How many times do you people need to get ripped off to stop falling for kickstarters?
It's interesting - the scrappy studios made up of first-timers and fans turned developers have a better track record than the more established ones.

Good stuff
Expeditions: Conquistadors
Stasis
SRR / DF / HK
SitS
KCD
Star Traders: Frontiers
BEDLAM
Battletech

Bad stuff
BT4
TToN
WL2
PoE
Darkest Dungeon
UAscendant

Undecided
InSomnia
D:OS
Banner Saga
Vigilantes

Plus some promising titles on the way like Iron Oath, Copper Dreams, EnCased, Xenonauts 2, Beautiful Desolation, Jupiter Hell, Dungeons of Aledorn, Gibbous, and Graywalkers.

My guess is that it's partly because they actually play videogames and are passionate about them. And they probably play pretty decent ones at that.

These "established" developers started looking at videogames as simply a job and a business a long time ago. They need to stop and go away now. They can spend their retirement days playing mobile games on their phone and Hearthstone.

Looking is one thing. The key difference is that small guys consider their work passion projects, for which they're ready to suffer huge inconveniences and subside on frozen pizzas. Established guys on the other hand feel entitled to the same life they led when working for the publisher. They essentially just hire themselves to do the jobs at industry standard wages. And when money inevitably runs out and they don't have the safety cushion of extra time that publishers would usually give them, they just shove the end product through the door.

These creeps were more interested in holding court at gaming convention panels, discussing the fate of the "immersive sim" with Gamespot, and proudly promoting their upcoming titles than making a game like Ultima Underworld. Arkane managed it 15 years ago with zero experience and barely a pot to piss in.

ResetEra stopped clock moment said:
If you load a save game, it will reset you to the start of a level. Not only that, but you keep your inventory but the entire level resets as well as restocking all items in the level.

So basically not only is the save system non functional, but it allows you to get unlimited items.

And apparently this isn't a bug. It is because the developers couldn't figure out how to save the state of a level. They say they might be able to figure out a way to save the game in the future. Emphasis on might.

What kind of rinky dink operation are they running?

I backed it, but there is no way I'm going to play a game with such complete incompetence on display for the most basic of bare-minimum functionality. I can only imagine what other bugs it must be riddled with.

also tagging this thread for further drama.

Thing is they fucked up making it first person. First person games actually take talent to create GOOD ones especially with the size and ambition they aimed for. Its way over the head for a noob team of game developers.

I saw early builds and they looked awful, but... Wow. If it's as bad as it seems, this is a real disappointment.

This conversation springs to mind:

Sick Boy:
It's certainly a phenomenon in all walks of life.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
What do you mean?

Sick Boy:
Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life: George Best, for example. Had it, lost it. Or David Bowie, or Lou Reed...

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
Some of his solo stuff's not bad.

Sick Boy:
No, it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
So who else?

Sick Boy:
Charlie Nicholas, David Niven, Malcolm McLaren, Elvis Presley...

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
OK, OK, so what's the point you're trying to make?

Sick Boy:
All I'm trying to do is help you understand that The Name of The Rose is merely a blip on an otherwise uninterrupted downward trajectory.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
What about The Untouchables?

Sick Boy:
I don't rate that at all.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
Despite the Academy Award?

Sick Boy:
That means f*** all. The sympathy vote.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
Right. So we all get old and then we can't hack it anymore. Is that it?

Sick Boy:
Yeah.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
That's your theory?

Sick Boy:
Yeah. Beautifully f***ing illustrated.

The launch day peak is official: https://steamdb.info/app/692840/graphs/

For comparison:

Code:
18189 - Deadfire
 3618 - Grimrock 2
 2058 - Bard's Tale 4
 1138 - Expeditions: Viking
  670 - Battle Brothers
  622 - Underworld Ascendant <-----
  544 - Underrail
  522 - Bard's Tale Trilogy
  403 - Age of Decadence

18189 - Deadfire?

And Battle Brothers are only 670?

My opinion of Humankind just lowered. Generic BG-wannabe with bland-as-it-can-be story and game mechanics is much more popular than deep, truly original and fun game.

I mostly agree with your stuff,DD did deliver what it promised and its fans are happy,i personaly don't care tho. Battletech is sjw repetitive boring game. Insomnia nad Banner saga are good, while DOS did deliver what they promised, tho i didn't like it.

I find it interesting that the more a kickstarter makes the shittier the game is. Most small kickstarters are pretty incline. Knowing what you want to make and having passion to do it while making money for some basic needs is prestigious thing. While big California studios do spend the made money on shitty things that nobody asked for and end up with bad games. Sooo in the end if americans ask for money piss in their face and give the money to European incline :obviously:. America can't make anything but popamole trash.

These "industry veterans" come across as a bunch of intolerable prima donnas well past their prime, mostly blah-blah and zero true grit. Maybe all the actual work was done by low pay interns while the Industry Veterans spent their time "designing worlds" and visiting conventions. As someone mentioned, for good PC games we better keep an eye on those 1 man studios from the Ukraine. Or Australia ( Cleveland Mark Blakemore ).

As someone who knows nothing whatsoever about Battle Brothers, what's the deal with that game?
