What's the best looking and spectacular game out there?

Just don't expect a particularly deep experience.

Aside from Crysis, maybe Metro 2033.

Both have demos out (the legal kind) you can try first.

Try GTA4, maybe with some of the bigger eye-candy mods installed. I find it looks amazing at times, but it's not much of a game.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Witcher 2 looks pretty awesome.

Crysis is still one of the best made-for-PC games with good graphics that aren't fucked by consoles.

Ass Creed 2 and Brotherhood, while console-ports, look really good, but that's more because of the actual design than mere graphical power. I just got a hardon for renaissance Italy.

I always thought Gothic 3 looked pretty awesome, especially with a few tweaks for view distance and such.

I got a new PC about 3 months ago and did the same thing. Downloaded Crysis, all patched and + the amazing natural mod. It looks marvelous!

But is the worst shooter I ever played. Holy shit, that game is bad. I could not play more than 2 hours. When I got the Sniper Rifle and realized it was useless, because the enemies on the turrets and bunkers RESPAWN every 30 seconds, I gave up.

And why make the whole fucking island destructible, but enemies are like stone walls? You can shoot the bastards point-blank range with a shotgun and it won't even blink! Goldeneye had enemies reacting to shot, and it was made almost 15 years ago! Also the AI is HORRIBLE. You can't even ambush a patrol, because the momment you throw a grenade or snipe one of them, the others instantly know where you are and start shooting! And even though, the game is easy as hell, you can just jump on the top of a house and kill everyone! Fuck this!
Short story, do as I did. Install, :bounce: , desinstall and never look back.

That Shogun: Total War game looks good. I would never buy it on account of being bent over the barrel by the Empire game for $60, but it does look pretty.

I felt the same about Empire, but Shogun is much, much better. I honestly recommend it. The multiplayer is actually a lot of fun as well.

Just Cause 2 is pretty spectacular, has pretty good performance, and is pretty pretty. Other games mentioned are arguably better looking, but I'd say JC2 is more spectacular what with grappling hooking and big open world and parachuting and crap.

Thanks. Just want to square my ridiculous purchase with the girlfriend. Guess Twitcher 2 and Crysis will be the way to go.

Metro really looking that good? I thought the animations were quite woody. Might've been the old rig though?

Metro 2033 has waaaaay better art direction than Crysis, but it is no near as pretty in the clean-cut amount of detail.

Still more of a game than the tech demo Crysis.

If you're going to play Crysis, use this mod

http://www.moddb.com/mods/tactical-expansion-mod

Upgrades the gunporn from acceptable to quite good with bullet drop and penetration, lots of new ammo types, a whole bunch of tweaks and some new mounted guns. You have to fuck around in the editor for a few minutes (as per the instructions) but it's well worth it. Challenge is much better than vanilla as well, make sure you play on the hardest difficulty.

I finished the game on a marathon, and I my experience was the opposite of yours, I actually consider it one of the best FPS I have played, I admit I haven't played that many great FPS's. :M

The way I played I only noticed what seemed to be enemies spawning twice, and that's counting Warhead. And if you play the game properly, enemies reacting or not to getting shot isn't a problem. Try warhead, I think they nerfed the koreans so they aren't as resistant as a nanokwasplayer. I even replayed it shortly

And it's uninstall you fucking double nigger, how did you manage to make that mistake?

Crysis 2 has some sort of high resolution pack but it is buggy as fuck here so I raged and had uninstall it, it looks like (surprise surprise) decline, what does the hivemind think?

And how does Saint's Row compare with GTA IV, including the graffix? I'm kind of in the same situation as the OP

Also OP, don't do the same I did and play Crysis without mods or tweaking, the graffix are really inconsistent, so sometimes you'll be praying to unsee some textures or shitty pop in effects
