Yeah it will be worse than Skyrim "depth-wise", and even worse, they could restrict modding in favor of their own mod shop which would be tragic really.
This is probably going to happen. TES 6 is going to sell like hotcakes and other game studios will want to try and crib off of it to ride the wave of success. Skyrim pulled it off, and they could've gone even further beyond if Dark Souls had not come out.Elder Scrolls 6 is going to [...] set the bar for next gen CRPGs.
You obviously didn't know XBOX players who couldn't find Caius Cosades in Morrowind and were desperate for quest compasses, who complained about combat not being actiony enough and wanted to connect every swing and block with their shields pressing a button, expected to join every guild and complete every quest with a single character because "freedom", thought playing a mage with limited magic points was too restrictive, and so on. They were even against allowing some creative gameplay and sequence breaking because according to them that messed up with the narrative: being able to jump over Ghostfence before time was considered "bad design". A few years later Oblivion was made, catering to that same crowd.I hear this argument all the time but I genuinely do not believe that an Elder Scrolls game with a reactive world filled with meaningful choices would ultimately be any less successful than Skyrim. What does a mechanic like spellcrafting and an optional journal so I'm not forced to follow the quest arrow take away from casuals?
Every time this sort of thing is discussed, I think about dreamboy and how much better these games would be with elements that take absolutely fucking nothing away from the casuals they're supposedly dumbing down these games for. It'd still be dumbed down shit but at least you'd have a decent foundation to build upon for modding purposes.
If everything is so silky smooth at Bethesda, why the sale to Microsoft?
Look at their latest creations. Fallout 4 was crap. User rating on metacritic is 5.5. Even media didn't like Fallout 76 with a rating of 52. TESO's latest chapter Graymore has mixed rating on steam.
What did they manage to release lately that was actually good?
Because seven and a half billion dollars is a lot of money. It's the biggest purchase ever in the video game industry. I know we meme about Todd Howard selling Skyrim once again, but if someone offers you $7,500,000,000.- for your company you're gonna take it.If everything is so silky smooth at Bethesda, why the sale to Microsoft?
In before Bethesda Softworks announces impending release of Skyrim II: Hammerfell.I’m 100% confident someone in a Bethesda board meeting has already suggested they drop the Elder Scrolls name entirely and just call the next game Skyrim 2.

As much as we want things like meaningful exploration, C&C and a more coherent world, the console crowd wants to never get lost, to never face consequences for their actions, and a cinematic and more linear experience. And Todd knows their shekels weight more than ours.

I did have one, but the animations are so shit it just looks funny instead of arousing. The only good thing that comes out of Bethesda games are porn mods anyways. I'd be interested to see the % of PC players who have at least one porn/nudity mod installed.
I'm going to wildly assume it's upwards of 50%.

The only good animations in Skyrim were the running ones, and you had to keep the same speed throughout for them to look good so, yes. God, I still remember the "climbing up the dragon and stab him with your mace" ones. Embarrassingly bad.the animations are so shit
So still better than vanilla skyrim animations?
Also, Fallout 4 was not "crap". User ratings on metacritic mean nothing, sales and player hours on it matter more.

They should just bring nudity back. Really, they should have done that with Skyrim since unlike Morrowind and Oblivion they weren't going for a Teen. Post-Cyberpunk 2077 there doesn't seem to be any reason not to do nudity, now there's a clear high profile example of what you can do without getting a AO rating.
