Well, in post-apocalyptic future people wear gas masks, so that makes sense.

Brian Fargo said:Still on track for the #wasteland2 beta next week!
I kind of got the impression from Infinitron in the PE mega thread that he knows that the beta will probably land on time.
Guys, I'm excited. I can't help it. It's probably going to end in terrible disappointment, but right now I'm pumped.
I'll be shocked if it actually is released next week or even this month. Remember, Fargo's the guy who honestly believed they could get it out by October 31st. Look how long it's been. He's delusional, you can't trust him.
Uh huh.If missed deadlines are evidence of delusion then we're all fans of a completely delusional industry

Fargo's delusion is worse than others. He only said the beta wasn't happening one or two days before October 31st. Now it's December 4th after who knows how many person-hours. How could he have possibly thought it was anywhere near ready?
October 3Probably cause the October release date for the beta was announced way back in July when the game was delayed, and the original release date of the final game was simply assigned to the beta by default. They fucked up by not announcing that the beta would be delayed earlier, but the initial assignment back in July made sense.
October 18It is now October and we are close to getting this game into the hands of our beta-eligible backers. We’re currently cleaning things up, fixing the largest issues and working on a first pass of balance across Arizona.
...
The short-term plan is to continue iterating and fixing bugs found by our internal QA until the game is stable and playable through the sections we are opening up for early beta. This process will take a few more weeks. Once we get there, we will have a very small group jump in to get a feel for if it’s ready to release to our patiently waiting beta backers.
You’re all no doubt anxious to get your hands on the Early Beta and we’re anxious to get it to you! We’re now in the stage where we have distributed standalone copies of the Early Beta to a small group of external individuals as a test run. This is the final stage where we ensure it is up to our standards and runs on a variety of machines, and we’ll then be ready to get it to you.
Once we get there, we will have a very small group jump in to get a feel for if it’s ready to release to our patiently waiting beta backers.
There's a difference between "it needs a few more weeks of work" and "it needs over a month"
Is what happens when your God can't even release a website...Why are you so angry all the time?
I should have backed Wasteland. Well, it's too late now anyhow. They won't give out press keys (at least initially). Or maybe they just don't want to give it to me.
Bloody hell... why did I click that link...
Six weeks is 'a few', isn't it? Everything seems to be in order. There's a difference between "it needs a few more weeks of work" and "it needs over a month"
