The Brotherhood is pretty nonsensical in this game. Even in FO3 I don't think they technically let you join it. Here you're offered membership after one escort quest where the npc can kill everything on his own. They also talk about how they rejected Elder Lyons' 'charity work' mentality and yet keep mentioning how they want to liberate the Commonwealth and help everyone. I guess the problem is there is no unifying government on the East Coast like the NCR so Bethesda transforms what should be a smaller faction into a massive army that now spans a large portion of the northeast of the US.

There are a lot more issues in regards to internal consistency with this game than there were in Fallout 3. We have robots with essentially self-aware AI that are able to run continuously for two centuries with little-to-no maintenance, but power armor only lasts twenty minutes running on a power source that's used regularly to provide electricity to entire buildings (Makes you wonder how the BoS were ever a real threat to anyone when their armor is so grossly impractical). We have a city that's apparently organized enough to have its own printing press and newspaper, yet its economy still runs on a crude barter system where the main weapon of choice are guns literally made out of pipes. The best technology provided by the greatest minds America has had to offer over the last few games were still clunky, kitschy robots inspired by fifties B movies, and yet now suddenly we have a faction that's capable of making advanced android life and so human that they're virtually indistinguishable from the real thing replicants.

Preston just pisses me off, and he kinda exemplifies Bioware's issue when it comes to the Fallout setting. He's the sole remaining member of a sort of ad-hoc militia force called the Minutemen. Okay, I get the historical reference, and I'm okay with how it links back to the group's aim to be able to go out and help people 'within the minute', that's fine. But that isn't enough for the designers at Bethesda, oh no, they also have to dress him up in a cartoonish 18th century inspired uniform and make his weapon of choice a laser musket. In the place of giving him an actual characterization, they just slap him in a silly costume and hope to god that's enough for you.

A lesson on how low you can drop your standards and turn enormous profit. Or better yet - turn enormous profit because you have dropped your standards.

Spend like 5 minutes trying to find proper shade. That default green is shit.

I find good old white is easy on the eye.

At this point, picking on the nonsensical unique weapons is low hanging fruit, but I might as well post my contribution.

WHAT ON EARTH JUSTIFIED THAT IN THEIR MINDS?!!

My own playthrough just feels painful at this point. The controls are very consolized. No action I take feels intuitive or natural. I did manage to build a giant wall around my main settlement though and erect a main gate and choakpoint filled with mines and targeted by gun turrets. Of course, no on is actually attacking me at this stage of the game, but meh. I'm almost done with this anyway.

So I managed to squeeze around two hours into the game on a pals PS4. Sweet jesus how boring this game is. Empty and meaningless trodding around empty and meaningless locales -- as expected from a Bethesda game, but it's baffling that they are somehow completely incapable of freshening up their schtick. It is quite literally the same game they've been reiterating for the past 10 years. The most fun was putting the dog beside a car, hit it three times with a tire iron and watch it explode... and witness the do survive. It appears the difficulty has been spiked (at least on very hard) but most of it seems to come from HP bloat (and the fact that I just cannot into FPS games with a controller), the first deathclaw ate approximately 300-500 rounds of minigun fire and wasn't even half way dead.

There is nothing to grip the player and motivate him to go forward. You can predict everything ahead. It simply is not fun to play. It could be, on some level, but it is not. Not surprising, not unexpected, but a bit questionable where all the hype is actually coming from. Can it really be just Bethesda brand loyalty because it sure as hell can't be the game itself?

Nothing at Sanctuary, Abernathy Farm or Red Rocket save for a single Bloatfly that got shot out of the sky at thirty paces by a turret. But the Starlight Drive-In...oh boy. Two Raiders, then a Radscorpion and finally a trio of Super Mutants. One of the Super Mutants apparently carried a Fatman because by the time I made it across the lot two turrets, three settlers and one of the mutants had been blow sky high. Also set off the car wreck I left by the gates so then I had to deal with the rads.

Fortunately I was already in my radiation gear because I'd been in the middle of the lots' pool of water, 'scrapping' the toxic waste canisters. First step to plunking down an Industrial Water Purifier (Mk I).

more impressions:
---------------------
BASE DEFENSE
---------------------

Yeah so far no attacks on my places (first few ones).
I think sanctuary and other close ones are not in hot zones so they will not be attacked so much like others.
So far only that gas station seen some action when 3 random bloodfies decided to stroll there.

-------------------------
POWERARMORS
-------------------------

Ok after playing a bit. Power armor stuff is fun. First fuel doesn't last long. Even if you stock on 5-6 Fuel cells you will run out of juice after 2 hours at best. Also it works kind of like a car. When you run you actually see fuel going down faster.
So you use to boost your fighting power when you need it the most not everytime (which would be retarded considering how early you get first one (though in poor shape)).

Secondly until i got second frame i didn't know fun fact. Like i just said, power armors are build on frames. So you can swap any part you want and mix things up. I saw 3rd one to buy (frame alone with no parts) but that was something like 5k caps (a lot). Either way if you have OCD this will be your jam to collect different armor pieces and frames.

-----------------------
BASEBUILDING
-----------------------

Once i soaked up few hours into base building i learned few tricks on how to make things work and what doesn't work. Initial two hours were pain in ass to figure out building stuff (mainly due to no clipping design). Either way i even managed to use non crafted parts to make base like barricades from white fences around sanctuary.

Economy. This is interesting part. It is basic but it gives you something to do. Once you recruit people to your base you can:

- send them off to other place. Good stuff thanks to this you don't need to build radio towers everywhere
- give them work - guards, scrap collectors, farmers, shop workers etc.
- make supply line - this is critical. If you connect two camps when you build stuff resources are shared so you don't need to haul thing to camp which don't have resources. It is twice intersting since it is actual job that NPC does. He goes with bramin and he can die. I already had one of my caravaners dead due to raiders attack on him while he traveled.
- Outfit them as you like. Huge improvement over F3 and FNV. Here you have actually a button than makes them use something instead of them choosing what the hell they want. Guards in leather armors + weapons i made for myself.

Farms you have, water wells you have actually make stuff you can use (picked up in workshop). So once you establish settlement both food and water should be a problem and with proper farming you can make that vegetable stuff that once scrapped gives you 5 addhesive per one (important for crafting)

Once you establish shops you actually make money and you can use those shops yourself. I have 2 shops and every now and then i have 20caps to collect in workshop. This doesn't seem like much but remember there are lot of sites when you can make those settlements and the more shops you have the faster you make that money. I assume that in end game they will generate something like few thousands capps per day or more.

Bladerunner reference, right? That's Bethesda for you. They'd rather shoehorn in an out of place movie reference than build a coherent world.
Yeah that is another thing about bethesda, they dont know how to put little references in their so called games. For example if you remember there was a nice little reference to Blade Runner in F1 (the same pistol Deckard used in the film). Now that was nice and witty. And bethesda are like ohhhhh there is an old film about synthetics so lets create a whole god damn location dedicated to it otherwise our dumb ass retarted fans will not get this reference.

Also i noticed that whole DT/DR thing is kind of not true.
It is true that there is DR as stat but i wouldn't rule out DT completely.

I think it is simply mixed system in which DR is actually DT and partially work as both DR and DT. DT part doesn't come from armor but from weapon itself as probably minus to DR resistance on armor hit.

If you remember it F3 armors didn't have armor value but only DR so everyattack was substracted % wise. Here is armor value which isn't actually DR and there seems to be some more complicated math behind it than in F3.
It isn't FNV amazing DT/DR stuff but it isn't shit like F3.

You can see it clearly when you use shitty armor. If you don't have any armor you go down in few shots if you have shitty armor (let's say 5-8) then it takes a while to go down.

I think there is some geometric cut off going on here or there is value like in FNV where if DT covers all damage then there is value which always will be delivered (i think it was 15% of damage in FNV) even with best armor.

Game also doesn't spare HP you much like in F3 or even FNV. At 3 endurance you start with 90 hp and every lvl you get like 5hp. So after 10 lvl you will be 140hp and after 20 190. Even at lvl 50 you would have 340 hp which isn't a lot considering how much damage you soak up (not counting perks btw)

Also starting power armor has like 100 armor on each part and yet you can get killed by small fire so there is definetely something going on here but think we won't know it unless we see mod kit.

I actually like what I see. Diverse weapon effects like bonus damage during the night or when you're addicted is fun. The placement on legendary enemies seem ridiculous, but the weapons themselves look fun.

Naw, in the same trenchcoat and hat you first met him in.

I wonder how many wouldn't have recognized him without them still on.

And yet when you remove the core from the generator not even a single light goes out.

Well it is Bethesda.. here nothing happens and in sanctuary every light is via oil lamps... Basically lack of thought behind it and they though about it when they made sanctuary location.

The Industrial Water Purifiers are worth setting up as early as you can (Starlight Drive-In for most people), since the settlement dumps excess water into storage and it makes 40 at a time. Come back and find a crap ton of purified water sitting in your workshop ready to sell. And it will just keep filling.

Edit: Wait, I could have set one up in the river at Sanctuary. Oh shit.
