Anyone fancy posting their ranger party with stats? I'm really interested in seeing how people are approaching the game.

9 gb download, 21 gb install? For a Kickstarter game? What could possibly be taking up that much space?

As someone said.. Inefficiency of data storage.. (some of that is unity's fault).. And those live action videos that are encoded in near HD quality aren't helping either..

The last game I played to use real action videos like that was Red Alert ..

Playing it and it has got too much of wild west and not enough post apo feel for my tastes. Too much wacky stuff also, even more wacky stuff than fallout 2, while in fallout 2 it was ok, here it feels just silly.

Sadly this will never reach Fallout legacy.
Strange, one of the reason I love this game is that I get that Fallout vibe from it as I got from F1-2. The music, the envoriments, more or less the dialogue has that vibe.

Loving the game so far, but...why no XP for using Animal Whisperer? Used it early on to avoid a certain fight, and received zero XP. Does it ever grant XP for problem resolution?

the interface is horrible, maps are not very combat-friendly, some skills feel redundant (disarm alarms/traps? repair mechanical/toasters? pick locks/safes?) and to make the matters worse comes the aforementioned interface requiring to move the mouse everywhere to click on microscopic icons while the same fallout had better solutions.

despite all this, i feel some potential.

2014: The Year of the Grognard. That's fine, in December I'll finally get to play something I'll enjoy.

Pillars of Eternity's combat is fucking terrible at the moment, so unless you like Neverwinter Nights 2 from an axonometric perspective then you're in for a bit of a surprise if it doesn't improve massively.

It's worse than the Infinity Engine games, and you didn't even like the combat in those right ?

A beta isn't fun to play? You don't say.

Microscopic icons? Try scaling the UI, dude.

[A beta isn't fun to play? You don't say.

It's not really because it's a beta. It's because of the mechanics. You better cross your fingers that we provide the right feedback in the next few months or combat is going to be pretty bad just like every other Obsidian game. I can see it getting better, and possibly even becoming fun, but it's still got a long way to go. So I can't really guarantee that it will be that fun on release.

I have played (realtime) betas that have been further behind than this and the combat was fun and enjoyable.

I do believe Nathaniel Chapman's quote was correct though.

So if PE's combat does become good, I don't think it will be until one of the very last patches.

You're assuming Roguey is concerned with such petty human notions like 'fun'.

Also, unsurprisingly, another thread transformed into a PoE discussion.

Ag center is nightmarish and is draining the fun for me. What the fuck am I even doing. I'm poisoned by some pods except they don't seem as detrimental as the rot in D:OS (yet...). I got Rose as a groupmate, too bad she's pretty useless since most of the time she risks killing groupmates even when positioning. I rescued some guys and one turned into a pod. Rescued some old guy and met Sue who seems to be behind everything but my speech skill isn't high enough to do anything about - if anything. Now exploring the other side. Running perdy low on ammo, should have trained melee. Low on med supplies too. DONGS

Interview roundup: http://wastelandrpg.tumblr.com/post/97960017171/brian-fargo-interviews

GameReactor talks about respect.

"In contrast to other ways you may be developing through outside sources, whether from a publisher or from an investor, they want results. They want milestones. You have to prove yourself constantly along the way that you know what you’re doing.

We spent 30, 35% of our energy trying to get paid or proving we knew what we’re doing. And then you spend 30% of my energy going “what are we going to do next?” If I don’t have the next project lined up, everybody doesn’t have a job. So you got this much time to spend this much time on the game: that’s the reality. With crowd funding, here’s the money up front. “We trust you”. So I spend 95% of all my energy just thinking about how to make the game better.”

Gaming Business Review talks about the company and Wasteland 2.

What’s the inspiration for Wasteland 2?

The basic inspiration is the same as the first game but I wanted to get back to making a more classical RPG. I really creating the kind of game experience that stays with the player for a long time and one in which they carve their own path through the world. We end up creating a tremendous amount of content that a player will never see on a single play through, in order to make their choices matter.

For Wasteland 2 have you done to capture the cult followers that originally bought the game?

We didn’t have to do much to capture their attention as they’ve been hoping for a sequel for some time. And in a general sense there is a larger group of people who love the more classic PC RPG and have wanted that experience back. And of course there is the Fallout crowd who also wanted a more PC centric post apoc type game. When you add up the three groups it ends up being a large swath of gamers.

Been playing for about 90 mins. Thoughts so far: way better than Divinity: Original Sin. Writing is really good from what I've seen. Haven't quite worked out best way of starting combat yet, or all the ins and outs of combat itself, but everything looks great and I love the interface.

I don't know what do you talk about, I have constant use of those skills.

What, you want consolised huge icons like in Civ V?

For my system (Win7 64 Bit, NVIDA gfx card) Wasteland 2 is more stable with this Steam-launch-option:

-force-d3d9

I had random chrashes/freezing before.

What happens if you enable SSAO with -force-d3d9? Still slow?

Let me try this in here since nobody seems to be reading the newsthread:

Anybody else have any experiences good/bad about continuing a save from one of the last big betas? I last played the game after the "Pretty much all of Arizona" update and yesterday hit "continue" expecting a crash or at best just not loading, but sure enough it loaded. Some missions in my log which I HAD completed were marked as uncompleted, but it let me travel to LA either way...and so far everything seems normal, though I'm only a few minutes into the first Act II area.

Currently I'm playing with:

SSAO off
-force-d3d9
target framerate 30
no software cursor

best combination for me (and my gfx card)

That didn't answer my question. I'm wondering if the SSAO issue is universal, or if it's DX11-specific (so if you force D3D9 it doesn't happen)
