Sky islands seem to be the new BOTW shrines and work like Mario Galaxy planetoids with each having its own "ecosystem" or even multiple juxtaposed ones.

Feels like they're doubling down on designing it like a mario puzzle game with swords. I doubt most BOTW players ended up caring much about all the gimmicky stuff you could do with its mechanics after the first few hours and experiments but it's the big focus now.

Durability still in, but now you can craft/tack on items to your weapons to create even more grotesque looking weapons when I suspect most players really just wanted to wield weapons that looked like normal weapons and lasted like one, not toys or clown props.

Still nothing to suggest why this could have taken so long to develop as opposed to them just sitting on it for marketing reasons. There was a ton of aliasing/low res in the footage. Maybe the super duper edition with all the upcoming dlc and high res is a launch title for the next machine.

I'm pretty disappointed. I enjoyed the sort of playbox aspects of the first game but I enjoyed the atmosphere and adventure of it all much more, and it's unfortunate that they focused on expanding the playbox instead of adding more interesting things to see or interesting dungeons.

An interesting direction

It seems to me that the islands are essentially the substitute for the dungeons, their challenges being primarly about the usage of powers in their given enviroments

Still nothing to suggest why this could have taken so long to develop
Besides time to think and then iterate on these new gameplay concepts, it's possible that playtesting for every single combination consumed alot of time

BotW was a huge disapointment. Giant terrain demo with fashion based advancement and no dungeons.

I have avoided spoilers, but if there are no dungeons in this game, and it's just dumb fuck mini-puzzles again, I'm out. I'll sell the cart and basically get paid to play it... just like BotW.

...I'm not interested in going to shopping malls in different kingdoms as a means to advance the plot.

...i'm not a 13 year old girl? /shrug

The amount of shimmer in the gameplay they released today is disgusting. Timecoded the worst examples seriously wtf is this. Can Nintendo stop making arguably decent games exclusive to their shit ass hardware?

They will never stop because they believe they have zero competition. Call it arrogance or retardation or whatever.

Fuse is beyond retarded, yet they present this feature like it's some kind of new innovation? I was doing that shit in Garry's mod 15 years ago.

I broke down and watched the video.

As important as dungeons are to me for a traditional Zelda, I am still impressed with these new mechanics.

If they fuck up and leave dungeons out, I could see myself holding on to this cart as a zelda-spinoff.

BotW was a vapid experience, but they have clearly implemented new ideas for some fun videogames, all while alleviating the poor durability system from the last game.

...if they also manage to add full length dungeons with bosses, I'll be blown away. Exciting.

Not at all interested on the doubling down on the crafting bullshit. Don't care about building a vehicle out of twigs, or adapting turbines on logs to make a boat, and I honestly couldn't care less if I can attach a rock to the end of a stick to make it slightly more durable than a regular twig. Pretty much everything looked like a low grade mod for BotW, even the UI is exactly the same.

I'm definitely not the target audience for this thing. Reminded me of that Banjo Kazooie game on the 360.

Didn't watch the vid but do agree. I guess we will see.

Twilight Princess or Majora’s Mask except with the BoTW open world and freedom, that’s what I want. Not putting tech gizmos on trees or making rocksticks.

The fusion feature looks underwhelming, but they also showed the most mundane example (rock on stick). If you can mix more complex things it could be interesting. Like bokoblin leaf on arrow = ranged tornado effect to drop archer from his perch.
