I'm just going to leave this idea/tip here, maybe some of you will find it useful:

After getting all the needed copies of a particular weapon mod, you are going to want weapon parts to sell instead of more mods. And pretty quicly your rising weaponsmith will be detrimental to that, especially for some weapons where the chance goes well under 50%. What you can do (if you don't want to waste time save-scumming) is put 1 skill point in weaponsmithing on another of your rangers and use him exclusively for breaking down guns to weapon parts. He will obtain less than your dedicated guy but he will do it with high chances (85%+). All in all this should increase income on a no save-scumming playthrough.

They should actually allow a highly skilled weaponsmith choose to break weapons into scrap parts. It is illogical to have no choice. L0L

Also, what would have been hilarous 9thoguh likely really ahrd or impossible) is if they allowed you to use the WL1 disc you find on a computer and play it in game! That be a mind fuck for sure! :P

Did you return the WL1 disc to the museum guy and check back with him later? It was pretty hilarious when he started going on about how it seems to be some weird kind of recorded history.

After a certain point (the Canyon and beyond, so fairly early), I find that simply selling the weapon yields a lot more money than selling broken parts.

But is that before or after california? I don't remember any weapons in Arizona that had a better exchange rate than parts at the citadel.

It's before California. There are plenty in the Canyon and beyond. I've never gotten more than 12 broken parts from a single weapon; it's usually fewer, and the unbroken-down weapons tend to be worth significantly more than the $120-144 you'd get even if you did get 12 broken parts every single time.

Not that it matters all that much, since armor is useless, you'll be swimming in ammo and medkits by the time you hit the Canyon, you don't really have to outright buy better weapons since they start to drop soon enough in most cases, and you'll likely have many thousands of $ which will mainly be spent on explosives. If you break down all your weapons, you'll end up with a few fewer RPG-7s and grenades, pretty much.

This is pretty ridiculous.
Imagine how it's like when they all walk/run.

Hey, you, why the fuck am I looking for 8 lbs of goddamn cat litter when I have a 10lb bag of zeolite ? :deadhorse:
Why won't the damn rangers just accept that instead? Since the only reason we're looking for cat litter in the first place is because it HAS GODDAMN ZEOLITE IN IT??

it's a shame in my opinion that they went the retardo route with factions. I guess it's part of the Wasteland thing but it'd been a lot cooler if the factions had been a bit more serious and not so zany.

People get pretty fucking zany when they grow up in primitive and violent conditions. Do some reading on General Buck Naked.

Big caveat needed here. Weapons with an exchange value below $100 can be worth quite a bit more in broken parts.

There's no caveat needed. It's implicit in "in the Canyon and beyond," at which point looted and found weapons uniformly resell for $120+ without Bartering (or $132+ with 10 Bartering, what an investment of 40 skill points!).

I've even gotten fucked on $80-$100 weapons by getting 4-5 broken parts from them. On average, and even before the Canyon, it's only truly beneficial to strip a weapon if you need the mods, or want to save on inventory/shop space. Otherwise, you're either as well off or better off just selling them.

Is the Lexidude worth anything?
Worth a lot if you failed with all other companions like me (declined the first offer, nowhere to be found now). I've been running with a free spot since you-know-when and Fisto can soak some damage and his hydraulic arm... oh, boy. Would prefer someone with assault rifle skill though...

watching the skill bar filling up
That's my only issue with the game - what's the point of having a % chance to do something if you can save-scum? Maybe there's should be gating a la VtM:B?

Heh, that's an interesting part of the game - finding all this not-junk junk, hauling it through the whole game and then finding the right NPC. Delivered a lot of such items, but I still have a lot of them in my backpack. Yesterday I gave a faded photo I found in Arizona to a guard in Angel Oracle...

I have 2 bags of that shit bro, and no litter. There are 2 more litter bags in Oracle Angel but I made them mannerites change their ways and Manners is kinda monocle, so I don't want to take those. I didn't bother with his toaster since I lack any of skills it could possibly check. But I guess I'll try and see maybe there's a quest item for it.
I even killed Scorpitron yet I still miss 2 bags. going to google that shit...

I found the final bag in the grate in the bathroom of angel oracle, there's radroaches and steam to get through, the cat litter is in the largest room way at the end.
But yeah, now we come up with use for zeolite, need a bunch of bags of that to get the super mega radsuit, lol.

Otherwise there was a few in rodia I believe, on a farm and in a sewer grate with that gila monitor, and one from the doctor.
two in angel oracle,
and another is at that farm north of santa fe, the one with the oldman selling rockets with the honeybadgers attacking his farm, I think you get the signal if you walk close enough to it.
I know there was one other that I found but I don't remember where.

There are litter bags in almost every 'mini-settlement' between the two radiation walls. I think I found 4 more than I needed by the end.... though I did fix Manners' toaster (so that's +2)

e: I also found 2 extra bags of zeolite (needed 5, had 7)

Yeah, but you can find all of the zeolite (if you get lucky with a safe -- otherwise have to find 2 elsewhere) in one location.

How do you open the house where you fought meson cannon on a badger farm? None of my skills were highlighting it.

Noone knows there how to upgrade zeolites for rad.suits. Because of that you have to communicate with ranger H.Q. and for that you still have to pass a less dangerous rad.wall. Thats where cat litter kicks in.

You have to lure Meson Canons fire to that door.
