune to stuns too.
Anyway I drop him, loot body for amazing 5xp oddity and... get attacked by some mist wtf? Not having much idea what to do(was rdy to just run away) i drank juice. Great... now I can kill some ghost... only to find out he got quite resistances and is immune to expose weakness. Shrugs mk3 plasma like its nothing. Good thing I had q120 energy edge knife. Thanks to my superior movement pool I just kept stabbing and recharging(each hit was like 20 energy dmg) I dropped ghost down. It felt like that fight laster forever

Is he supposed to be some uber boss?

Maybe I'm tripping but I face tanked Magar's damage a bunch before I even thought to use the Juice. Once I used it I killed him pretty easily just by autoing. I'm also playing on hard. I was pretty overleved, somewhere around 20+, so maybe that's why.

This was the final variation of my build on hard.

The build honestly really picks up aronud level 20 which is when you should be making your 1.6k+ Energy Shield. I think it's better to use a High Modulator as your primary versus a low one, as you block most attacks anyway. Sweep is great as it makes it so even enemies with high dodge won't be able to dodge your Expose Weakness assuming you hit them with the Sweep. It's also good as an AOE to finish off low health enemies after you nuke them with a Plasma MKIII or Frag MKV. Great build that I pretty much facerolled with on hard once I reached level 20.

Blaine did he turn to ghost on normal?

Yeah.

There really wasn't any substantial difference fighting him on Normal compared to Hard, either, except for bonus HP that didn't particularly matter since I couldn't allow myself to be hit anyway. If there had been more mooks, there would have just been more corpses.

Given the extreme modifiers to boss NPCs on DOMINATING!, I have a hard time believing that any character other than a min-maxed psi wizard could manage to defeat him.

Shotgun with 20 p shines here, because none of the natives have good armor, and Patsy has leading shot so they couldn't evade.

It was a void. I don't think it's difficulty-related; it's part of the main storyline. If you haven't talked to the ferryman about his fight with the natives, do so.

On my sword build I used a net and then killed him in a turn with the 95% hit chance. He has like >600 dodge on DOMINATING

You (should) need the torch to kill the ghost. What oddity did you get from him? Psure I got nothing.

Native invasion as Sniper was jank at its finest - given that you get swarmed by over a dozen each time, it's always a race of efficiency in taking them out before one inevitably reaches you and kills you in one turn.

As Scientist, it was glorious, flames and acid all over the map in some kind of chemical vomit.

rune necklace, 5xp

yeah i clearly explore too much. I also killed some shaman in nice temple. Destroyed his altar and found black stone i couldnt interact with, I assume another case for mysterious torch. Also I did look at some cranks in some graveyard and found native npc who isnt hostile on sight(just after talking with me so i loaded that one and left alone). So yeah... im quite aware i do stuff out of order.

i try but so far he eludes me :negative:
at this stage i think ive explored full border of the lake, unless i missed something. Ferryman is never where I check and only get npcs saying that he should be here soon or that ive just missed him.
im supposed to find what acorn is, some submarine but no clue where to look for. Not sure if ferryman got all the answers or did I miss something. Expedition guyz are dead(ive sided with pirates)

You don't need the ferryman for the torch, that native NPC is the easier and more direct version.

finally starting the expansion just before i get into DC.

i have been hearing the encounters and fights are bad, but damn the aesthethics are spot on. they have mastered they style and engine that even regular ground/cave tiles looks amazing in combination of their simple, but clever lighting system. everything feels alot more polished, especially when you compare them to regular underrail caves outside SGS (which is assume is made very early therefore looks quite rough).

Do you need to get him to talk? Because I chose the wrong conversation option and he attacked Patsy.

lukaszek
You will eventually need the ferryman's help with the main quest anyway. Might wait to talk to him then, it's not like the void(s) are going to run away.
edit: Do the pirates still keep the professor? He should give you more hints where to proceed. Basically you need to find the health center at some point, in order to be able to proceed in the security center.

No, it's either him or Ferryman + a native statue.

You need 8 INT to get something useful out of him.

So, I've done the main Black Sea quest - but I've still not done anything with the pirates, nor have I reached the monolith at the sea entrance; Any way I can do that? Preferably without killing 100 pirates in an insane slog?

You can't get to the monolith without going through the pirates.

Take solace in the fact that the monolith has no use and does absolutely nothing.

can someone give me a pic showing ferryman route on the map? At this stage i just want to hit every tile and get that bastard
I'm not sure he actually travels; never met him outside of his trading spots. They are marked on the Black Sea map on the UR wiki as small grey anchors.

Just started Derp Caverns and there's so much respawning that some enemies actually have an animation showing them getting ready to respawn (spore turrets). K, think I'm done with this game for now.
I didn't really like my PSI character anyway, both because player-wielded magic feels lame to me in such an otherwise gritty setting, and because I had no points in any weapons skills, which meant a whole part of the game was just something to sell to shopkeepers.

Playing a pistolier and trying to get one pistol for every damage type sounds pretty fun to me; I'll do that next time, and while I'm at it I'll probably play on DOMINATING. Don't know when I'll want to play the game again, though; not for a while. What's planned for future updates or expansions? Will there be an Underrail 2?

Fun fact: the respawns used to be much much worse.

It's so bad even the Kodex has a majority negative opinion of it.
