You also miss all the personal recording bits from old tablets or whatever they were. At least I dunno how to power up the reader w/o that tech guy. But I imagine you've read them already anyway.
That’s the only real advantage of going with Aegis - those bits of lore. Unfortunately it’s underdeveloped, and the pain in the ass that is the “defend against native attacks” missions is such that I would play pirates in any future replay.

If you go pirates, just look up the piece of lore associated with the data tablets you recover.

also, if you are anti protectorate kind of a guy, piratez allow you to deal yet another big blow to their operations, while defeating pirates actually strengthens them

piratez are best in fact. Especially if you are into fisting/stabbing or poison/acid crafting(due to speific vendor access).
Unless you're into machetes in which case you should go for Aegis and loot the bandana and the sword.

Dropped some thoughts on crossbows in suggestions on the official forum, gonna include here too because curious what you guys think / how many rotten tomatoes you wanna throw.

Crossbows have a dedicated skill but feel very neglected compared to Guns, and it seems this won't get addressed very soon, since the last devlog mentioned unique spears and another weapon type for the Guns skill. Thus I'd like to share some thoughts.

There is special ammo for crossbows, but if you look at how many special ammo types you can get with Guns (soon to be expanded further), it's not really that big of a difference.
Another big issue is that most crossbow models are not used, aside from Cyclon and Zephyr, and out of those two it's Cyclon that is truly essential. This is because Zephyr's crits fail to be useful against many enemies with high mechanical resistance, so the essential crossbow to craft for the endgame is always the Cyclon, while it's fine if your Zephyr lags behind in quality or if it's even just left behind at some point.

This makes it feel like there is just some variety lacking in crossbows, given how many models and ammo types and uniques there are for guns. The difference is a little overwhelming. So here's some ideas for improving this a little.

Concepts for making the craftable crossbows other than Cyclon more interesting:
- performing certain types of attacks with this crossbow will restore some action points
- has increased total damage output but only when firing special bolts, crits are less powerful
- attacks only incur X% mechanical resistance instead of 125%, if you attack while Focused
- get increased precision and damage output, but only when firing normal non-special bolts

Concepts for adding more interesting unique crossbows:
- a high-tech crossbow that uses a power source to heat up the bolt tips and increase the power and/or penetration of the attacks
- a mystical crossbow that grants bolts unusual properties or damage types, similar to what some sormirbaeren weapons can do
- a crossbow that synergizes with psi skills and is somewhat accurate even with lower Perception stat

Have any of you joined the pirates in Expedition? How was it compared to sticking with Aegis? I'm thinking of doing a playthrough with them, but not if they're a straight up downgrade in terms of content (like Scrappers are, for example)
Aegis is dead end, story and mechanics related. After you rescue the professor there's not much to do, and after you get them the Acorn they pack up and leave. Pirates on the other hand, are forever, banga.

I have played through the expansion 4 times (yes, yes, I know, weak, install again, play again, etc...) and I've sided with Aegis everytime. I try to get myself to betray Aegis, but every time I look at my beautiful baby boi Ladelman.....and I just can't.

I think the only way I'm going to be able to do a pirate playthrough is if I skip the intro of the expansion and go to the pirates directly.

don't rage BING XI LAO , this is the mindset that will allow Stygian to make games until Styg dies or retires.

Taking on too much at once is what destroys many small studios. I'm glad to see he's taking such a thoughtful approach, we may actually see the next chapter in the UR saga (in 10 years or so).

I think a lot of devtime and devsweat went into all of the systems, resources, reactivity, the radio, the raids and various upgrades to the defenses you can play around with and give a shit about with Aegis, leaving it feeling lite even though the heaviest work went into it compared to the xpiratez, which is a run of the mill typical RPG location x npcs x quests
The pirates are just better, roleplay and mechanics wise. Also i think you could farm endless raids at the camp, even after siding with the pirates, but after the last update, the raids are actually scripted and will cease to happen when you defeat the fourth one. I remember farming endless tribal nose candy doing that, because even after siding with the pirates, i would still protect the island so my buddies marcus and laddelman wouldn't die (fuck briggs and yahota though)

Seems it will be one big area for higher level characters, and the "here and there" will be the usual stuff like some NPCs suddenly getting heavy guns for themselves, which could change some old encounters as you get your rathound regalia bratatat'd by a 12.7mm minigun.

I still wish they Styg and co. created quests related to Omega station, opening it up for exploration like some sort of dungeon, and other quests designed to strengthen SGS in the South.

Yeah, Omega is never mentioned after Depot A (outside of a couple odiities in Ironhead territory) despite being a significant played in southern geopolitics before being wiped out fairly recently and it always irked me.
