Wasteland Wasteland 2 Thread - Director's Cut

I know i will get flamed for this, but graphically speaking, it still looks like shit. This cheapy, non-personalised, Unityesque kind of ..shit.. that characterised it before has not been removed or better hidden. While during my initial impressions i was happy to blame Unity and/or Fargo for merely choosing it, the truth is that having since then come across many, many other Unity-based titles? It's WL2 that looks like shit. Cheap looking shit. I played basement Unity made games that looked better. Just for having a soul. Rant over.

Back to the game now.

Excidium II it's all your fault. I think. It's possible anyway.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I haven't played the director's cut, but I doubt it looks worse than the original in any way, so if either is too ugly for you to handle I will consider you a graphics whore and your opinion below me.

We're not talking about how long it took, we're talking about whether the DC is better than the original game - and it is.
Maybe you are talking about that, I am talking about what was promised and what we got.

How do you find out the code to the door in Darwin village? I didn't bother reading Hell Razor's log notes and handed it over to Vargas, now I am in Darwin village, killed all the mutants but can't find any clues about the code. I am guessing its the name of the half robot or something Vargas mentioned that ran the place but can't remember what it was and his name doesn't show up the quest logs.

Can I store crap in one of the chests out of Ranger Citadel safely? since I finished Rail Nomads before going to Ag Center and Highpool, I am decently high level now and have a lot of items and scraps I would like to get rid off but can't enter the citadel.

Game looks much better than the original but man, most of the models look young, the Hobo's portraits make him an old man but his character model looks like he is in his 20s or something. Same thing with Chisel. Chisel is pretty great, good dialogue and a badass in fights.

Chests still mostly contain a couple of ammos and junks but I think not many of them are trapped anymore and a lot of chests seem unlocked now. perks are pretty good but there is a lot of it and almost all of them are for combat and kinda similar and none combat seem a little boring like the +1 ass skill or something. There is a perk that reveal all the hidden locations on the world map but you need to waste 3 perks I think to just get it plus the skill requirement. Kinda wish if they allowed to get a perk and then the perk upgraded with higher levels or something instead of picking a more higher percentage of the same perks.

Voice acting sounds pretty armature mostly but pretty funny too, I still skip most of the dialogue tho and only read quest logs afterward, most dialogues still feel like an info dump.

There's a museum in Ranger Citadel with a clue in it. If you had gone to Ag Center before Highpool, Rose could have opened it on her own.

Well fuck.

Yea, I looked up a guide. Thanks tho.
I think I am gonna bring Rose since she is very good skill wise IIRC and guide says she can open it.

Second I think is sarcastic, maybe? IIRC someone in the Citadel pays very well for Scraps from the guns so I would like to sell it to him instead of the regular shops. I also have other quests related items for the people inside the base, Vargas said to talk to them about handing it over but after I finish installing the radio to prove myself. I guess ending a war and making the train work again isn't that much of an accomplishment to grant me an access.

I was going to try Highpool this time around, but Vulture's Cry and her voice acting made me reconsider:

I was a backer and still have not play more than 20 min of the game, waiting for patches and after that the balance patch and finally the DC.
If InXile is still working on the game (i mean more than just looking for bugs) i can wait a few more weeks or even months though.
But i don't know...

I see InXile carefully avoided the pitfall of giving her a potentially offensive native American accent by having her speak like a mentally handicapped person instead.

Their choices in VA direction are fascinating. Somebody should analyse this stuff more closely.

Wtf. Is this for real or they are trolling their players?! I gave wl2 7.5/10 but DC seems to be 7/10 so far.

Revised thoughts, nice and short, no expanding (cannot think of a single aspect not already mentioned):

I never hid the fact i am prejudiced. In my book, he is the cunt, even prior to selling out to Herve, who end of the day was just a fool with money. And no love for RPGs. Can't expect a fool to make good decisions and help his company, can't expect someone with no love of RPGs to make decisions i'd endorse. And i sure can't blame him when it was the previous one that instigated the sell out. Before Herve. But that's all in the past, and if young fanboys of the time have ended up being grown up fanboys of today, still incapable of separating fact from emotion, their call.
Myself? Cunt or no cunt, i wanted to like his game. Tried and failed when it came out, tried and failed last night and today. DC and my balls.

I still think it's more Fallout Tactics 2.0 than anything else. Except FT had better graphics. They meant something, they evoked the titles before it. FT also had a better handle on geography and space allocation. And a touch more depth in some of its mechanics. And most of all, a fucking excuse for all its shortcomings.
This time, the cunt had none. None. He even got paid in advance, when he had fuck all to show, and no one or any thing to pressure him this time around. So fuck him, and everyone working for him. Including the two resident sellouts. One occasionally dropping by to hype/play nice, the other occasionally pretending nothing's changed. And then hopping over to make posts such as "the WL2 engine is fine! We see no problems from our end!". Fuck them.

Fargo ever gets to do Van Buren/Meantime, i will be back for a third chance given. Until then?

The End.

I had a feeling that focusing on VO would end up being a huge mistake. Looks like I was right.

The desire to become the new CDPR is understandable but it's not how you get there. English VO rework in TW:EE was really more of an icing on the cake. Not to mention that CDPR spent about $1m on TW:EE and I doubt inXile could afford such expenses.

I will not based on what WL2DC is. But they can still buy me back with TToN and later with BT4, I already paid for both anyways. But if they do another KS before releasing a good TToN I am not their backer anymore.

? The VO is not the focus of the Director's Cut. They barely talked about it compared to the new graphics and the new mechanics.

The VO is not the focus of the Director's Cut.
Check what's new section in the backer FAQ where VO is on top of the list right after gfx overhaul.

But it's not the important part. Even if that voice acting was dirt cheap and they put very little effort into it (which isn't necessarily the case), the return on investment is still miserable. Sometimes it's better to have no voice acting at all.

The DC crashes constantly for me, it seems to regularly corrupt savegames which only shows when I try to leave the savegame's current area. Never had this issue with WC2.

MAYBE it's caused by having started the savegame before the first hotfixes, in which case good job on a stellar patching system Inxile.
