I like how in the GOG description it says:

"Wizardry 6+7 offers two games that brought veritable incline to the RPG genre."

Should have used screenshots from the original W7 though, instead of Gold. Those character portraits are indeed terrible.

Well, I will be doing a complete play-through from 6-8 again (even though I've never taken one party through the whole trilogy )! YEAH!!!! However, old-school as I am, the thought of dragging out the graph paper for VI & VII (if I don't use Gold) is tough to swallow. Auto-mapping is the one modern convenience I DO like!

There's automapping in W7. In fact, it's the best automapping I've ever seen - skillpoint based - that's to my knowledge has never been copied anywhere.

AKA useless throughout 90% of the game, still making you rely on graph paper (not to mention horrible interface of bringing it up, unless Gold). What's "best" about it, again?

"Useless throughout 90% of the game" is way exaggerated. If you had said "I do not have full blown automap features throughout 90% of the game" you'd still be wrong because it doesn't take that long to bring the mapping skill to 100.

What's best? I dunno, I always loved it because you hear so many old-school gamers whining about modern automaps showing anything and everything, including all the secrets, from the get go. Here you can choose the level of detail to your precise liking. You don't even have to bother with automap at all and go purely with p&p. Or you can sprinkle mapping with just a few skillpoints and go with the basics. And conversely if you want to see every single secret switch, you can max it out, but only at the expense of something else. Beautiful. Freedum of choice baby!

Oh and I don't remember no horrible interface but you could be right this time, those games sure could be clunky at times.

I thought it was useful enough; I didn't map that game.
That said, when I played Wiz 6/7 I had a much better memory and didn't need maps. I could navigate the Wizardry 6 mines by muscle memory.

Thanks. I just noticed that heh.

They more than likely did that to possibly limit the size of the main download... or something.

What's the advantages of getting these over the abandonware versions exactly ?
Cluebooks and manuals. At least I remember non finding them on replacementdocs.com back in the times. Otherwise, "setup" (lol) dosbox yourself.

Also Wiz7 > Wiz6 > Wiz8.
And Wiz8 is a great game. Go figure.

And conversely if you want to see every single secret switch,
You still can't see them on the map. But can spot with Scouting skill.

you can max it out, but only at the expense of something else.
Just a six classes to change. :troll:

The only way to play Wizardry 6,7,8 is to play all of them with one party without class changing. Some nice rewards and dialog options if you do this.
Wait, what kind of rewards are there for not class changing? I've never even considered not doing so. It just feels like what you're supposed to do.

I'm reading them now, very entertaining.

You can probably thank Brenda for that

GOG could actually provide Stones of Arnhem bonus materials together with Wizardry 8. It was supposed to be the original Wizardry VIII after all. Ask the people who bought things in the auction to scan and send them.

If they ever do send us anything, we'll accept it :D.
do it, I dare you

That's all I have, most of the sketches were bought by a mysterious totally unnamed non-codexer, so unless you make him suck it down you won't get a lot of scans.
