Hello there! I wanted to tell you something about... WTF? DeepOcean... Nevermind.
:excellent:
Hey, I even liked the kickstarter pitch but you know, someone need to be an arsehole to bring balance to the universe.Man, I've even played Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim, after playing shit like that, it means that I gonna like your hiking sim (maybe even more if the quests are good, the lack of retarded dragons help a bit too) but if you can explain a little about your combat system, I would appretiate. That recent RockPaperShotgun preview was really cold water for me, or that RPS guy failed into explaining your combat system or I don't see how it is that great and different to begin with, many people didn't like that mention that it is going to be made taking console controllers in consideration, nowdays, that usually means simplistic and easy combat model.

It depends how they design it, sure. Though personally I would not mind focus on controller, seeing as I play most PC games these days from couch on 55" TV.

If the "PC games" you play have visible menus and text from your couch 10' away, then you probably won't fit in well on this forum. It's fine for cover shooters, but not so much for anything that requires, yknow, reading.

I'm guessing he's not bothered about 'fitting in'. He looks like one of those 'lurkers' who suddenly register as a kickstarter campaign begins, post endless streams of positive news on the game and the devs while attacking any negative posts - then disappear once the campaign ends. Back to the day job.

Well among the last few games I played from couch were New Vegas, Witcher 2 and Two Worlds 2. All worked well. I am playing Fallout Resurrection, expansion for Fallout 2 that takes place 10 years after FO1, it is pretty awesome. Playing this on LCD with mouse, obviously. Thankfully my PC is connected to both.

I do not care about fitting in, yes. But maybe I will keep posting, maybe not, depending on what I find interesting. Obviously I find KCD interesting and am interested about RPGCodex perspective of it. I hope VD will one day write a review, the Oblivion one is legendary.
About attacking negative posts - yes, when they are stupid ass bullshit about russian mobsters .p

Its unbelievable no publishers want of this.. Tell me its a marketing stunt to get more preorders for the game, they cant be that dumb, can they ? A medieval setting even without dragons and wizards is popular even mainstream, braveheart, kingdom of heaven were very succcessfull movies, i cant say its taking much risks to do that.
If really no one want to publish this, i cant imagine how hard it must be for a new developper with a very original and unique game. That said i am backer now, as frankly after seeing the trailer i want to play it, and play it now !

Hope the 600k$ will be reached at least. Will saracen, ottomans, style of armors be included in the game ? Maybe as further stretch goal ?

They have written in great detail about the pitching process and publisher response - you can read it all in these three articles, and it makes for entertaining read in my opinion:

Dan writes about their own mistakes too, it is not just "those bad publishers are bad, whine whine".

The game doesn't include ottomans or saracens, at least now at this scale. It's all Central Europe. However modding will be supported so you will be able to get these armors or even scenarios along with some hentai lolitas, my little pony horse and barbie house management.

Yeah I've read some of those blog entries, they are very entertaining. Dan Vavra can really write well.

My favorite is the "HOW TO MAKE A CALL OF DUTY KILLER FOR LESS". It's perfect EA bashing.

There is some new info beyond "I'd like to and the engine supports it but I don't know?"

yep
On top of that, we are developing our own proprietary RPG-MAKING TOOLS for easy development of this and any future content, including custom support for game design, animations, branching dialogue, clothing definitions, etc. We plan to release these tools to the modding community.

New update is live, but a bit underwhelming. No real information, just a bunch of FAQs. This, however, I don't like:

While it may seem that from Baron upward you get two copies of the game, it’s important to understand the distinction between copy and license. On Baron and Earl tiers you will get both digital and physical copy, however, it’s just one license (e.g. the same Steam key). So you can play either one, but you cannot for example sell the box and keep the digital copy. Obviously, both physical and digital license have to be on the same platform.

Also, the sandbox sounds quite limited. It sounds more like any other open world game and definitely not a sandbox one.

I've played Planescape on my TV. It is the most suitable pastime activity for social gatherings :obviously:

He's pushing that "historical accuracy" bullshit like it's a big selling point of the game.

It's not so much accuracy than fidelity. Besides that aspect was really a highlight of the first Mafia (a game made by people that were both humble and surprisingly dedicated to their craft).
We'll see if they stick to the same earnestness on this one...

The thing is, they don't really need to go this far with fidelity if that's just a marketing shtick for them. Most people would consider any medieval themed setting "realistic" as long as it doesn't have dragons and boobplate armor. These guys seem to care about those details far beyond the market requirement (which is a good sign, since it indicates they care in general).

However I remain somewhat skeptical towards this game, because games mentioned in connection with this developer (Mafia, Hidden and Dangerous, Operation Flashpoint) were some of the clunkiest games I ever played struggled with.

I don't know what you find clunky. The games we are talking about (Illusion), tend to be very linear but with excellent graphics and level design, and they work well, even on new computers.

I find Daniel interesting as a person, he seems to take sight of what he wants to achieve and then goes forward like a bulldozer. His way of running a multi million $ project on sheer willpower is unique and would be interesting as a book or film. My major concern is his past affliction with more linear structure. Mafia must have originated as an open world game too, then they had to cut most of that and made a linear game in a vast open city, which defied logic when people first saw it. I would be surprised if KCD would not also turn out far more linear than it sounds now.

I also think he had nothing to do with OFP, that was another guy and the only connection is that they are both Czech.

Huh ? Granted Arma and OFP have horribly clunky engine, which stems from the complexity and full body simulation, as well as inability of BIS to improve on it (though to be fair, Arma 3 is finally a bit better in this regard), but I found neither Mafia 1/2 or Hidden and Dangerous 2 (did not play first) clunky at all. Standard WSAD controls, nice production values, great design.

I think Mafia 1 was always meant as a linear cinematic game. Vavra loves Goodfellas and Godfather and wanted to make a game equivalent to it. The reason why they set it in open city...I think they just wanted to immerse the player in its world. They could have made it like Max Payne, just a string of levels without the city aspect, but that would be too unambitious. I am glad they went for the city action.
For Mafia 2, the game was supposed to have multiple (I think four) endings depending on some choices, as well as many sidemissions, but all that stuff got cut by 2K, probably due to 2K CZ not being able to finish it in time. Still a good game, just not really fulfilling its potential.

Viktor Bocan who is lead technical designer at Warhorse was one of the main brains behind OFP.
