Good lord, the amount of hate here is astonishing even by Codex standards. My props to the game developer for not getting butthurt, he probably knows a lot of people here have nothing better to do than bitch and complain.
The game looks neat imo, wishlisted just to prop you up.
Where is the hate? There's like one guy saying he won't buy the game but it isn't personal.

Probably talking about the first few pages of this thread, which is worth a read just for a laugh.

But compared with most current year RPGs, the codex is actually pretty favorable to this game so far. Looks over at Space Wreck ... man, what happened there? Nvm, I don't want to know.

I'll be doing the majority of the writing as usual. Somebody else will write the non hetro-vanilla sex parts and I'll rework it for uniformity.

I'm not sure fun is the word I'd use, but it does get me up in the morning.

Some outside environment renders. Will probably bring back my realtime night day cycle from my last game. Vampires will suffer various negative statuses in daytime, maybe even damage ticks in direct sunlight. Will have to see.

Couldn’t the game take place at perpetual nighttime?

I'm experimenting with some things. I feel like setting certain things during only daytime creates more interesting gameplay choices.

Did I mention the game has a large Battle Brothers-style freeroam map? If I didn't I probably should add it to the front page.

You'll be going around the city doing mobster shit, and different things happen during day vs night. I think nighttime might also be more dangerous (for both humans and vampires, but different reasons, ie vampire hunters come out or other supernatural monsters).

Also, this cycle is to balance out vampirism somewhat instead of just an mechanically superior option to staying human. Which, it still kind of is, because vampires.

You're giving me some serious red flags here.

To begin with - Khepri, Lore and Faustine don't look anything like their anime depictions. You might want to go with a heart-shaped chin for them instead. Lore's hair could use some shortening, too. Overall the 3D models look like MILFs, while anime art ones look young. And the so-called Berserker girl has no muscular/athletic body? Bro, you disappoint me...

I would’ve opted for simplicity and forced the pledge to become a vampire at a certain point, thereby removing balance as a consideration. It sounds to me like a lot of work, but I guess we’ll see how it works out

That's a feature, not a bug.

But obviously, having two different artists with different styles working in different mediums will produce wildly different results. I want them to stick as close to their preference as possible, rather than altering to adhere to 1:1 visual uniformity.

Yes, but there may be damage ticks as well. A compromise between vampires being smart/wealthy enough to do something about their vulernabilities in a cyberpunk setting, but there's only so much you can do to mitigate an actual fucking curse.

I have a habit of overworking myself on mechanics that don't work out. But we'll see. I'd rather do more cool new shit than just repeat what's been done.

Will the familiars be able to remain competitive throughout the game against vampires? Since vampires are pretty damn strong(as you have said) will they be able to go toe to toe against them without becoming vampires themselves? I imagine that the big vampire chiefs will be really hard to even face directly,since they are well guarded and obviously inhumanely powerful.

I don't mind the anime look, but I always think that 'teenage' vampires are a bit cringy (twilight, sparkle sparkle, etc.). It kinda misses the underlying theme of older-than-time immortal vampires. They don't have too look like someones grandma, but they should project life-experience.

So the 'older' look's preferable to me. Guess there'll be fans for the anime look, too.

I think not trying to unify them is the right decision, I don't see a good reason for a player to switch between them all the time. The Diablo 2 remake has a similar feature, switching between the original and new graphics. I switched a few times back and forth for a while, just playing around with it. But honestly, while it's a nice toy, switching back and forth is not really necessary. I'm sure there are some purists who prefer the old looks, and plenty who don't. No one needs both simultaneously.

Don't get me wrong - I don't have anything against MILFs, but if you're offering anime and 3D styles for the same characters, then I pointed out the discrepancies between the two for the sake of consistency.

So yes and no. I have no intention of balancing vampires to not be objectively stronger than their mortal counterparts, because they just are. But since this is a high-tech setting with plenty of other shit much stronger than vampires, there will be alternatives. At the very least, a cyberpunked-out Adam Smasher type character will be able to trade punches with a vamp and not get immediately splattered.

Gorgeous but what is the gameplay like?

Design pillars?

Battle Brothers with a story. And reactivity. And porn.

Main pillars are:

1. Building a criminal empire

Set up rackets, gain the favor of your vampire overlords, maybe take over one day. Go around the city doing crime stuff, earn money, invest that in more crime stuff.

2. Fun tactical combat

I'm overhauling combat from my previous games to a less grindy, action point system. It'll still be a grid-turn-based affair, but I want to keep it fun throughout the entire game, as you'll probably be doing a lot of it. Max party size of five for now. May increase to six, but we'll have to see how action economy turns out.

3. Narrative

You got your slav/norse vampires vs Egyptian vampires vs magic triad vampires vs Cthulhu vampires. Plus a clone of the SCP foundation, some vampire hunting vigilantes, werewolves, and other stuff.

Outside of the first few intro quests, basically optional.

4. Sex

Explicit porn. Completely optional and avoidable. I might even section it off as a free DLC so I can sell the base game without it being hampered by a bunch of red tape. Dunno.
