Well, it does sound like an improvement to the previously repetitive combat; and I like the highlighting of unpredictability.

But does the AI use these precision strikes - if not actively deciding to, at least in a manner that they can randomly hit the body parts causing similiar effects the PC's?

Wasteland 2 doesn't have "what you see is what you get" loot drops anyway, does it?

I do have a faint recollection that it does, at least to some degree. If I was shot with a shotgun, there was usually a shotgun to be looted from the corpse.

Cool, I didn't remember that. Frankly I don't mind a few less guns to haul back and forth to the merchant. But who are we kidding, we're all going to be trying for nothing but headshots anyway.

I could be wrong, of course. I've been keeping the game behind a tab to get as fresh experience with the DC as possible so my memory is shaky. But yeah, I don't really mind losing some loot if the situation calls for such actions. I had to leave a good amount of stuff behind anyway (in the long run), and later on there weren't much of worthwhile loot anyway.

And on that note, I had hoped they'd do something with the massive amount of junk items. I had the idea at some point that they could've tried out something where the player can - with a specific skill - try to combine some of those things into more worthwhile "luxury items" worth more scraps or fail and be left with even less valuable junk (similiar to how there are chances to get different items from disassembling weapons). And a similiar case for trying to combine meds into more powerful ones (more use for doctor and first aid). Not a big thing, but it could've added a bit (just a bit) more intrigue to scavenging and give some skills more puropse.

That aside. Headshots will probably be the main thing to go for and I suspect there are perks that mitigate the to-hit penalty. I do hope the effects for hand and leg shots are beefy enough to make their effects satisfying; there were several cases that I remember thinking "Fuck me, I wish I could shoot these bastartds' legs/hands off."

What the fuck were they thinking with that baby doll?
Not really hard to figure out.
* A bunch of Fallout fans want Wasteland 2 to be "the real Fallout 3"
* As a result, Fallout fans threw their money at the KS and continue to buy the game
* Fallout has Vault Boy in the manual and so forth
* How do we make Fallout fans feel more at home
* Make something close to Vault Boy without violating distinctive likeness trademark

I don't like the dolls either, but it's obvious why they're there.

I had hoped they'd do something with the massive amount of junk items.
Yeah. I had hoped they wouldn't bloat the inventory system with tons of garbage items in the first place, but what are you gonna do?

Yeah I know it's the Wasteland 2 Vault Boy replacement, but why a fucking baby? Why not a Ranger? Or I don't know, anything that fits the setting instead of this juvenile stuff?

I was planning to check out W2 when the EE's out, afterall I did kickstart it, but it's getting less and less likely.

Yea, lost cause there I suppose. But if they keep patching the game further they might want to consider doing something with the garbage.

Ha you admit it. When I was saying same thing on InXile boards for a long time before release bunch of mods and others there (my guess would be you as well since you are a mod there) attacked me and acted like Fallout fans are not the majority of backers for WL2.

People on official forums tend to be severely deluded. It's fairly obvious Wasteland is Fallout's less famous uncle, and InXile really did ride that connection during the campaign

And they will again, with that Avellone "Van Buren" successor, which will most likely end up being Wasteland 3.

And you thought that Fallout 1 & 2 are brutal because you can aim at children parts, eh?

Now you can target baby parts. Beat that!

Lil' Ranger Joe isn't a particularly bad idea, but I think he would be too close to Vault Boy. Regardless, the fact is that he still wouldn't be more appropriate than the dolls, because nothing is appropriate as a sales mascot for the Desert Rangers, because the Rangers aren't a sales and marketing company like Vault-Tec is.

Baby dolls have big heads, so they look like Vault Boy, but not too much.
Broken toys are a generic reflection of a post-apocalypse setting.
And the original Night Terror was holding a doll.
latest

So, why not? If they were going to have a VB analog (which they shouldn't have), a bunch of dolls are as appropriate as anything else.

I never said that Fallout fans didn't back Wasteland 2. I said they were wrong to expect/demand "Fallout 3" instead of "Wasteland 2". That's still true.

I wouldn't mind that. MCA ending up as the creative director or perhaps even project lead of WL3 could actually bring something even closer to a proper Fallout; MCA being the sotryteller/narrative oriented dude.

It's not like it's an entire new paradigm of role-playing games. Wasteland 2 isn't Fallout 3 because it just isn't anywhere near as good

Well - I assume you weren't on the official forums during W2's development, but there were many, many conversations there that started with the unspoken assumption, "Since this is supposed to be the real Fallout 3 and not actually a Wasteland sequel, the design must incorporate such-and-such," often in direct contradiction to the design and even story canon of Wasteland. Constant reminders were (and apparently still are) necessary that the two franchises are not the same, even as Wasteland incorporates Fallout elements to woo fans of the latter game.

We might've been wrong, but then again it was hyped that way. I've been played, this being my first cRPG kickstarter and all (like many of us). But I've never backed another cRPG kickstarter at more than minimum... except for Torment (played again by inXile? God I hope not!)

Eh. Brian definitely mentioned Fallout quite a bit, but was always clear about Wasteland 2 being a sequel to Wasteland. He also mentioned games like Stonekeep and Icewind Dale, but nobody expected "the real Stonekeep II". On some level you guys were hearing what you wanted to hear instead of what was actually being said.

Can't really blame you because we were all so starved for a post-apoc RPG.

Maybe you're right and he was intentionally suckering Fallout fans by saying "the real Fallout 3!" between the lines - I don't think so, but maybe - but even if so, what was explicitly promised was Wasteland 2. That had to come first.
