This. Typical millenial writing. Everything is funny, bubbly, pseudo-witty banter.

"Hey pal! Hey buddy! I brought fish curry for the team! Hahaha, well done buddy!"

This is how coddled SoCal teenagers in 30 year old bodies write like.

On the upside, Alien diversity is better than nigger diversity.

So, anyone playing this? Any thoughts?
I'm watching a LP. I think the more sandboxy minded players will hate this, there's very little freedom or customization. If you don't mind being guided by a tightly curated gameplay tho a lot of the mechanics look interesting.

The writing and general vibe is terrible. It's like a lame Marvel cartoon grafted on the dead XCOM carcass. All that's missing is "funny" one-liners in the middle of the combat ála ME Andromeda.

"I think I made him mad! ....... BECAUSE i SHOT HIM IN THE FACE!"

Played the first couple missions and liking it a lot. Very much enjoy the small scale feel, just cops busting a meth lab terrorist hideout.

I too wish the writing and dialogue was more serious. Buddy cop banter only really works when it can defuse the tension of death around every corner (cf. Homicide: Life on the Street). But the combination of goofy jokesters and no death allowed in gameplay really blunts what should be a much edgier atmosphere. Godmother is my favorite character as she actually acts professional. I don't dislike any one character but the combination into one big carefree family feels wrong.

I like the city map with its various missions to choose. Combat maps so far are small and simple, a refreshing change from roaming around huge maps trying to find stuff to kill. The "breach and fight" system is great of course as it does away with the historical XCOM "pod" system. It also gives you less control over initial positioning, which is a good thing - this combined with the much harsher initiative system makes fights into much more of a puzzle. Everybody better be playing this on Expert or higher.

Looking forward to playing more.

I heard it's moddable?

I wonder how open to modding it is and if we see some interesting spins on this thematic.

It turns out that she is racist towards aliens and xenophobe because she was born on earth.

Lol, she's an alien hybrid born on Earth that hates her alien kin? Issues abound.
Also, her reasoning for joining the diversity squad is that... She felt bored in the prison, lolz.

The writing in this game is really lame. There's not a shred of alien thought patterns, not even any difference in accent. If not for the portraits you'd have no idea that half of the characters are supposed to be non-human.

So, I take the chances of having a plot-twist where you're actually the authoritarian, repressive bad guys is near-zero then, right? You just happen to fight white males terrorists who have good reasons to feel mad at the forced cooperation, but no-one bats an eye at that.

I wonder, if perma-death is not allowed, what happens with Chrysallids?

This would have been great actually. I'm sure the chances of that happening are -10%.

It impregnates your soldiers and they give birth the normal way. Yes, male, female, doesn't matter, they have all the organs needed for that. Did you just assume the gender of your squad?

The agenda with the writing here couldn't be more obvious. Ugh. Feel like this was developed by Firaxis' B-team that consists entirely of strong powerful womyn and male feminist allies.

Gameplay seems alright, anyway. Might consider muting the voices if the next batch of characters aren't less irritating.

Wanna share some examples for laughs, please?

this entire first mission, really, but:

9:16 the dialogue sequence here made me cringe my face off

11:48 the director's dialogue here is just fucking dire. she should be chewing their faces off for fucking up, but instead she goes into this spiel about how we surpassed her expectations and bla bla bla

I pretty much want to shoot every character I've met so far in the face, but oh well

Operation Rancid Wail, I couldn't have named it better myself

Male feminist game designer: "See, she's got this white streak in her hair, which says 'I mean business, patriarchy!' But then also she's holding this coffee cup you see, which shows that she's down to earth and really one of the good guys."

Firaxis Exec: "Fascinating, how soon can we ship the game?"

This is golden.

A large part of the SJW community praised the "alien diversity" inclusion in Chimera Squad and insulted all those who just wanted fighting aliens, using Torque, the snake lady as icon of this diversity.

It turns out that she is racist towards aliens and xenophobe because she was born on earth.

There's two completely opposite ways this image can be interpreted.

It's not THAT obvious, not even Berkeley hatched SoCal femyns aren't that retarded. Yet.

So far I learned there are 3 potential eevul groups that you have to investigate and so far none of them seems too much on the nose altright-shitlord-incel-whitemale equivalent. But the undertones are p. clear.

Commander - black woman. Who could've possibly guessed that? Fuck, it's not even funny. By the way, her voice actress is the same as for Pallegina (and with almost exact same manner), so some nice flashbacks from PoE2 are in order.

But the best thing is of course anti-xeno agenda insert. Imagine pushing it whithin almost 30 y/o franchize about killing aliens. And "reinforce" it by making one of the team member viper (according to what I read so far) as annoying grumpy rasist bitch (honestly, if they'd make her as embodiment of r34 fantasies instead it would've made a much better anti-xeno job)
:deathclaw:
Gameplay looks alright, although I can't identify any new stuff besides breach mode and initiative system change, also seems that they overdid assets reusing while any new art addition looks like dogshit. I wish I could play this but the whole bunch of clowns thing instead of what could at least remotely tried to look like elite division is too much for me.

I have only watched gameplay a bit but I already noticed that this game lacks even basic QoL features that Xcom 2 vanilla came with like mousing over possible movement position showing you if you will be able to flank enemies from that position..

Soooo we are back again at "mods will fix it".

There is already an alpha version of A Better AI mod (form the same A Better XCOM mod series author).

Give it time. In before one of the organizations has its leader use a codename known as "D.R.U.M.P.F." SJWs cannot into subtlety and shitting on Trump is something they do every fucking time, regardless of the medium, setting, age rating, etc.

That was my main fear. Read a review that said exactly this too. I can't stand millenial/zoomer writing that infects everything now. Everything is a joke regardless of setting.

I understand this is a spin-off and nuXcom had its jokes, but they tone was still rather somber and serious.

You cannot really blame them when he is such a low hanging fruit with his retard statements. Like how he didn't know that antibiotics are not used vs viruses or how he wanted doctors to find a way to kill coronavirus inside bodies by somehow projecting UV rays inside patients bodies...
